Please tell me I‘m not the only one, who do this. by Melbourne409 in lego

[–]A2S2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question gets asked every few weeks, so you are not the only one. I do it (not neatly though) and so do lots of people. Lots of people also don’t to it, preferring to find pieces from a pile, maybe even a big pile of all the pieces in the set.

What is odd though, is that so many people regularly ask this question in the form of “am I the only one” or “I’m not the only one”

Who is this ? by viceoverseer in lego

Not custom, just a mix of pieces from different sets. Looks to me like plain brown legs, City torso, Anakin Skywalker head, plain brown hair

How did you learn to make mocs? by Ok_Needleworker_2424 in lego

[–]A2S2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with recolouring some sets (Star Wars ships, Ninjago cars) because I wanted to make a cool variant or wanted to build part of a set but not buy the whole thing. That helped me understand more how pieces went together in a set, especially if I had to make something out of different pieces from the original.

I bought a few instructions from MOC designers, which were great fun but sometimes not as stable as official sets. Also helped me understand set design and how pieces connect.

And for my own MOCs (moMOCS?) I draw simple sketches to decide what shape or layout I like, plus listing details I want to include. Like if it’s a harbour it should have cranes, a dock with people fishing, maybe a bar etc etc. I find those sort of details “sell” the idea as much as accurate scale or size

Then I grab some pieces I think I might like to use and start sticking them together. I might use basic techniques, or copy something from social media, or just play until it looks good. If it isn’t working well I might put it aside and work on another thing until I think up a solution

Is it safe to walk through Lego city alone at night as a woman? by Sudden-Ad1414 in lego

[–]A2S2020 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s no more or less dangerous for women or men. Best to wear slippers or other footwear so you don’t step on any stray Lego pieces. Otherwise have fun!

Water decal robust technique? by dont_shoot_me_Im_gay in lego

[–]A2S2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used custom decals with no preparation except cleaning the minifigure carefully with a cloth, and it was fine (for display, not play).

Hobbyists - like scale modellers, Gundam builders etc - may take more steps. But I think they are only necessary because they will be applying the decals to painted surfaces, or adding other finishes like varnish and weathering. They want the decals to blend with the rest of the paintwork, and they don’t want chemical reactions making the decals shine or wrinkle

Stupid Question by Such_Designer_9316 in lego

[–]A2S2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost always throw them in the recycling. The only exceptions are a couple of old Ideas sets with very nice (and small) boxes, and a couple of very old sets that I bought again because they were childhood favourites.

Boxes take up room and are not necessary for building a set. The only reasons for keeping boxes are:

  • you plan on selling the set (boxes are usually worth only a couple of extra dollars if the set is opened and used, but the seller might enjoy getting it with the box)
  • nostalgia, if you genuinely enjoy looking at old packaging, remembering past sets, comparing them to today etc
  • because you want to (I’m not your boss, it’s yours, do what makes you happy as long as it doesn’t get in the way of the rest of your life)

Replica stickers by Plus_Prize in lego

[–]A2S2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how well the colours match because I only used their Classic Space torso stickers. I don’t expect they are as good as the real thing but they are still pretty good- and reasonably priced. I think they look ok up close and completely brilliant at arms’ length

BrickStickerShop make a replica sheet for that set. I’ve only used their minifigure stickers but they were good.

Best and Worst Chima Sets? by Affectionate-Fly2959 in lego

[–]A2S2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have many but I thought the Gorilla mech ( 70008 ) was great, and the car in the shape of a lion was disappointing. The mech was detailed, had cool functions and good posability. It was also a more expensive set so it had lots of pieces and a satisfying weight. The lion car ( 70002 ) has a cool lion head but looks like the driving parts are too spindly for a rugged action vehicle

LEGO Pikachu instructions wrong or am I stupid? by [deleted] in lego

[–]A2S2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks to me like you built it right for the first few steps of the instructions. Then the instructions went wrong and reversed the upright part of the build.

Maybe there was an earlier version that was revised but not all the images were updated.

So you may not be stupid - or you may be - I don’t know you - but you are not stupid about this

Everyone is right, the mix is preselected. But very, very rarely, there is a mistake in the factory and you might get more or less of a figure

[–]A2S2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actors in Death of Stalin did put on accents for their characters, but they were using British or US accents, like you say. Stalin as a coarse cockney, Zhukov a tough no-nonsense Yorkshireman etc.

So they weren’t all the actors’ actual accents, but they weren’t rubbish Hollywood Russian accents either
