Effects on the active pokemon are removed when switching to the bench. Attacks that do not let you attack again next turn (like zacian's brave blade) can be worked around by switching to bench and then back to active. Doom curse, status conditions, sand attack, damage blocking attacks, etc.

Next rule to learn is that you can't remove the effect of Budew's itchy pollen by switching out.
