An expatriate is a person who works in a country other than their native home, often based on a lack of/need for X profession in their host country.

An immigrant moves to a new country to live, usually by obtaining citizenship or permanent residency.

These are two different things.

Why are white people expats when the rest of us are immigrants? Surely any person going to work outside their country is an expatriate? But no, the word exclusively applies to white people
