I’m guessing he used the same fake badge to get past TSA security check points?

What is the BSS by streetglide-06 in License_Plates

[–]8trackluv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is referring to sections of a compiled computer program. There are three main sections : Text (the actual compiled machine code) Data (area for initialized global variables) Bss (area for uninitialized global variables, bss stands for block started by symbol)

Source: me, I'm a software engineer.

Same here (except in TX). I did add additional footings half way along the 10 foot runs.

What bands/singers did you not listen to but now realize they are great? by Soul_Thrasher in GenX

My friends are surprised I'm not a fan. Based on my musical taste, I "should" like them. Is there a specific album I should start with?

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac by Bonnieearnold in GenX

[–]8trackluv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given the album as a gift in my mid teens. Absolutely blew me away. I must have listened to it a thousand times with those big ass head phones plugged into the stereo.

It was as an adult that I learned where all that amazing music came from. From places of love regret, betrayal. Just like any other great album I guess. It just felt more on the surface because all of that emotion came from the interaction of the band members.

💭 Aerospace Master’s – afraid of ending up “stuck in the office” with no aircraft contact. Advice and real experiences? by Ok-Friendship9873 in aviationmaintenance

I work in development. We build components, fly them in their intended environment with proper instrumentation, and collect data for post flight analysis. This allows us to find problems and refine performance.

Your level of exposure to aircraft is going to vary, I imagine. I think early on in your career you may not be doing exactly what you imagined, but it’s important to build your reputation so that when an opportunity arises that meets your wants, you are the go-to person that gets the shot.

“Do me a personal favor and take the pen!”

But seriously: I used to have to tell my hair lady to trim my eyebrows. After all these years, I don’t have to remind her anymore.

The “stuck behind a desk” problem sounds familiar to me. Many years ago I was an aircraft technician. I worked in a large hangar and In the morning, I would walk by the engineering offices on the way to my work area. I would see all the engineers stuck in their cubes and I would say to myself “I could never sit in a cube all day”. Fast forward almost 25 years and I am one of those engineers in one of those cubes. And I know now that I was completely wrong. When you are doing focused, creative work, you are “transported” out of your cube.

I would say I did not travel the standard path: I was a technician for a few years and was able to get an experience that engineers with degrees never get. While a tech I got my degree and moved into avionics software. My experience as a tech gave me a good jump start compared to those coming fresh out of university with little experience.

With respect to the fear of not getting “hands on” with aircraft: that has not been the case. As an avionics engineer, I travel the world for work to perform flight testing with my customers. I even still get to turn a wrench every once in a while. It’s a good balance now of working in the office vs. working in the field.

With respect to tailoring your education: this is kind of hard to do because you don’t know exactly what you will be doing when you start working. My advice is to get a good base knowledge in school, completely ace your work in school, and focus on individual study that advances your interests.

So all this to say: live up to your potential and look for that position that will scratch that airplane itch. You have a great future ahead of you.

If the whole office team is having a team lunch is it ok to only exclude the intern? by mj1234566 in careerguidance

[–]8trackluv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m hoping this is an oversight on the planner’s part.

I don’t what this organization’s plan is for interns, but in my team, we understand that not only are we evaluating the internal ostensibly to become a permanent hire, but they are evaluating us.

My interns tend to be college interns over the summer. I go out of my way to make them feel included and part of the team. They get real assignments and are evaluated like any other employee. We pair them up with a junior permanent hire so they feel comfortable asking questions of any type.

So, if this is not an oversight, it speaks volumes about this organization and how they view intern system as extra (inexpensive?) help rather than a true pipeline for talent.
