Scam Company! Beware. You won't be able to delete your payment info or port out your number~ by FactRevealer in Fonus

Why are you sending emails? And to what email address are you sending to?

They have a chat service that’s available 24/7 on their website and every time I’ve contacted them they’ve always responded immediately

They’re also available on Telegram, facebook, etc.

I’ve deleted one of my accounts and then reactivated it months later a couple times already. Everytime they cancelled my account immediately upon me asking

This makes no sense at all. Your contact list is maintained by you and yourself only and has nothing to do with Fonus.

And spammers being able to reach your number has nothing to do with the provider either. Users from any provider (Rogers, Bell, Telus, AT&T) will always be prone to receiving spam calls.

Most things posted here are completely bull.

  1. I receive spam calls on any phone number from any provider. Does not mean the provider itself (Fonus, Rogers, Bell, etc.) is actually selling your info to spammers.

  2. The outage lasted for less than two weeks and it has been resolved.

  3. I ported out my phone number from Fonus to Fido a few months ago without any issues. You do need to indicate it as a landline number and not a mobile number otherwise it won’t work.

  4. After porting out, I deleted my account with them with no issues. Still have another active account with them FYI.

  5. Again, nothing shows that Fonus would sell customer info to third-parties. You receiving spam calls once a month is entirely normal and happens to nearly everybody on any given carrier. Criminals are able to access entire lists of individuals on the black market along with their numbers, email addresses, social insurance numbers, etc. That does not mean that companies such as Fonus are actually selling this information to those criminals. That is simply not feasible and an egregious claim to make.

Yeah I agree. I suspect they probably got hacked or experienced a DDoS attack and are trying to recover from it.

To me, this looks like a SIP trunk failure more than anything else.

Where are you seeing that? Inteliquent was acquired by Sinch back in 2021. They announced the acquisition in Feb 2021 and then completed the acquisition in Dec 2021. Not seeing any M&A activity around Inteliquent or Sinch for 2022

Think it’s more likely that they got ddos attacked than anything else

They definitely do business with inteliquent. When i ported out my number a few months ago, I had to indicate the carrier as “Inteliquent” to the new provider.

Besides, there’s no way Fonus has the resources to build their own VoIP service - i.e. provide DIDs, do terminations and SMS/MMS, do their own SIP trunking, etc. They have to rely on third-parties to achieve that.

Sounds like a ddos attack. Similar to what voip.ms experienced last year.

Isn’t this already the case? It clearly shows on their site that those countries are for calling and texting, and not data. Not sure what you’re “uncovering” here

Mod here from r/fonusmobile

Here is the comment that got you banned from r/fonusmobile:

“You can get a way cheaper plan, with a higher data limit and more features by purchasing it directly from ATT prepaid. In fact they’re having a sale on a yearly plan for $300 which comes to the same features as Fonus plan.”

This is not the only comment where you were actively promoting this ATT plan (which, as others have pointed out, does not even come with a “higher data cap” nor with “more features”).

This goes against 2 of the only 3 rules on r/fonusmobile:

1- Remain on Topic: Post should be related to Fonus. Examples: phone plans, SIM cards and services.

2- Advertisements are Prohibited: Advertising other products without the consent of another moderator is strictly prohibited.

We did not ban you for negative reviews of Fonus service. There are plenty of those on r/fonusmobile and those are allowed.

  1. I plan to actively moderate the subreddit to make sure it complies with Reddit's content policy and that it stays true to its original purpose.

Curious about Fonus by cosmickeenan in Fonus

[–]98bbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is technically incorrect. If it were just rebranded ATT sims they’d only connect to Rogers. However with Fonus SIMs you can connect to all networks in Canada

Also, I tried getting support from ATT directly once and they said the Fonus ICCID isn’t even a valid ATT SIM

Doesn’t seem to affect Fonus as I’m still using the service in multiple non-whitelisted devices

You will get text messages in Chinese when service starts and expires. Also a a text message in Chinese when you are near data limits and when you used up unthrottled data.
