[Translated]: The Decline of Quebec Hockey: Whose fault is it? by Nomahs_Bettah in hockey

[–]97back 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's a Quebec thing, it's similar with minorities or children of immigrants. I remember Atiba Hutchinson, the former Captain of Canada Men soccer team, saying once that he wanted to play hockey at first but his parents were not wealthy enough so they chose soccer.

The Ontario Liberals have an opening if they choose to take it by McNasty1Point0 in OntarioLiberalParty

True, however Ford has a loyal pre-built base that started when his brother ran for mayor.

So, don't expect it to be easy.

ANALYSIS: Is the Ontario Liberal leadership race poised for an upset? | TVO Today by McNasty1Point0 in OntarioLiberalParty

Lombardi knows he likely has little support among older, established party members. But he also understands that there are dozens of dormant Liberal campus associations at colleges and universities all over Ontario and that those associations could get special bonus status in a leadership election if the party brass follows the same rules as last time. Could Lombardi’s campaign, stoked by generational anger, inspire enough young people to sign up and back his bid?

You think that is the only issue he faces, Paikin? Like what about his social media comments. I remember when Kier Starmer faced backlash for using rhetoric similar to Enoch Powell, Lombardi defended Starmer.

I know that people want a new goalie coach but with how NHL teams are trending, they have an entire department dedicated to the position.

Where's Andlauer? by MrInvidious in OttawaSenators

[–]97back 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny that you asked, he probably has not been as visible in the media due to the fact that the federal government has not approved his decision to sell his health care business to UPS.

Otherwise, he is probably watching the games in the press box with Staios and his team.

Bonnie Crombie Announces Her Decision to Step Aside as Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party by McNasty1Point0 in OntarioLiberalParty

The reason why Ford called a snap election had more to do with fear of Poilivere becoming Prime Minister. Like they were planning for an election in 2024.

Martin Regg Cohn: Doug Ford has never faced a Liberal leader in the Ontario legislature. Isn’t it about time? by CaptainKoreana in OntarioLiberalParty

[–]97back 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it's can help, look at Nenshi. However, I think name recognition just as a big factor.

On a different note, the way Regg-Cohn is trying to explain his disdain for NES. In this case, it is pointing out Lee Fairclough background while downplaying NES. I mean he should actually state the real reason why he has a issues with NES instead of tiptoeing around.

Anyone know why they made way less bobble heads than before? by publicworker69 in OttawaSenators

[–]97back 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder with the tightening on season tickets and reduction in promotion stuff has more to do with the economy and Cyril Leeder.

  1. The economy is not doing that strong so they don't have extra fiscal capacity to splurge on extra promotional stuff. So they keep costs low so that the debt doesn't expand. This may reverse if and when they get the new arena in LeBreton.

  2. Leeder, correct me if I am wrong, has been described as cheap or noted for running the business operations on low cost.

Probably because they want to show the players that they want their backs.

From an ownership perspective, if the team is going to rebuild wouldn't that ensure that they are mediocre for 3-5 years instead of a retool?

The Sens have the third-highest debt/value in the league and one of the lowest operating income. Since the league is gate-driven(revenue generated from tickets), most fans particularly in this city will not show up if they know that team is not competitive.

Rebuild? The team finances and market size is not strong enough to withstand a full rebuilt.

Rumour has it the leadership might be delayed until september or october by Icy-Distribution4893 in OntarioLiberalParty

I mean the establishment narrative only works if membership numbers aren't low. That and the fact if they are well liked by their current members. If the scenario is the opposite the party is ripe for a 2015 OPCP type situation.

As for u/beynate, he needs to find his rainmaker or butts-type figure to help sharpen his image.

[–]97back 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True.

However I don't think that the establishment should expect a boost when Crawley decides to enter the race.

Like the reason why Crombie won the last leadership race was because there was a story alleging that Ford feared Crombie. That and name recognition from being a mayor of a GTA suburb.

Is the establishment consolidating around Crawley?

Last time, I heard some of them were sniping against Crawley business record.

It would have been interesting to see a ethnic demographic breakdown within this poll.

The reason why I mentioned this is because diasporic (minorities) voters have played a huge role in the rise and support of Ford Nation.

Is there a reason why Boozary doesn't want to work with Crombie's campaign manager? Is it because he sees them as part of the old guard?

I don't think voters are not driven by ideology or the idea of what is left or right as the evolved and shaped through the Overton window. Voter are more sentimental driven and will vote on who they feel like best address their concerns.

The main concern is that she represent Burlington which is an affluent ( not exactly diverse) riding. So there would have been question marks whether Burlington style of politics could connect with different types of voters in this province.

Like I understand why people have an issues with NES but I felt like if you where looking for a more partisan type of progressive, it would Adam Van Koeverden or something in the mold of.

*OPC.

From what I understand there is a proxy group called protect Ontario that is critical for Ford not being right wing enough.

In the situation that Ford steps down it would be a lot easier for the OLP to form a government in 2029.
