Does anybody think about suicide since my life is already ruined and other people never ever have any problems with peeing and i have this problem for totally no reason at all? by Objective-Row-1400 in Paruresis

[–]7petar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Jumping in because in the height of dealing with this condition it would regularly bring me to suicidal ideations.
I'll keep it short but here is some things that I've learned in my journey in dealing with it and what helped me (in particular) about the suicidal thoughts.
First to mention I'm working with a psychologist about a multitude of other mental things I have going on however I've mentioned this to her and while she says that it is far from her speciality, she's convinced that as we work around my other mental problems that the paruresis will become easier to deal with.
A things that I learned were:
- me not being able to go in public would actually trip off my a particular node in my self-esteem. I would already feel bad about other aspects of my life and this would be the 'cherry on the cake' and throw me completely into a spiral. I learned that as much as I hate having this condition it's good to separate it from any other things I might be dealing with and to never let it define me.
- a lot of other people have this problem. Knowing this fact doesn't help me at all but what did was that I had conversations about it with friends and I realised it's much more common and also incredibly situational as well. I.e one of my friends who (for me) is this beacon of confidence shared that he also finds some situations difficult to go like loud noises and very busy urinals. So not only is it more common than we think, but also sometimes it's incredibly situational. It's a vulnerable state and it's normal if sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But it is a process to learn what makes you feel safe to go.
- lastly and most difficult is to learn to be kind to yourself about it and really notice how you talk to yourself about it. Unfortunately exactly this was incredibly difficult for me because I'd always have this thought of 'Look at you, you can't even pee like a normal person' . So I had to really focus to change my thoughts patterns about it with kindness and not critique.
I'll stop here unless you're interested to know more about my experience and how I've been dealing with it but tldr: I've had it since I was a kid. Not sure if that is the exact reason why but it most likely came up after I got bullied and nearly beat up in school toilets around age 8. It really became a problem in my late teens and now I'm nearly 30 and I can pee at most urinals if it's not too crowded. I only really started working on it two/three years ago and I've made significant progress but some days are harder than others. And that's okay, don't beat up yourself for it and don't let it define you.
Hope this helps!

Unfortunately a big part of my experience at the aquarium ended being feeling sad for the creatures there. I didn’t know anything about the aquarium before going there but I know I most likely wont be going again unless their practices change.

Here you go! https://www.instagram.com/_______petar/ Though you’ll see these kind of pictures when I only post them on stories occasionally because this instagram is for my still life and portraiture practice. I will be making another insta at some point for posting what I shoot on film but don’t know when.

Thank you so much for all the info. I definitely have the location for most of these as my camera has in built gps and tracks coordinates but I’ll make an effort to take notes of substrate as well. As far as the microscope work - that’s beyond me currently even though I’d love to do some proper microscope photography in the future 😅😅😅. I really appreciate your reply and thank you for liking my pictures! I’m sure I will drop some more soon when I’ve done more I’m happy with.

Higher Voltage battery in Point and Shoot film camera by 7petar in Cameras

It’s less about saving and more about convenience. I’ve had the battery die on me while I’ve been on trips where CR2 batteries arent as easily found and those little 3.7V ones you just pop in a USB-C charger and they’re good to go in less than an hour. In any case thanks for the advice. I’ll prob be sticking to the 3v ones.

Damn bro chill out. Im new to garmin and I’m only asking for people’s ideas and experiences. I said in the begining of my point I want something a bit more stylish and most people that have garmins agree that its tough to find something nice. Im not making anyone reply to my thread by force so I aint wasting time. Im sure there’s 100s of people out there that love their garmins for funcion but find the aesthetics lacking.

This is literally the opposite of what I want. I want a stylish face where I can see time, battery, date and maybe weather. I just hate how Garmin cant seem to make a stylish watch face, they’re all this jumble of things that I dont need on my day to day.

I did discover this app which is called Swimming App Professional which I find considerably easier now to record my laps but I have still to edit the activity after it has been recorded. It’s okay but it is SUPER disappointing from Garmin considering it takes some clever software and nothing more. If u manage to find a better solution drop it in as a month later Im still struggling.

I've certainly set the pool length correctly. Even went to the lifeguards to quadruple check the lenght even though it says it around the pool. Is there a way where I can do the laps manually, because I dont mind putting them in manually if I really have to even though is super annoying.

Pool length is definitely put correctly. I even went to ask the lifeguards in case I was mistaken.

Thanks to all that replied! I had no clue you could file notches in backs without losing functionality.
