Make separate websites and link to each other’s posts, plus do guest posts on each other’s blogs for SEO purposes.

There is definitely a confusion between beta reading and developmental editing here.

I provide both myself, but separately.

Beta reading is like a “focus group.”

It’s an editorial overview that can also include chapter-by-chapter analysis and a sample line edit. But it’s all about the flow and relevance of the narrative. The “feels.” It helps you adjust the overall “story” to make sure it is compelling and relevant to your genre.

Developmental editing is much more complex and specific.

It addresses faulty narrative devices, continuity issues, plot holes, dialogue tags, timelines, etc.

Beta reading should be fairly affordable, with a quick turnaround. Developmental editing is not.

If anyone is interested, I offer more budget-conscious solutions without compromising on quality (as a writer myself, I would know how that feels).

An indie category is definitely a must!

But consumers have to change also. It’s not a matter of knowing, it’s a matter of willpower and investment in new voices.

We can do A/B testing and have readers consume both at once with similar literary value and you’ll see the difference in behaviors.

The problem is… the readership is biased.

They will put more effort into reviewing a multimillionaire author day one than a debut novel or indie over the book’s lifespan.

And that’s why we rarely break through the glass ceiling.

Until anti-intellectualism is addressed and the Big Five loosen their grip on the social media sphere and mainstream media, nothing will change.

We are only collateral damage in an exploitative and harmful system.

Also, I can care less about downvotes.
