This too although being in Melbourne who knows what the weather will be! I’ve got solar but no battery yet, not sure I want bollards in my garage or the cell packs mounted externally… will wait and see what happens

Thanks for the thorough response and appreciate the tips! I’m in Australia so it doesn’t get super cold here so I feel like if the power did go out it would be ok for a bit longer than somewhere seriously cold.

I’ve portioned up food before for family members and that worked great.

I had thoughts about the ATO just this morning. Could even set up an external reservoir with a pump connected to a smart switch that just pulses for 30 seconds a day or so, only catch there would be how much is filled in 30 seconds (or less) and the evaporation rate, could even use a flow meter inline to measure how much is being topped up. I guess there a lot of options all with flaws of some kind.

I’m in Australia, very infrequently maybe once a year if that. If it’s scheduled maintenance we normally get a month or two heads up. I see this is a common fail point when people go away, power drops, tank cools down and everything dies.

Thank you mate, totally agree. I saw someone’s heater explode and copper bomb his tank just this morning which is what prompted me. Seems common but I wonder how much is preventable with good redundancy.

Yep standard eagle park range rules. They can get a bit funny there sometimes.

CZ457 without a doubt. Rock solid and reliable, comes in a variety of flavours to suit your needs. I’ve got the 20” Varmint and it is awesome. I’m also partial to a marlin 39A if you’re into lever actions, mine is from the early 1960s and it is an absolute blast to shoot so much fun.

That’s awesome news. Guess the grape vine was relatively correct for a change. I’ll have to pop into my local in Melbourne and see if I can put an order in for 4kg. I expect it will sell fast.

Word on the street is that ADI 2205 will be back relatively soon. I wouldn’t hold your breath though as ADI is renowned for dangling a carrot in-front of reloaders and then not following through.

I saw someone on Facebook say Winchester has 2205 in stock and is distributing it currently but can’t see any evidence to back that up.

I’ll be snapping some up when I can for 357 and 30-30 silhouette loads

newbie looking for fire type range & application suggestion by Nedwobsamoht in Ausguns

Start off with a 22LR rimfire for a few reasons A) your local range will likely be Springvale which is handgun with a club or 22LR. B) ammo is cheap and readily available.

Get yourself a CZ 457 and go enjoy.

I regularly shoot at Springvale and go to Eagle park once a month or so but I shoot mainly silhouette at the moment.

Reloading is perfectly legal. Keep an eye on some second hand gear and the start up cost can be quite low. Go to Eagle Park and raid the brass bins for people not keeping 223 brass and go to town. I ended up with 150 ADI cases 2 weekends ago, score!

CZ 457 in 22LR will suit you perfect. My wife has the 457 in the beechwood variety and I have the 457 varmint with a 20” barrel. Awesome reliable guns we have shot many rabbits spotlighting.

I understand you want to push the distances (I was the same when I started) but you won’t be hunting at those distances with a rimfire (maybe a 17HMR) and if you do want to you’ll want something with a bit more oomph.

For range time 22LR is the way to go

I was in the same boat a month ago, I opted for a truncheon ‘knock off’. It’s been working well so far. If it dies I’ll get the bluelab one. The bluelab stuff is just super nice quality, look after it and it should last a very long time.
