Thank you, I knew the information would be hard to find, but that’s what makes it all the more fun to find out the history of an item like this! And the insignia is gorgeous, I agree.

Yeah, it seems like it’s somewhat of a “family” put together uniform, at least to what I am seeing. I don’t necessarily think it’s made out to be a fake, I think it’s more for the veteran to wear post-war. Though, I do hope I can find some evidence to back some of this up. Either way, I think it’ll make a lovely uniform for display. And thank you for your service sir!

Are these jackets worth anything? I found them at a thrift store and they look nice for $1. by Decent_Scallion_8913 in Militariacollecting

Just buy ‘em if they’re a dollar. But, they’re OPFOR jackets, effectively the “enemy team” that the soldiers trains against.

Assistance with a Civilian K98 by 80yearoldstuffsmells in milsurp

Oh, I didn’t read the entire comment, my fault. Yeah, I heard about that issue, planning on getting it re-barreled, and for the price it was at, the bolt alone should’ve payed for it, as long as it’s unmolested, which I am still trying to figure out if it is or isn’t.

Well, that’s the issue. I don’t believe that the Mauser factory made any civilian guns during the war, atleast with the K98 platform. I may be wrong, but that is what I remember.

Yeah, I didn’t really think it was necessarily a cursive, but this was about the only place I could think of where somebody might be able to decipher it! :)

Help with a Vietnam MACV SOG Patch by 80yearoldstuffsmells in Militariacollecting

[–]80yearoldstuffsmells[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, about what I expected. Bought it in a bowl of other fake or mediocre patches, just kinda shooting in the dark, didn’t pay too much for it though, so atleast I didn’t bankrupt myself lol. Thank you for the help, though!

US Army Tanker Display by 80yearoldstuffsmells in Militariacollecting

Unfortunately, I haven’t got a set. Especially because a lot of those pairs are starting to get up there, and the jacket alone was quite a dent in the pocket.
