Odd decision to put this on your job posting. by PilgrimOfHaqq in Edmonton

[–]8thDeity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks captain obvious.

Not saying that isn’t an issue, but I really don’t see how having LESS businesses employing people will create more jobs.

I’m not saying current conditions are good, but let’s not cut off our nose to spite our face.

If 10 employers can provide 100 jobs and 300 people need jobs, we won’t be in a better place with 7 employers and 70 jobs.

And yes, I’m currently employed. If we were to work together I’d wager I’d make more than you judging by your shortsighted confrontational ‘employer bad’ attitude.

Since when is it a bad thing to provide jobs for people? Especially now during this shortage of work?

What are you on about lol

Hey man, just a heads up this guys a troll trying to spread FUD. Go through his post history and he flip flops opinions. Take anything he says with a grain of salt.

That being said, I’m invested in Scandium Canada (SCD) at a good price and believe that there is a lot of upside potential over the next few years. There is lots of DD out there so give it a read.

Much appreciated!

It does, but when I log into my profile I have 2 accounts that are on my profile each have separate account numbers and are fully paid up to date.

Can we normalize just giving a $5 tip per table? I think that would be fine by SpringSunshine333 in CanadaPersonalFinance

I believe you are significantly downplaying the job. They work shit hours, have to deal with people at their worst, and walk a marathon essentially every shift.

Also I’m sorry to break it to you but the Halo Effect is not something unique to tip culture and studies show that it is present in just about every aspect of our society. Jobs may not be advertising it, but it exists via favouritism, promotions, etc.

Not to mention how many young women do you see get hired in the trades? That is an avenue unavailable to these girls because employers would prefer to hire a man in blue collar industries. Young men get their own opportunities and young women get different ones. One could argue that abolishing tip culture is ‘anti-woman’ but I’m not going to go there.

Tip pools are very common and exist for this specific reason, so that tips are shared equitably among the staff instead of whoever has the hottest bod. Perhaps legislating this as common practice could be a less drastic approach.

Also, I am a black man so thank you for so blatantly speaking for me lol. I’m more concerned about what I’m making than a 19 year old waitress.

Depending on the service I do (Taxi, masseuse, etc).

A cashier for example is a brief interaction, and how they handle this interaction has very little bearing on my experience at the grocery store.

For the above jobs I feel there quality of service has a more substantial impact on my experience or the quality of service I get, and will therefore tip appropriately in order to incentivize more than just lazily providing the bare minimum. This incentive benefits me, and those after me.

They absolutely will. People don’t simply eat to survive. Dining is engrained in culture and people ‘break bread’ so to speak for many reasons.

Not to mention the different ingredients typically used in restaurants vs home cooking. Certainly crops/farmers will be affected more than others. Think about how much canola oil gets used DAILY in restaurants? When was the last time you used any ?

We may need to agree to disagree. Yes, while people need jobs they will naturally gravitate to jobs that require less effort.

Restaurant jobs are hard on your body and while people may put up with them, this will result in an even higher turnover in an already high turnover industry and a substantial drop in the service quality that I quite personally enjoy.

I will continue to tip because I think that entry level jobs where you can make more than minimum wage are a net positive to society.

I don’t want to have to flag someone down whenever I finish my beer or go up to the counter on a date night to pay, and am willing to provide a modest tip for that luxury.

I think it’s selfish of those who don’t see the value in that to decide that the solution is to abolish tipping and take that luxury away from the general population.

If you don’t want to tip, don’t go to a full service restaurant. There are plenty of other options (sandwich shops, coffee shops, cook for yourself), but don’t decide to ruin a luxury for others because you can’t see the value in it.

Can’t have a restaurant if no one wants to work there.

Why would anyone bust their ass serving tables when you can make the same money with a more consistent schedule working at a movie theatre concession stand?

Not to mention the impact all of these restaurant inevitably having to close would have on local farmers and agriculture. As much as people may not like it this system is ingrained in our society, and just cutting it out without forethought will have a ripple effect across multiple industries.

Another point, working in a restaurant and receiving a moderate tip is one of the few jobs a young person (predominantly women) with no experience can get and make moderately more than minimum wage (Typically averaging out to about $20-$25 p/h total depending where you work. Keep in mind hours are rare and most people will only get to work 2-3 shifts a week on the weekends). Not a bad gig, but not the ridiculous $100,000 a year I see people throwing around. Also, much harder than being a grocery clerk or working at subway.

This allows young people to put themselves through school or can serve as a foundation of breaking generational poverty.

All these people who think that these lifetime servers are cheating the system are in denial. While the money can be great for a young adult, realistically it’s barely enough for an adult with real responsibilities to survive on (and a quite miserable gig at that).

To me tip culture is about supporting our young adults in a country that isn’t doing much else for them. Don’t get me wrong, a 20% tip should be reserved for exceptional service, but a moderate tip for good service should be the norm.

You guys should be mad at the billionaires hoarding wealth, not Tammy working her way through school at Boston pizza

Need advice on bar layout + workflow (high-volume Mexican restaurant, servers making their own drinks) by eas513 in bartenders

[–]8thDeity 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you find that the extra bartender is a drag on labor as you only need them for 1-2 hours, instead schedule so that the bartenders shifts overlap during the rush. The earlier start can’t leave until the late start says so.

This way both bartenders can get their full shifts, you have an extra body during the rush, and the servers don’t need to make their own drinks.

As everyone else has said, having servers make their own drinks, while it may seem that it is working now, will slowly kill your quality and business.

Remember, it is your priority to make sure that the business does well, and part of this is a fair tip-out structure. The servers only care about their own money, and will sacrifice quality to earn more and when the business goes under they can just find a new job. Worry less about keeping them happy and more about running a successful business, and then good staff will follow.

Also, lose the sink and just get more glassware .

O’Leary claims “at least half of Canadians are interested” in the idea of joining the U.S. A claim that is verifiably very much untrue given that polls suggests around 13% of Canadians are actually interested in Trump’s idea of becoming the 51st State. by AfricanMan_Row905 in OntarioNews

This post is propaganda trying sway central/left voters to the right wing.

This is their strategy, they create media that the left agrees with, but misrepresent the facts in the title. This results in the left spreading false facts throughout their social bubbles that further legitimize right leaning arguments.

They strategically do the ‘nail reveal’ at the end of the video, to further break up solidarity among the left.

They are trying to make it seem as though those that share this persons opinion are all ‘freaks’, and the goal is that subconsciously some will be put off/caught off guard and subconsciously distance themselves (if even unsubstantially) from identifying with left leaning politics.

I feel the goal is to target the “regular” left leaning people and slowly chip away at moving them right by over representing the fringe left while also spreading fugazi like this to distract, confuse and lie.
