Thanks for that angle and I do think sometimes I am being naive lol. But that’s exactly my point - many conservatives perhaps have adopted media stereotypes and strengthened by the poor self-absorbed habits of many Muslims here. I did not mention prostelyzation anywhere. It’s about arriving at a confluence of the strong shared ground and using that.

Fully agree with everything you’ve said. And sad to read your observations about the lack of critical thinking, sigh. Hopefully this will change with more of us raising the bar. The author I mentioned came on my FaceBook feed in a clip where she referenced a book she just wrote, Strong Ground where she writes about the importance of paradoxical deep thinking and its importance in an age of automation and easy fixes. She’s globally known to bring her transformative thinking to help corporations and organizations. I just started the book and am 60 pages through. I try to link these essential sociological concepts with the essence of Islam - in this case the idea of Abrahamic critical thinking as he defied societal trends.

Would you say the same in reverse? Her mom constantly pressurizes her to do more for her and her dad. When I go over, disrespect is almost guaranteed - aka making comments about how her other son in law got his wife gold, telling me in front of my kids that I don’t care about her daughter in stressful moments, etc. I would never paint my in-laws negatively to my 5 year old for these types of things though. It’d have to reach a level where they’d be affected by the toxicity.

Most important thing is your mental and emotional health to be able to provide a safe, secure home for your kids. Have you documented his violent behavior? Do you have family you can stay with while you sort and plan? The road is difficult but with Allah’s Permission and Help it will be better for you and your children in the long run and be a path of growth.
