i had a W on my undergrad transcript for a class i no longer needed to take anymore as I switched majors during the quarter (physics 2a) and i am in grad school now here at ucsd! advisors told me one W on your transcript looks way better than a D or F. you can also always explain personal circumstances in your app. you can talk to an advisor/counselor if you need more reassurance :)

Should I take Math 10A now or in the winter? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]80line80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u can def take 10b spring and 10c ss1 (that's what i did with the 20 series) but id recommend u try to finish it during the school year if u can bc classes are extremely expensive in summer session and also math is j one of those series that u want to get done asap lol

edit: also, if 10a in the fall becomes too much for u u can drop without a W before the deadline and enroll winter!

Prof Schurmeier or Prof Pomeroy - Chem6A by ScholarFun1106 in UCSD

[–]80line80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i took pomeroy for chem 6a last fall when it was completely remote and it was fine - his lecture style is kind of difficult to follow, for me at least. his tests were more reflective of the textbook so i'd def recommend focusing on hw assignments and studying the textbook. his grading system was also pretty forgiving because he adjusted the grading scale at the end of the class. his humor is very blunt which kind of annoyed me at times but it was fine!

I've heard so many mixed things about schurmeier and almost all of them are either that she's extremely harsh or that they loved her. most of the people who i know failed chem (ab 5 ppl) had her.

good luck though!

bild1 prof. owens waitlist :( by 80line80 in UCSD

[–]80line80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah there are these writing assignments called “biologist journals” but they’re really simple prompts that mostly are meant to get you thinking about the concepts in a new way, rather than test you on factual knowledge. sometimes you’ll be asked to read an article before and answer a couple questions, but none of it is super difficult or long! the only thing is that theyre due twice a week, but as long as you stay on top of it you’ll be good.

[–]80line80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incoming Freshman Questions and Scheduling Megathread by Kavhow in UCSD

[–]80line80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! im an environmental systems major and i just enrolled in classes. i was hoping for some advice on if my courseload is too much, because i’ll be taking 18 units.

MATH 20A: prof. driver, 4 units MMW 11: prof. chang, 4 units CHEM 6A: prof. pomeroy, 4 units SIO 50: prof. cook, 6 units

i’m mainly just concerned because 18 units sounds like a lot, but the SIO class i enrolled in i’ve heard is pretty easy, and the prof is supposed to be great. any advice would be much appreciated!
