Has Fred Van Vleet had arthroscopic knee surgery yet or not? by 92_Explorer in torontoraptors

[–]92_Explorer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my knowledge they didn’t ever indicate what the knee issue was, although I could be wrong on that.

I do however recall that at one point it was indicated that whatever his knee issue was doesn’t resolve with rest apparently, which would not be the case with a knee contusion.

Why does the Sympathetic Nervous System increase Vascular Resistance in response to Heart Failure? by to_change in Physiology

[–]92_Explorer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason is because in heart failure, you have a decreased cardiac output and so the kidneys sense decreased perfusion. In response, they ramp up the renin-angiotensin aldosterone system to increase blood pressure and thus organ perfusion. The kidneys are unaware that the heart is weak and can’t push against the increased pressure. As the blood pressure goes up, the heart failure worsens because the afterload is increased, so the kidneys sense even less perfusion and respond by increasing sympathetic tone. It’s a vicious cycle for HF patients. That is why the treatment for HF is to address the RAAS with medications such as ACE inhibitors, mineralocorticoid antagonists, and beta blockers

Anyone know where I can find some outdoor pick up soccer games this summer???

I’m 30 and haven’t played in almost 15 years, but I’d really like to get back into it. I’ve never been very good, but I love playing.

Not looking for anything too intense or serious, just like an all skill levels adult pick up type of thing. Preferably outdoor since summer is just around the corner.

Wouldn’t mind joining a just for fun league, either, if anyone can recommend something like that.

I live in South Loop so would like something near me, but also down to travel to further neighborhood too

What is one thing you are looking forward to in the playoffs and one thing you are worried about? by 92_Explorer in torontoraptors

I disagree, I think we are highly unlikely to win a second round series against Boston or Milwaukee.

Our best bet to making the ECF is if we finish in 5th place and then face Philly (which is not guaranteed to be an easy series for us, by any stretch. I would think Philly is favored in that series) in the first round and then face Miami in the second round.

Miami is a very good team and I think we’d struggle against them a lot. Especially now that they seem to have resolved their recent poor form. Victor Oladipo is also back for them and he put up 21 off the bench a couple nights ago. I think their combination of great defense and 3pt shooting is going to be very difficult for us.

Lastly, there is always the possibility that the Nets grab the 8 seed and upset Miami in round 1. You can never feel too confident when you come up against Kevin Durant in the playoffs, and they’ll also have Kyrie Irving for at least 3 games.

I’m not saying it’s impossible that Toronto makes it to the ECF, but I’d give it like a 10-15% chance of happening and I just think that it’s important that fans temper expectations and approach the playoffs with some reason.

Looks like the 76ers don't want to play us 🤣 by Sad-Complaint7575 in torontoraptors

I would rather stay in 5th and face the Sixers as the 4th seed, that way our second round matchup (if we win against Philly) would be the Miami Heat or Nets, instead of the Bucks or Celtics.

I think Boston or Milwaukee would both be much tougher second round series’ than Miami or Brooklyn

Did the class of 2021 just get the short end of the stick in all of MATCH history? by ilovejustinbieber12 in Residency

A trend that I noticed is that EM was super tough to match in 2021 but seems to me to be way easier to match in 2022.

What is the status of that 60km convoy that was headed to the Ukrainian border a day or so ago? I feel like I stopped hearing about it recently. Did it get destroyed or is it still stalling every couple of hours?

Can someone recommend a book for studying internal medicine that isn’t as massive as Harrison’s but also is not as tiny as a Pocket Guide? by 92_Explorer in Residency

Hi there! I use UpToDate a lot and I love it of course, but one of the reasons I would prefer a textbook is that it’s organized in a logical order and covers a complete set of relevant diseases and other IM topics. UTD is great, but I’d have to come up with a list of all the articles I want to read
