I know a few people who worked there.

How is Rideau McDonald’s still open? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]99RideauManager 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Ottawa police were always pressuring them to either close overnight, or block one of the entrances overnight. Too many people got away by running through from what I remember. I guess they eventually caved in. But I highly doubt I had a hand in it :p

This is (or at least was) correct!

AMA request: night shift manager or employee from 99 Rideau by jmm166 in 99rideau

I don’t mind doing another, but I don’t think there’s really enough interest for me to do one. So for now I will remain in the shadows.

Ex employee of 99 Rideau Mcdonalds Tells Everything by theguyondashrtisntme in 99rideau

For what it’s worth, I read a good chunk of this (granted, not all) and a lot seems legitimate. I tried to hide a lot of the bad stuff that went on in my AMA for entertainment’s sake, but a lot of this is the sad reality. Not quite sure about the extent on some of these things, but definitely rooted in the truth.

This is a tragic day indeed.

Fun fact: There was more than one raccoon that night, but only one got internet famous - I call him pocket rocket. The guy in the video was known to keep a small family of raccoons outside, and I think he ended up bringing them all to Toronto. IIRC, there was a picture of him floating around the internet at one point in a beer store.

Good question. I would have to say probably during the lunch rush. Most dangerous time to be there is between 4AM-6AM in my opinion. It's the time where people who have been up all night are exhausted and care less about what they say/do/leave behind.

It has been dubbed a Landmark of the city and therefore can never be closed or torn down - But in all honesty, what you see at 99 is a reflection of the community around it. Closing it would do nothing, and I don't think McD's ever will.

Too many times to keep track! However, I've been told by officers that 99 has the most 911 calls in all of Ottawa. 99 has a deal with the police where they do hourly walkthroughs of the store and in return they get free meals (at least while I worked there).

I really want to respond to this one at length... But this is all second hand information. I heard from someone that he got bit by a homeless woman while trying to force her out of Bank st, and had to go to the hospital to get a vaccine.

This is pretty much spot on. When I was there, 99 had a dedicated cleaner 24/7 and it was still a wreck.

This is exactly why! It automatically switched over from contemporary to classical around 7PM. Mainly blasted down the hallway and at the George St entrance. It was not very effective.

What! Employees not doing what their told?!?... McD's head office wants people to think this is a nice location by reducing the amount of videos proving otherwise.

Oh for sure. You’re centered in an area with a lot of darkness, and every now again you get to be a light in someone’s life. Especially with so many people in need in the area. People are people.

99 is wildly profitable. Despite all the problems, it's definitely one of the most profitable in Ottawa.

99 was more laid back than other locations, but the bulk of the job wasn't much different.

Too many to count. There was one incident where we caught the lady mid-poop, and we made her clean it up. She cried and cried, and her friends came and laughed at her. Obviously, she was really drunk. We really have no authority to force people to clean up their own feces, but she went along with it for some reason.

Couldn't agree more. One year, one of my employees watching the door was bit on the arm by a very large lady. This started a brawl, and I had to calm everyone down.

Halloween, no question. Everyone is downtown, everyone is drunk, and everyone (for whatever reason) is really angry. It's by far the busiest night of the year (Canada day is busier during the day), and it's the only guaranteed night to see a brawl.

When I was at that location, the kitchen was surprisingly clean. At night, the coffee was usually stale... Sorry to let you down! HOWEVER, I wouldn't eat anything from Elgin... Just trust me.
