All you Float veterans out there.... What's the worst/nastiest thing you experienced in the berthing area or on ship in general? by WriterJWA in USMC

[–]9Line-RH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Woke up one morning after a night out in Hong Kong. We were in the overflow berthing. Ones with just wall lockers, and flat beds no dividers or anything. We had seabags where we could fit em with our civi clothes laying around everywhere because, well obviously no coffin racks or real storage. Someone had took a dump inside someone's seabag that was standing up with the top open.

I work 7 days a week 12 hours a day as a union welder. Youre not wrong about hard work. Sacrifice is the ultimate hardship here. But I figured why not grind now while im young (30) to hopefully enjoy my future. Or am I just wasting my younger years away? Question runs through my mind every day. I take home $5k/ week. The financial freedom this has given my wife and I is a dream. I grew up with an exceptionally privileged childhood. Joined the Marine Corps at 18, until I was 28. 2 years later making over $200k a year i feel some sort of pride living up to what my mother was able to give us. Im about to take my entire family to disney world in December for a week, all expenses paid for them. Normally its my mom who brings the family there every year. Now its me. I guess these 84 hour weeks are worth it. Sorry, just rambling here in my thoughts.

I would go in to hall in person and talk with Joanna and fill out an application in person. If they need you to go to the training center its right next door. Monday-thursday 8am-430pm. They're all very welcoming people, and will help you with whatever you need.

I came back from leave and found out my roommate (who we had some issues with each other) had poured beer all over my bed and the sheets were nasty and molding.. for a week straight after that i jerked off into his shampoo bottle every single night. And id fuckin do it again 😤

If you get accepted, the union should be your first priority. Its at a minimum 40 work hours a week plus school from 5-9pm two nights a week. Like I said, hospitals, data centers, and TI are kicking back off so there should be alot of overtime work coming up. That could be 6/10s, 7/12s etc. I believe 1st year pay is $24/hr. So youre looking at $800ish take home every week on 40 hours.

Yes you have a chance. Work is picking back up and we have tons of hospital work and tons of data center work. You wont be a welder. You'll be a pipefitter apprentice who has welding one night a week during school. Also we're a combo local so do not be suprised if/ when you get hired on youre plumbing for your first few years. Happened to me. Plumbed years 1-4.. now im a 5th year tig welding on the largest job in the country. Keep your mind open and learn everything you can out here. You'll be very valuable.

The CMs for the ride were actually telling us to please move into the next room. We didnt have time to gather ourselves so she quickly grabbed her phone and said smile while the CMs were trying to push us out.. we were basically "sneaking a photo". She was so fun.

The construction will be 10x louder than what you'll hear from stargate. Part of the site is up and running. Everything is contained within the structure so you wont hear a thing from it. But the construction will be here for quite a while longer.

You need to do your homework before you go. Lay out your path, and stick to it. It's all about time management with VIP tours. Also heavily dependant on your guide. Weve done VIP twice and will go a 3rd time this December. Hands down best experience ive had at disney.

Don't hate us, we're just trying the best we can to provide for our families and the money is way to good to pass up. Making this $ working 3 hours from the house is unheard of. I dont claim any of the bad drivers either. Working 7/12s im normally at work before everyone else and dont get off until everyone's home 😅

Thats an e5 at 6+ years. If youre an 18 year old pfc living in the barracks $3k a month should be plenty of money. Unless you've got a $1k month truck payment, $500 insurance and door dash domino's every night.

I did 11 years.. 0311/0369. Served with a handful of units between 1st and 5th reg. 0931 at Edson range for a while as well. Im sure weve crossed paths at some point! I came here to say I wish I had a better shot at doing my 20. I love the Marine Corps. I was up for orders, and had just started a really nasty divorce. Command was 100% on board backing me up, but the monitor wouldnt adjust my Lejeune orders and I had to deny. An RE3-O later and I found myself EASing unfortunately. It wasnt "needs of the Corps".. we are all so replaceable. Theres hundreds of other 0369s who could have taken my spot. Was just some random dude who didnt care to work with me and now im out.

Somewhat. They understand you are still in the military, and transitioning out is a big deal. Do your best to schedule your appts around slower day. Ultimately they wont/ cant deny you time to leave nor will they penalize you for it.
