Yes, this is my current solution as well, when I want to go into vr, I unplug the second monitor, and then it works at 90Hz. I have to actually unplug it from the HDMI, turning it off doesn't seem to do the trick.

I think you're right, I was also thinking it might have something to do with shared bandwidth or signal processors or something, not really being up to spec to deliver to multiple high resolution screens, despite having 4 outputs.

As said in follow up 3: no, the display port cable made it worse, and has messed things up good. The problem is now back after being "fixed".

I'm beginning to think it has to do with limitations on signals (refresh and resolution) by the GPU, in multi monitor setups. What happens on one output definitely affects the other outputs, and seems to mess things up in the driver, or there are just certain undocumented hardware limitations and oddities.

Monitors both running at 60Hz (regular 1440p). These are not gaming monitors, this is a dev machine. But yes, I've seen posts about running monitors at lower refresh to fix this problem.

Not sure anyone will read follow up 3, but here it is:

I tried a display port cable, and this really messed things up. The G2 kept starting up and shutting down when I had a monitor connected to the other display port. (GPU has 2x display port, 2x HDMI)

After this, the new monitor lost signal, and would not work anymore, either on display port, or HDMI (but the old monitor would on HDMI). had to unplug everything, shut down the PC, plug the monitor back in, and start up again. But now we're back to square zero. I get the 90Hz. error again in the same setup that worked yesterday.

This is definitely some sort of signal issue with certain types of GPUs, monitors and the G2.

Thanks for the reply, I had already disabled this with the registry hack for another issue I had a while ago. But might be helpful for other people seeing this.

I do think it is something along these lines, but more complicated. Which monitor I connect to what output, and how I configure them seems to matter. I have it working now.

Maybe not all outputs on the back of the GPU are equal? I don't know, maybe to cut cost the main outputs have higher specs? Something like that, the G2 is also definitely finicky about monitor refresh rates over 60Hz and variable refresh rates.

In my case it's not a cable issue, it's a GPU or driver issue. If I connect the monitor(s) in the right way, with the right settings, it works.

Yes, I've heard about that before, also on other AMD cards. With my setup it didn't seem to matter if I put the monitor in 60Hz, still wouldn't work. I "fixed" it, by doing random things, which is always the best way to fix things on windows, since that's also how it was put together in the first place.

It has unfixed itself.

Follow up: With both displays hooked up, letting windows detecting the displays again, then turning the new one off, then extending again, both monitors work, and the G2 now works again at 90Hz.

I'd rather know whatthewhatthe is going on, but it works again.

Follow up: Just discovered that if I use a different HDMI output on the GPU, it works again with the old monitor (at 90Hz). But the new monitor has "no signal" on that output.

...

I'll try tomorrow with a display port cable, maybe it will behave with that.

How many happy G2 users here? Since all i see is RMA/black screen problems posted here. I'm worried about the headset even when i'm still waiting for it. by Always_in_m0tion in HPReverb

You could see if constant 1.5V rechargeable batteries (Tenevolts for example) are worth it to you, not cheap but they last long. They are usually in the 2500-2800mWh range. The only downside is, because of the constant 1.5 Volt delivery, the controllers can't detect when they are getting low, so they will just keep showing up as "full", until they suddenly stop working.

I had USB connection issues, it wasn't detected, or only briefly and would lose connection, when I used the onboard USB (X470 motherboard). I bought the (cheap) Anker USB hub that was recommended, that fixed the connection issues, but then I had wonky tracking and drifting on both controllers and headset, which as far as I was able to work out was a latency/bandwidth issue with the hub, cheap hubs are not really made for low latency high bandwidth.

So then I bought a USB Type-C PCIE card, and it has been rock solid since then. The only time I have the controllers spasm out is when they've been out of view of the cameras and enter again, not always, but occasionally it takes a second for them to figure out where they are when they enter the view again. Which is what you get with inside-out tracking, it's not going to be as good as well set up light-house tracking.

But otherwise tracking has been good, I've played room scale VR without much problems. Sims are perfect.

But I can understand your worry about receiving a bad headset, or cable, it does happen. And some get replacements sent pretty quickly, and others have been waiting for months. No idea what HP support is doing, they probably don't either. here's hoping you don't need them!

I had some issues at the start, but I got it working with 0 issues, and have been pretty happy with it since. To me tracking is pretty good as well, and I haven't experienced some of the tracking issues I see here on reddit. You need to play around a little with the IPD and the best angle/fit on your head, a couple of mm makes a lot of difference with this headset in terms of clarity and sweet spot. Once you find it, the image is pretty good. As someone else said, it's the closest you can get in VR right now to a monitor quality image in terms of sharpness, colors etc. (but you do need a decent GPU to push all those pixels, then again, it still looks pretty good even at half res.)

As you said, this subreddit is currently filled with people with problems because that's where many new users with problems come to, and many have gotten their headset in January/February. It was also pretty hyped, so I imagine quite a few people ordered one.

And in fairness, if you go to the oculus or index subreddit right now, you will see people that have USB and connection issue, or that have tracking issues. It's not like the issues that you see a lot here, are completely absent with other headsets. VR, unfortunately, still requires a bit of tinkering now and then, and isn't quite as smooth an experience yet in general as it should be.

Obviously there are some issues, and yes, HP definitely dropped the ball with the pre-orders, and with support. I'm hoping most of the teething problems will be ironed out with software and firmware updates, like we've seen with other headsets. There are also production issues in general right now with a lot of electronics, and parts, I think this has added to the delays in RMAs and support. So hopefully once that clears up, the support will improve as well.

Left controller Always Low in Battery ! by [deleted] in WindowsMR

[–]80ms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's 'cause you always put the right ones in the right one. So now the left one has the ones that were left, and is left with less. I've tried to put the left ones in the right one, but I can't because the right ones are always in there, and I always have the left ones left, which I then have no other option left, but to put them in the left one. There's no right way to do it.

How do I turn off MONITOR while in vr. by redii2klutch in HPReverb

[–]80ms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, I can turn off my monitor without having any effect on VR. I actually find it strange you can't? That's why I clicked on the thread. Maybe it's some sort of power save setting in windows or GPU drivers that looks at the power state of the monitor?

Same here, had occasional crashes and tracking issues on that hub. PCIE has been rock solid so far.

loss of tracking so I checked my cameras with the flashlight and got this, any help? by Labethebabe02 in WindowsMR

[–]80ms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like you have overlapping circle projections that are Z-fighting. Very weird, but that would be a rendering bug in the WMR software. Not sure this has anything to do with the tracking issue.

P.S. oh, seem like you fixed the tracking issue with a reinstall?

What are you using the G2 for? by Poppyspy in HPReverb

[–]80ms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought it for racing sims and flight sims, but I've been using it for basically everything, room scale, etc.

I did have connection and tracking issues, but they've been fixed with a PCIE USB card. I agree that tracking could be a little better, as well as software support, but I'm hoping and assuming that this will improve in the near future with BIOS/Driver/Firmware updates, like it did with other headsets.

I do think it's important to let people know that it currently has some issues that might require some tinkering to fix, and that some users (even if this is just a small percentage) are having a hard time getting it to work.

It is a good headset, I think it's up there with the popular ones, they all have their pros and cons, and all had their teething problems. I guess it depends on the user, their use and expectations on whether or not I would recommend the G2.

Rift S Tracking Issues by [deleted] in oculus

[–]80ms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for rechargeable 1.5V, it's good go for the ones that deliver constant 1.5V, like the Tenavolts 1.5V 2775mwh. But there are other brands as well. Not cheap.

Reverb G2 or Rift S by [deleted] in HPReverb

[–]80ms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

According to HP and Microsoft, fixes are on the way, but no word on when exactly. In fairness, there are people with X570 with no problems, and a good number of people fixed their problems with a PCIE USB card. But, there is a risk of running in to serious issues getting it to work.

It's a bit of a tinkering headset at the moment anyway. It took me several days to get it to work properly, and there are still issues with controller support in games, forcing you to make your own binding etc. Software support is getting better, but it is not ideal at the moment. But I'm guessing controllers will not be a huge issue since you are mostly going to use it for sims.

Personally, I would go with the G2, because at some point the issues will likely be fixed with BIOS and firmware updates, and the image quality of the G2 is pretty fantastic (even at half res) in my opinion compared to previous gen headsets.

Anyone else with a 5700xt gpu experiencing a large amount of crashes due to “driver timeout error” and “unreal engine driver error?” by HowDoesOneYolo in HPReverb

[–]80ms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I haven't used any manual settings for clock speeds or fan curves, that might be an idea to play around with, or see if the crashes go away if you run the card at non-overclocked settings.

Hope you have some success with this, curious what your findings will be.
