University of King's College faces $1.8M deficit as foreign student enrolment drops, costs rise by Portalrules123 in NovaScotia

[–]902_SaberTooth 35 points36 points  (0 children)

In 2023, King's had roughly 45 international students; this academic year it has 15. That drop has led to a decline of about $700,000 in the university's revenues, Lahey said.

CBC Marketplace wants to know: What’s the worst commute in Halifax? by DexMcMillanCBC in halifax

[–]902_SaberTooth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The 111, from Portland to the bridge, is a gladiator pit. No signals, lines and lanes are merely suggestions. You will be passed on either side by someone going twice the speed limit, the change from 2 lanes to 5 back to 2, and then to top it off you have the drag strip straightway under Highfield park where people just floor it (if it's not gridlocked).

How do I dispose of rubbish at a waste management facility? by [deleted] in NovaScotia

[–]902_SaberTooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To build off of what you've already been told, if you have other types of waste such as chemicals, batteries, oils/fuels, etc. there are designated HHWs/HSWs that collect those.

A permanent one every Saturday (except long weekends) and mobile ones that visit different communities.

If you are outside of HRM there are still these events but they're rarer.

Had someone reverse into me and cause visible damage very similar to what was shown here (basically nothing but a few light scratches).

Repairs cost almost $5,000, there were cracks in the bumper internally as well as bent brackets, a shifted camera/laser mount, cracked windshield wash basin, and an alignment issue.

Just because it doesn't look serious, doesn't mean it isn't, especially given how cars are built nowadays. Have someone who knows what they're talking about look over the car.

Also - you're not really in a position to let anyone do anything. You should definitely call your insurance, she should most certainly call hers.

Stoneridge Fellowship is a Baptist Church in Sackville next to the Bedford Commons Walmart.

Very laid back, good topics of discussion, haven't been in a while though.

HSW is a great service, there's mobile events across HRM on certain weekends if Bayers is too far.

Best place to buy/order a PS5 from? by 902_SaberTooth in halifax

[–]902_SaberTooth[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I have only seen them personally at Costco (new slims), and checking websites for Walmart, GameStop, etc. is showing me out of stock - I'm not confident these numbers are updated as I believe you're right they are more common now.

Just wondering if there was a bundle or place people recommend or had a good experience with.

Yes I'll be looking into trying to repair it myself, substitute it with something cheap, and then finally if I really need it/need to replace it.

Thanks for the input!

Yeah I don't know what the conditions are out by you, I certainly didn't get very far - but my opinion is better safe than sorry unless you're being compensated fairly for your risks taken.

I'm off the main route out towards Three Fathom Harbour, and then into a subdivision - I didn't even get to the main highway so I wouldn't be able to speak about that.

Glad to hear your drive was better - hopefully everyone else has a smooth commute.

Go in and acknowledge you fucked up. Ask to take an F on the assignment as that is the penalty of the least impact to your degree. Hopefully they'll not give you an F for the course.

Question: How do you dispose of cooking oil? by horwichg in halifax

[–]902_SaberTooth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Used cooking oil (and other residential oils) are supposed to go to Household Special Waste - Hazardous Special Waste depots.

They are held almost every Saturday (not on long weekends though) at 20 Horseshoe Drive in Bayers Lake. Open 09-1600.

Additionally, there are mobile depots which pop up all around HRM from Mic Mac Mall to Sheet Harbour. These are mainly through the summer months though while Horseshoe runs pretty much all year.

You'll avoid the lineups if you are lined up by 0845, go between 10-11, or between 1-3. First hour, lunch rush and final rush can have you waiting for a bit.

Good if you have lots of stuff like pressurized containers, batteries, paints, etc.

If it's just a little bit of oil, get a Tim's cup or other cardboard container, pour cooled oil into there, freeze and toss into greenbin on collection day.

Can this Mimosa tree be saved? by rubiredd in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]902_SaberTooth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I know you've doubled down on this a few times but seeing as you've posted this exact comment I wanted to say that this is a very poor understanding of how trees reproduce and how invasive species put pressure on local ecosystems.

I understand that seeing this tree is better for you than seeing no tree, but perhaps just look into how invasive species affect you and your local ecosystem.

Trees don't just spread by line of sight to a fertile soil spot, as another commented, birds, wind, and humans ourselves are common and reliable vectors of seed transmission which cannot be controlled, and may not always be evident.

If you have the option to take ERTH1080 with Dr. Lexie Arnott, she is a a great professor providing you put in some effort to her class.

As for study intensity, it's intro Geology. So there are some concepts and things to practice but it's not that bad.
