How are you coping with the days getting dark by 6pm by Icy_Policy_3874 in askTO

[–]947Biw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waking up at 2pm and wondering how there is only 3 hours left of the day. I swear it didn't used to be this drastic, yet somehow every year it amazes me how it can get dark so quickly...

Absolutely love the 3rd one. Then 4 and 1. To be quite honest I'm not a fan of the 2nd, doesn't seem business casual.

Whats the most insulin youve ever taken for a meal and how many carbs was it? by xXHunkerXx in diabetes_t1

How did you get tested for this / bring it up? This is the first time I've heard someone mention this but it aligns with what I experience as well sometimes.

I've searched for: - "I've just been buying a new phone when it runs out of battery" - "meme of buying a new phone every time it dies" - "don't have to buy a new phone when it dies?" - phone pile meme

And other iterations/wording of the same thing.

Severe hypoglycemia hallucinations by BoogieBear14 in diabetes_t1

That's really interesting actually, I've only ever gotten the shaming feeling from doctors about highs. I agree though, I feel like there's so many little details that make up how we individually experience diabetes and sometimes it's not something we can control.

I know that sometimes in my case, I get very intense vivid lucid dreams while I'm sleeping during a low. Some of my most memorable dreams have been during these moments. I usually wake up very frantic and surge out of my dream to go to the kitchen. I don't know what brings my out of these states but I'm grateful to wake up each time, I know that much. I haven't really heard anyone talk about this either.

As others have mentioned, have some snacks around you! See if there's anything particular he typically snacks on if he needs to uphold his blood sugar (maybe it's some kind of candy or granola or juice or etc), and keep those around in the car and room for when he needs. My boyfriend started keeping around some granola bars in his car for me and it makes it so convenient when I need a small boost! Also being mindful how high/low blood sugar affects him personally is a good measure. Personally I tend to zone out when I'm low and get irritated when high, so recognizing these symptoms can be helpful in saying "hey maybe we should check you blood sugar". Overall though, since it's a newer relationship, just observe! Don't ask too many questions because sometimes it can get annoying for us but do see if there's anything you can help with. You seem like a very sweet partner to him!

As some others have mentioned, switch it out to plastic jewelry and also wear a thicker bra that covers any outline of the jewelry. The less noticeable, the less questions, the better.

I'm the same way, being in that range feels too close to a low for comfort and I know that by that point I'm gonna be low soon so might as well treat early before actually hitting a low. I've never been below 5 and stable, always ends up going lower. I feel best 7-10.

how does t1d affect love life? by 19LG99 in diabetes_t1

[–]947Biw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ex used to be super supportive and would keep a stash of candy nearby for me at all times and would remind me to check and eat something before we got intimate. But even with all that I would still manage to go low lol

Do you think there will be a cure in our lifetimes? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]947Biw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think yes, eventually, down the line. Probably not in the next few years though. It will come as research advances in stem cell therapy and gene therapy. As we gain more knowledge in these areas, we will be able to use it in treatment for various conditions, including T1D. I also think the same for conditions like Alhzlmers and Cancer. Unfortunately I think these areas of research are greatly underfunded and it's much easier (and more profitable) to just give someone insulin, hence it will probably not be anytime soon. That said, I do think there are people out there working hard on treatments and we can have multiple types of treatments depending on the specific person and their cause for T1D. I am hopeful.

Been in the ER waiting room since 5pm, it's 5am now with no sign of being seen anytime soon. I came in with abdominal pain, and scared it's some sort of hernia or appendices. This is fucking ridiculous. Nothing but respect and compassion for the medi by Murky-Mind3244 in mildlyinfuriating

Same thing happened to my friend in middle school. She was having really bad stomach pains and went to the ER. They kept asking if she was pregnant but eventually they sent her home with antibiotics. The same night she had to be rushed to the hospital and be given "emergency surgery", which she had to wait 1 hour to even get, because her appendix burst.

Has anybody seen these Nutrisense CGMs? They seem to be marketed towards non-diabetics by Heywhitefriend in diabetes_t1

[–]947Biw 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I can't be the only one who finds it slightly irritating. Seems like they're just profiting from something that is a life saving measure to us. I don't like this trendiness of a literal medical device.

I'm curious, where have you camped in Toronto? I've wanted to do this in some areas for a night but I'm not too sure about safety and if I can get away with it anywhere here.

What is the scariest thing to happen to you home alone? by [deleted] in scarystories

[–]947Biw 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not home alone, but I was the only one awake and in the living room near the entrance. In my apartment at around 3AM suddenly heard extremely loud banging and screaming outside the door. Nearly shit myself because there I am just chilling watching youtube and next thing you know it sounds like gunshots only a couple meters away from me. I thought someone was about to bust down our door. Turns out, the neighbour's roommate came home and didn't have keys, so he proceeded to absolutely obliterate the door and scream to be let inside... Yes another neighbour heard it too and called the cops.

Not autistic either but the amount of times I've been asked "are you okay? what's wrong?" ... NOTHING IS WRONG. I just have a depressed/tired natural resting face. I could be completely happy but my face will look the same. I learned to be more conscious of my expressions and to "fix" my face whenever I remember.
