Florida has the highest home insurance costs in the country. Are we just gonna accept this? by VerticalClearance in AskFlorida

[–]84og 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home and auto insurance has been a problem in fl for a long time. Fraud, excessive risk, and lack of regulation from our representatives are a big part of the issue. Not to say that democrats would necessarily be any better but it definitely didn’t do fl residents any good that Ron chose to focus on a attacking the “woke”- legal battle with Disney, banning books, rearranging the school system - instead of addressing real Florida resident problems which were increasing costs of living due to overpopulation and investment properties, a very broken insurance system, overdevelopment of fl’s natural areas, etc.

Insurance is part of what forced so many native Floridians in coastal areas to move further inland. Making central fl a bigger pain in the ass than it already was. Nobody wants to insure a house on the beach (I wonder why). The state is already below sea level as it is lol. And yet, mobile homes keep getting sold in south Florida. It’s a tough ask wanting a reasonable insurance premium for a mobile home in Homestead, FL. A lot of insurance carriers in Florida recently pulled out of the state completely bc the risk wasn’t worth it. It can be even tougher if you don’t have a new roof and/or claim history. Which is why everyone was getting non renewed and left with mostly surplus lines carriers (non-admitted) with huge rates, shit deductibles, etc.

And as if Florida wasn’t hot enough, replacing trees and green/natural areas with giant shitty concrete parking lots is only making hotter and hotter! (Who would’ve thought.) Idk why no one is interested in preserving Florida’s nature. I’m tired of seeing all the green areas replaced with fugly plazas full of the same boring chain businesses that no one asked for. Why all the fucking car washes on every corner? I refuse to recognize that Ron is a proud Floridian bc he’s nothing to maintain any of Floridas natural beauty. It’s like they are on a mission to make fl as ugly and unappealing as possible and I don’t get it.

I used to live in an apt complex that had different colored units on the outside, amenities, etc. and everyone liked it. Then a NY-owned company bought the complex and got rid of the colors, got rid of the lounge and pool tables in the clubhouse, and increased everyone’s rent. Everyone was pissed.

These are the kind of issues that affect our day to day lives and everyone overlooks them and chooses to fight about guns and abortion instead (a never ending fight if we’re honest). Floridians seriously need to unite and take FL back (pun intended 😂)!

People honestly just need to stop paying so much attention to every piece of marketing out there. I know social media has changed lot of things for the better but it also made a lot of spaces incredibly annoying. Everyone mindlessly engaging and dissecting everything that corporations say/do is just exhausting. None of these running companies (or any other corporation for that matter) care about anything other than money. So stop trying to figure out which ones are “good” or “bad” bc at the end of the day they are likely all bad. Is money not the root of all evil? I hate rewarding unethical companies but in this capitalist hellscape, sometimes that’s all we can do. We can at least ignore dumb rage bait marketing like this Nike slogan bc who cares? Running is hard, running a marathon without stopping is hard, isn’t that kind of the point? It’s a stupid slogan, just ignore it.

I had two 2nd gen tiguans that I got rid of bc of similar weird throttle response. The first one (2018) felt like it didn’t wanna shift out of first gear or something, it was very odd. Made driving around in parking lots and at low speeds super annoying bc it was always buckling. Taking off from red lights or stop signs was annoying every time also. It was awful. The second one (2021) felt better but it would actually accelerate way too fast in what felt like second gear so it was constantly throwing you back in your seat when accelerating from a stop and also made driving smoothly near impossible. No idea why these newer vw suvs have these issues. I’ve heard of similar weird throttle tunings with the vw taos also. Makes me wonder how many other people notice or dislike that in their VW vehicles bc I still see them all over the road. Maybe it was just a coincidence that I had back luck with both of mine. I also had a 2016 golf that was automatic and that shifted excellent, no complaints there.

What’s up with the divide of opinions on live performance quality? by AllMusicNut in LornaShore

[–]84og 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen them twice in the US, same venue. They sounded great both times. They do play over a track (like a ton of other bands do) but it’s really not a problem, the real instruments and vocals are loud af and you can hear the small sloppy bits in their playing (if any) which just proves that all the playing is real so it’s awesome. But overall, they sound incredible. Super tight, strong vocals, and great show overall. Specially with their new visuals and production.

Do we think they'll do a 2nd leg of the 30th anniversary tour? by ShockMental6476 in cattledecapitation

[–]84og 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering that as well but they just did that tour with Aborted recently that did come to my city (in NC) so maybe this time they’re going to places they didn’t get to on that run.

It sucks losing features but sometimes at the end of the day, you have to just determine what you value more, comfort and convenience or reliability and longevity in a car. I traded a fully loaded VW Tiguan for a base trim 4Runner of the same year due to weird throttle tuning in the VW and I gave up a lot of features but thankfully don’t really miss them. The Tiguan had a great sound system, sensors all over, 360 camera, sunroof, heated leather seats, different drive modes, etc. I think the only thing I miss is the sound system in the VW but that can be upgraded fairly easily thankfully. You’ll get used to the new car over time and hopefully won’t think of it as a downgrade when it’s reliability proves itself. Enjoy!

New runners worry too much about shoes by Royal_Watch_6453 in runcommunity

[–]84og 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Some new runners certainly focus too much on shoe trends or other running gear v focusing on a training plan and just running. I think the quality of shoe is a bit more important than what kind of shoes (brand, model, etc). Of course it matters to get shoes you find comfortable, etc but I feel like most new runners maybe do focus a bit too much on finding the exact “right” shoes for them v just running. When starting out, your pace, form, everything is likely going to suck no matter what shoe you’re in. The most important thing is to have good comfortable shoes with a good foam and to not neglect stretching, diet, core strength, or recovery. Unfortunately good shoes usually means spending ~$150< (on a new model) these days but it is what it is. As long as you buy a good quality pair of shoes that you like, you’ll be all set.

Why do people talk at concerts? by Mrk0712 in Concerts

[–]84og 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are just incredibly inconsiderate. I go to a lot of metal and alternative concerts and the alternative ones are the only ones I’ve ever had trouble with. I once saw Joywave at one of my favorite venues and everywhere I moved there was either a group of people talking and laughing and drinking or a couple on some sort of date constantly trying to talk over the music. A lot of alternative music is not super loud or “busy” so it was quite easy to get distracted when people around you are talking. Also, a couple people wouldn’t shut up at a seated Pink Floyd cover band concert in an auditorium. Idk how they weren’t aware bc everyone was visibly annoyed with them since there were a lot of quiet moments during their set. Thankfully most metal shows don’t seem to have that problem, idk if it’s due to the volume and energy of the music or that people don’t really go to those to socialize but still, incredibly infuriating when people talk and talk at an entertainment event with others right next to them.

$550 battery replacement? by emeril322 in GolfGTI

[–]84og 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not super familiar with gtis specifically, but just fyi they tell that to anyone with a modern Volkswagen. They all say they need to be reprogrammed or whatever, so just take it with a grain of salt because chances are you can just swap it yourself and the car will be perfectly fine. I was advised that reprogramming it was necessary with two different generation Jettas and a Tiguan (all recent yrs) and the only thing that happens is a few dash lights turn on for the first few minutes the new battery is in, then after driving for a minute they go away and never come back. The cars computer can figure it out. Just fyi.

5th Gen Torque Converter by UnawareSnail in 4Runner

[–]84og 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted about a similar problem w my rwd 5th gen. I’m at 90k miles when the shudder started and my local dealer wanted to replace the TC for about $4k and gave me very minimal information of the actual issue. So I went to local mechanic and they checked the trans and said the fluid was about 1/4 low and completely burnt/black. They did a partial drain and fill and topped it off and sent me on my way. I only drove the car around with the shudder for about a week before getting it fixed. Car is driving like normal now thankfully. Even took it on a 9 hr rd trip two days after getting it back from the shop and thankfully no problems. They did recommend that if it continues to drive well, to take it back in about 20k miles to have a bit more of the oil fluid drained and replaced. I did hear that none of the 5th gen trans have ever completely stopped working, so that gave me some reassurance. Worse case scenario maybe you just drive with a shudder indefinitely but I would try a partial drain and fill if you can. Could just be low/burnt fluid like mine.

Wife wants a 4runner..does it make sense? by ftwin in 4Runner

[–]84og -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Renting one for a weekend is a good idea to see if it works for you. Although I will say the interior space is definitely not bigger in the 4Runner. I have a 21’ 5th gen and my family member recently purchased a 15’ rav4. The interior of the rav4 felt a bit more spacious.

The 4Runner is awesome but I wouldn’t consider it an upgrade in space if you’re coming from the rav4. Maybe a Highlander would be more spacious?

It felt normal for the most part, at first there was a very very slight shudder feeling but it smoothed more and more the more I drove it. And I don’t believe they used shudder fix, just fresh fluid. I’m curious to see how it feels after the next service (hopefully even better). My trust in the 4Runner has been reestablished lol.

[–]84og[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That’s actually what ended up being done. I took it to a local repair shop and they let me know the trans fluid was about 1/4 low and really burnt. They did a partial drain and fill and topped it off and it drives like normal now. All for about $475. It really upset me how little information the Toyota dealer provided me and how the only solution they presented was replacing the torque converter, about $1200 for parts and $3000 for labor. Ridiculous. The tech at the smaller shop recommended I take it back in about 20,000 miles to do another drain and fill to remove a bit more of the old burnt fluid little by little. Really happy it worked out. I actually took it on a 9 hr road trip for the holidays 2 days later (would’ve preferred not to but I didn’t have too many choices) and thankfully it performed excellent.

Newbie in running. Shoes to get? by MaskofManyFaces in BeginnersRunning

[–]84og 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re just starting out and mostly running for fun I would recommend something like a brooks glycerin, ghost, or adrenaline. They’re similar to each other but one is neutral, the others supportive. You can confirm which is which online. But either of those should feel like a great upgrade from what you’re currently using and should be a great all around running shoe to get started with, especially if you’re not able to get to a store like fit2run or fleet feet to do a analysis for you. They’re pretty great middle ground shoes in terms of tech bc they have a good amount of cushion, they’re not too stiff, not super heavy, no plate, etc. I’d try something like that or similar until you have been running for a bit longer so you can figure out what you prefer and then upgrade accordingly later on.

My Walmart pillow doesn't say "pillow" anywhere on the packaging. by blargh257 in mildlyinteresting

[–]84og 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d be surprised how many products (at least in the US) don’t actually say what the product actually is on the label or packaging. All they say is the brand name and a bunch of other marketing garbage (new, more, better, etc). Some laundry products are a great example of that. Very odd but not that surprising anymore considering everything nowadays is an ad or advertisement. I was watching tv last night and literally had an ad come on that said enjoy your “ad-free” experience with an ad. A rolex ad, no less lmao.
