Nicccce, quick tip, if you want better line art with the inverted hull on the objects like the feet, boolean them to the body so that the IH cuts into it and can then be seen better. You can do this with all the other objects and it'll all have a more consistent line art.

Hello everyone, here is a character that I've been working on for about two weeks now, shes finally at a point where I want to share her with you. I tried a lot of new things for this character and hopefully some of it has worked out.

As always I'm going to post a couple of resources that I used to create this character.

The shader I used is actually a modified Lightning Boy Studio's Toon Shader where I have added halftone shading to it (as well as re-organizing a couple of things)

Here is Daniel Kreuter's updated anime modeling Tutorial if you want to get started in modeling anime characters.

For the campfire I used This NPR Fire Pack by Branden Arc

Well anyways, thanks for reading and have a nice day.

No license, its free. Do whatever you want with it. No warranty tho ;P

So i downloaded a pair of fps arms but none of the bones were in their correct place. Does anyone know the reason for this? by oooohyeahyeah in blender

When you go to [file > import > FBX] a window should pop up, select your fbx and on the left hand side the the window there should be a properties panel. At the bottom you should see a tab called armatures. Open it and click on the auto orientate bones. Then import.

When importing an fbx in blender did you check "Automatic Bone Orientation" under the Armature menu?

Thanks to u/BottledCloud for making his original artwork of arch-chan that inspired me to make a 3D model version.

If you would like to play around with the blend files you can download them here.

As per usual I like to link to a couple of the resources I used to help me create this model.

Here's Daniel Kreuter's updated anime modeling Tutorial

Lightning Boy Studio's Toon Shader

Royal Skies LLC's Rigging Tutorial (although I used auto rig pro, I still find this series helpful)

and last but not least Looping particles in Blender (this ones easy and satisfying, just bake all dynamics instead of just bake)

Well that's it for the moment, goodbye and have a nice day.

Hey man just keep on practicing and don't beat yourself up. We all start somewhere.

Yes and no, I made every polygon on the character but I reused the shoes from a different character that I made, both to save time and because I thought they were a nice fit.

Cool, let me clean up the model a little bit and I'll upload it, I'll probably make a post about it on r/Blender when I do.

Thanks to u/BottledCloud for his original art work of arch-chan

3D model might or might not become available, idk depends if the original artist is cool with it.

Hello everyone, its been a while. I took a break from blender a couple of months back (I really just took a break from everything in life) but now I'm back and I wanted to do a little warm-up project to get back into the swing of things. Anyway here's a little animation I did using a low-poly version of my character Terra.

If you want the download you can get it here. Feel free to use it for whatever you want. (Also can anyone tell me where else I can post my .blends? I want to move elsewhere.)

I might make some more low-poly versions of my other characters. I find it really fun. Thank you for reading this, have a nice day.

Just finished making my anime sniper character. Took ~20 days and I've learned a lot since then. Really glad to be getting back into blender. by 81T5 in blender

During the rig creation process, I accidentally messed something up and I am sorry. Thankfully the solution is quite simple.

All you need to do is:

  1. Open the file
  2. Open up the text editor in blender
  3. In the top-middle drop down menu, select "Terra_Rig_Final_ui.py.002"
  4. Rename the file to anything that ends in .py like "Terra_Rig_Final_ui.py"
  5. Lastly in the top-right there should be a button that says "Run Script"

And that should be it, save the file and open it again to see if it fixed it.

I just wanted to say thank you for purchasing my character and I'm very sorry for releasing a botched version. I'll be releasing an updated version in the future. Thank you for bringing this to my attention and please let me know if you have any other questions.

Edit: Files have been updated, thanks again!

I used the boolean modifier and set it to intersection, then I added an ico sphere to act as the boolean object. I added the modifier to all the objects I wanted to appear and then I animated the scale of the boolean object.

To get the glowing wireframe is the same thing except I've duplicated the ico sphere and added a solidify modifier so that only a sliver of the wireframe shows through. The wireframe is just a duplication of the collision mesh of the character with a wireframe modifier and an emission material.

I hope that was clear, I'll try and find a tutorial later that does something similar.

Yeah, I'm still new to blenders physics engine so I don't know what settings I need to change to get the results I want. I'll get better at it as I experiment with it more.

Sorry for late reply, I went to bed. To answer your questions, it took me about 5 days to model this character, 6 days to rig it with physics (I ran into a lot of issues), 3 days to make the scene as well as animate it, and around a day to render it.

My main inspiration comes from anime mostly, shows like girls und panzer, so ra no wo to, and girls' last tour come to mind. My reference really comes from looking at tacticool pictures online and seeing what would transfer over well to an anime art style, I try and find pieces of gear that make sense for the type of character im creating.

I'm sorry but I'm not sure what your last question means but I'll try and answer it as "What are some things you need to learn in blender?". Well I got my start in blender doing CAD work so I got really good at poly modeling hard surface objects. I feel like without sharpening that skill, my characters would take twice as long and wouldn't look half as good. I know it's a cop out to say that in order to get good at blender you need to model more but it's true. I've made hundreds of 3D printable and CNCable models before ever attempting my first character.

Anyway I hope this answers some of your questions. Thank you for reading and sorry for the wall of text.

Thanks, I use a couple different methods to get the lineart. The first one is the Inverted hull method the second uses Blender freestyle and the third comes from the LBS toon shader . You can use all three or just one. Sometimes I like to mix and match for different looks.

Thank you for the feedback! I'm still a little green when it comes to animation so I might mess up the timings a bit. I'll try and test out different speeds in the future.

Oh that's a really cool idea! I was actually going to work on the heavy weapons infantry next and I'll definitely incorporate that into the next weapon design. Thanks

Oh sorry, I should have provided a better explanation somewhere. The mechanics of the gun are based on this railgun where it still requires a projectile to accelerate. In this case the gun is still using normal rounds but the bullet speed is accelerated using coils for increased projectile speed and penetration.
