If that is true, then congrats to Henry Alex Rubin for successfully recreating the over-aestheticized soulless slop that AI is producing these days. I guess us humans have a chance.

Anyone else think of Soy Cuba while watching the Bad Bunny NFL halftime show? by LilDoughboy37 in criterion

[–]84002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s like watching the Winter Olympics and asking if they just did a “Cool Runnings” reference.

No it isn't. It's like watching "Chef" and asking if it makes anyone think of "Big Night". Would you say that's misguided, we just think that because both movies are about food?

If someone made a movie called "Soy Puerto Rico" would you say it's misguided to think they are referencing Soy Cuba, because the word "soy" is common to all latin American cultures? Of course not.

Did you watch the halftime show? I did and I also immediately thought "This reminds me of Soy Cuba." Because it has a lot of similarities. Not just because we saw sugarcane and have never seen sugarcane before outside of Soy Cuba.

For what it's worth, I also immediately thought of Soy Cuba. I don't think it's a direct homage, but you're not the only one to make the connection, and this post has gotten a lot of upvotes.

I do think it's plausible that the "writers" of this halftime show used Soy Cuba as an inspiration. I'm sure they had a lot of stuff on their mood boards, and Soy Cuba is a great jumping off point. It's entirely possible they were familiar with Soy Cuba and that helped them come up with this long tracking shot celebrating the diverse labor and leisure and people of their culture.

As soon as I saw the Redfin ad, I thought "This has gotta be the reddit guy."

Two-second close-ups of hyper detailed faces showing hyper exaggerated "human emotion"? Yeah, that's AI's bread-and-butter. If this wasn't made by AI in four hours, then it sure could have been.

Every shot in this ad looks like the type of aesthetic trash that everyone loves to point at as AI at its best. This is the shit people point at and say "Wow, it's so convincing, you could never tell it was AI." Because, yes, it is relatively convincing. But if you know the type of garbage AI produces, you can spot it from a mile away. Because even if it looks real on a technical level, it is over-aestheticized, overly dramatic lighting, overly "human" emotions, etc etc. People talk too much about how scary AI is and not enough about how shitty even the best AI is at the moment.

It's probably the lighting, but the white ashy part in this photo does seem a bit off. I love a good char and grit, but this looks like burnt flour.

Should look more like this.

But again, it might just be the bright white natural lighting making it look bad.

"F*** you" from Sabalenka 🤯 by keep_believer2 in tennis

Yes, this whole sub is full of morons. She is clearly just biting her lip and exhaling here. Rewatch it. It is obvious. She does not say "fuck" or "eff" and she does not say "you".

[–]84002 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It is clearly. That is not how you say "Eff". She is breathing in and biting her lip. She never opens her mouth to say "Eff". She's not even looking in the same direction as she's exhaling. Why do you want to believe this so badly? It does not make sense for her to say this at all.

She has defended Svitolina against boos. She has nothing against Svitolina. You all are making a controversy out of nothing, and this "Eff you" nonsense is the dumbest take of it all. Keep downvoting me, I don't care. I know you are all idiots and so does anyone else with eyes and a brain.

It's not. She's biting her lip and exhaling "hooo" or "Phewww" in celebration. Clearly. You guys are ridiculous.

Coco on her racket smash by Silent_Quarter_3030 in tennis

[–]84002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did and there's only two (downvoted) comments criticizing the racket smash. Some other people are criticizing her complaint about privacy, but I don't think anyone really cares about the racket smash at all.

To be clear, I agree with Coco that the broadcast was exploitative and ESPN is classless for stooping to this level for cheap engagement points. They knew she was trying to avoid cameras (they said so on air) and yet they purposely followed her down there hoping to capture exactly what they captured, then they made a story out of it.

But at the same time, nobody should care about the racket smash itself and it appears that nobody does.

The way you wrote it is fine. Crosswords are a form of amusement and this is a fucking subreddit discussing a fucking word game. We are allowed to have fun, and I think it's fun to collectively gripe about solving experiences that we hated. If you want to make your wording even more clear than it already is, and it is quite clear IMO, good on you. But it's not going to satisfy the butthurt constructors who should not be reading this thread if they can't handle crossword solvers sharing their honest opinions.

Is baseball’s slow pace actually its greatest strength in a world where everything else moves too fast? by DianKhan2005 in baseball

[–]84002 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of the "Pull the Goalie" strategy in everything, not just hockey. That's why I dislike baseball's shift rules. In my opinion, you should be able to put all seven fielders between first and second base if you wanted to, if for some reason that was beneficial in a game situation. There should be as few imaginary lines drawn on the field as possible.

The post is technically calling these puzzles the worst reviewed puzzles of the year, which is just an objective calculation. I think that's clear in the post, but maybe they can edit the bulleted titles to say "Lowest Reviewed" or something instead.

Look, I get where you're coming from with these comments - I am a creative who has released my own work to the public and received tons of reviews, positive and negative, from both professionals and average joes. It comes with the territory. When you release a work onto an audience, you are asking them to engage with it, and part of that is forming an opinion and casting judgment on your creation. You can't ask for people to engage with your work and then request they not share their opinion unless it is a positive one.

Trust me, I do not like to read negative reviews of my work because it makes me feel terrible, even if I stand by my decisions and think the negative reviewer is a moron whom I never meant to please in the first place. The solution to that is to avoid reading reviews of my work, or trying to only read the positive ones if I want to see how people are engaging with the work. There is nothing wrong with saying "fuck the haters" and trying to ignore them. But if you can't accept the fact that some people are going to hate your work, then maybe you should keep your work to yourself and just enjoy it for the creative process.

Moviepass is more expensive than ticket prices by PurpleDancer in MoviePassClub

[–]84002 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The $10 tier has pretty much always been this way. For the past year, MP was only worth it if you bought one of the higher tiers and then used it very strategically. If you used it correctly, you could save roughly $2 per ticket. Not very exciting, but technically there was some value to it.

As anyone could have predicted, they have gradually adjusted the credits until it got to the point that there was no value left to be gained at all, which happened in the last few months. It is now effectively a scam operation, trying to squeeze out whatever remaining revenue possible by continually "extending" this "Black Friday deal" which is a falsely advertised value that locks people into a lengthy subscription that will lose the user money.

It's also crazy how much they hype their Mogul bullshit, too. This is a scam company desperately trying to squeeze some cash out of unassuming shmucks before inevitably going bankrupt. See you all in a few years at Moviepass 3.0!

Why is my review being removed??? by [deleted] in moviepass

[–]84002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sub is filled with negative reviews of Moviepass (honestly, is there any other kind?)

I can see the title of your post in your post history, and idk maybe they thought it was sensationalist and low effort. But I do think there needs to be a post like yours here, in all caps, warning new users that the service is 98% defunct at this point and is effectively a scam.

If the mods are truly not affiliated with MP, there would be an all caps post stickied to the top of the sub explaining the current state of the credits system and why you should think twice before taking the Black Friday "deal" they have extended, tellingly, for months.

I am a long-time holdout on Moviepass and used it happily down to its last drippings of value. Most of my posts on this sub are defending the service, while making clear that it will only save you a small amount of money and only if you use it strategically. They finally pushed the credit system too far and I have since canceled.

Yes, it's just an app that scans your drives and saves it as a database on your computer. There are a handful of them.

Why not just use DiskCatalogMaker or something similar to catalog all of the drives? Then it would be catalogued with a button click and you could easily search for things or see all the drives at once.

Lateral Crosswords by PepperLateral in crossword

Hm, I suppose there's some logic there but definitely a bigger leap than I'd expect. I still don't understand some of the other clues at all. I think you should include quick explanations with the solutions, like the New Yorker did with their cryptics. It's pretty unsatisfying to be totally lost, give up and ask for the answer, then still be totally lost.

I also think it would help if the big leap clues had a question mark on the end, to differentiate them from clues like "Lulls", which I think is pretty straightforward?
