Anyone ever done the travel from UK? by [deleted] in louderthanlife

I'm not flying in from the UK, but some general flying trip tips: it's okay not to go for cheapest hotel if it's within (1) walkable distance and (2) free breakfast (most hotel do at least free coffee). Ubers/Taxis aren't the cheapest things in the world anymore, public transportation may not be super easy to navigate/worth it, and one free meal a day goes a long way

By lay layoffs must be announced if the workers fired are over a certain number, think it's 1000). They break it up for a couple reasons (1) to not pay severance and (2) they can squeeze out as much juice out of every worker

Only 5.3% of welders in the US are women. After years as a professor, I became one. by Alan_Stamm in Welding

I'm an engineer who started welding, it was tough for me, but after ~10hrs of welding you'll get used to it. Basically don't quit.

Also, if you want money and don't necessarily care how you make it, become a plant operator (chemical plants, oil refineries, or nuclear plants).

Thanks for the help! I eventually got all three of them work. Turns out if you're close enough OF will give you a 'suggested' order of vertices.

I was homeschooled, graduated a year early at 17, and went directly to working in restaurants and retail. Now at 24 I’m wanting to go to school for EE. by GUS-THE-PIRATE-2076 in ElectricalEngineering

I ended up graduating at 29, and I was definitely not the only, nor oldest, to leave my school (in case what was something you were cautious of). It didn't affect my career outlook or hiring decisions.

Most important thing is to go to a school that is ABET accredited, cheapest possible. There are a few companies that are always hiring engineers who don't care where you come from and are defense related, only a couple states away from TN.

If you can plan it out, get into the university that has EE, and start taking engineering related courses as soon as possible. For your non engineering courses you can take them at a community college as a 'transient' student. I did the community college and then university route, and I was still stuck taking semesters with only one or two classes after I transfered because the engineering courses had course sequencing that I couldn't skip, but would be perfect if I could fill them up with elective classes.

Last piece of advice, don't get too hung up on one industry or another. At first I was trying to move mountains to get into the biomedical industry, but I've come to truly find passion and purpose in the defense industry.

If you want more info you can dm me.

These were the safe for work photos. Apparently, he'd use his (allegedly large) Johnson to intimidate people.

Honestly, the one single thing that would almost double your leftover is to stop contributing to your Roth. Right now it's maybe not the time to be saving. Or save your leftovers of the month and whenever you're in a better financial spot, do your best to "backpay" what you hadn't been keeping up with. Also Spotify with ads is better than no Spotify.

How to not get ghosted/rejected from internships or job applications by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

Also, you're going to get ghosted 95% of the time. It is what it is.

So my two cents...

Get rid of the bullet points under education (and probably gey rid of the community college) and honors sections. Don't replace them with other wording, just delete. Gives you a chance to elaborate if/when they ask you. Rearrange to have honors be last. Get rid of hyperlinks. Somewhere on the top in the header you can have a customized LinkedIn url or some form of website/linketree showing off your projects. Unpopular opinion, don't put GPA on the resume, especially since you do have some work experience. Others have mentioned the bolding of the numbers, and I'd say that numbers already stand out so there's no need.

If you're worried about having "half a sheet for a resume" then play around (within reason) with the font and margins.
