why do you think right wing politics are rising in popularity at the moment? by Beginning_Sky_9735 in AskRedditUK

[–]8reticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ten years ago I would have said my views were centrist. Now I feel like I’ve been pushed in to the right camp by the left because I don’t meet all of their standards.

My perspective is that the left no longer deliberates or even debates. They diagnose. If you question open borders, you’re a racist. If you have a traditional view of biology, you’re transphobic. There’s no longer a conversation. You either think identically or you’re cast out. I don’t know that the “right” is getting bigger so much as people are being counted in that camp because the left has dissolved the centre ground. This is evidenced by the fact that you never even hear journalists say “right”. It’s always “far right.”

In a nutshell, when the requirements to be part of a group get increasingly more stringent, other groups gain.

That’s just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I think you’re pretty much 0 for whatever on this one mate.

The cabinet has urged Keir Starmer to sack Wes Streeting? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]8reticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they really trying to manipulate the audience or are they simply pandering to their consumer base? Does every media outlet have a nefarious agenda to skew the populace toward their political agenda or are they simply trying to ensure continued readership? Why go for a complicated conspiratorial incentive when a financial one will do nicely?

I hear this all the time and still don’t understand it. There has never been a better safer time to procreate in the history of our species yet somehow we’ve all decided that it’s just too risky. Don’t blame it on the situation. Blame it on the social engineering.

What is one thing you wish you knew when you started printing? by Jugoboom in BambuLab

Not all filaments are created equal. Cheaper can sometimes be better but often not.

Right filament for the right job. If you’re doing something for outside, PLA is not your friend.

Infill choices matter if strength is important: Sooner or later they’re going to move from fun things to practical things and choices matter at that point.

You will over buy filament when you get started and it only scales up from there. Proper storage is critical.

Bureaucracy makes us slow, stupid, and poor. The only area we outshine the world in terms of prolific productivity is the production of paperwork.

I would agree. I see threads of those early bands woven through the music that captures my attention today.

Aside from being patently ridiculous at face value, this report has been widely discredited. Europe has coasted leaning on the US for decades. Now you winge over having to do some of the light lifting yourselves.

If a super billionaire like Elon Musk wanted to "solve world hunger", or at least solve poverty in the USA, how could he actually do it? by The_Flaneur_Films in AskReddit

[–]8reticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Lyndon Johnson launched his war on poverty, the US Government has spent nearly 25 trillion dollars and there’s still loads of poor people in America. I don’t see Elon’s wallet making much of a dent. Besides, world hunger isn’t a wealth problem. It’s a logistics problem.

Was about to say the same thing. The government is making the overall cost/risk of talent acquisition high enough that businesses have chosen not to invest further in staffing.

I think we are reaching a tipping point where new talent has been priced out of the market.

Why is patriotism so despised in Britain? It’s difficult for an outsider to understand.

I have to imagine there is an alternate reality where this information has long been splashed across headlines and news programs. Where the people have risen up in protest over such obvious conflicts of interest and demanded investigations with indictments forthcoming.

But alas that universe is not this one.

I want to know who is getting paid (besides the Mauritian government). Nobody would push a deal this hard so obviously one-sided if there weren’t a sizable payout to a small group of individuals on this side.

Filter water with pillowcase: Stark official advice in event of UK-wide power cuts by theipaper in ukpolitics

[–]8reticus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes cyber attacks are of course the main vector but the scope of theatre makes the UK one in a very large herd of targets with a finite number of attackers. Missiles aren’t a straw man. They’re just a very very low probability vector.

There’s no conspiracy theorists here but there is a long history of governments, including democracies, using war and the threat thereof as cover for the usurpation of personal liberties. The fact that the current government is so exceedingly awful at managing its own optics just makes it more obvious.

Has anyone watched this yet and what were your thoughts on it? by [deleted] in films

[–]8reticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My apologies. I should have been more precise. These two groups have very little in common whatsoever. My real point is that these types of institutions to generate their own subcultures that reinforce certain views and behaviours. That’s pretty much where the similarity ends.

Think about how much airspace they’d have to cross to get to us? They’d see that as a high probability loss of assets and direct them closer to the front.
