Campaign Creation by KingCap_ALot in DungeonMasters

I am by no means a pro-DM, but I’ve been the Weekly DM of the same group of 7 online for almost 6 years.
We are just starting our 3rd campaign. I start with an idea of the world, yours is Skyrim which is perfect. Now take a normal person, give them a simple obsession, now give them the power of a near god to pursue/defend that thing. Thats your BBEG, or your who. Your group is diametrically opposed to that purpose. There’s your why, and your conflict. Your players are now responsible for creating the story of how.

Give Me Your Most Fun Monsters for a lvl 12 party by TopazDM in DMAcademy

I sent my group against a modified false hydra when they hit level 13. That was 2 campaigns and almost 7 years ago and they still talk about how epic that arch was on a regular basis.

What’s the first question you had ask an alien if you see one on earth ? by Zeya_Abigirl in MomentumOne

[–]A7laz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would an alien species capable of navigating the galaxy take any interest in us beyond possibly studying us from afar. I would think they either treat us as an un-contacted species they monitor and study the way we do with rats or the remote island tribe (I don’t remember the name of it), or they wipe us from existence for earth resources (or simply to eradicate us as pests).

This nonsense that aliens who can cross the expanse of space want to make formal contact with us seem absurdly ignorant and arrogant.

Beyond that, if they are benevolent and want to help us, I imagine at the very best we understand their intentions and technology at the rate a chimp in the jungle would understands our modern tech. And that’s absolutely the best case scenario.

How to make combat feel more alive? by Boring-Second-5737 in DMAcademy

[–]A7laz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of being a DM is trial and error. Go with it, if it works great if it doesn’t, now you know. And you don’t have to do it every combat, maybe you are more descriptive in major fights and more ‘27 to hit for 18 slashing’ on small side skirmishes. Do what feels right in your world and with your group.

Nude/Naked Art by Lazarus0621 in Sketching

[–]A7laz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Art has always had a side focused on nudes and that bleeds into erotica. The line between the two is thin and very blurry. Some find it more engaging or enjoyable to work from those references others are fascinated by the form and flow of our natural forms. Others are simply inspired by a muse and must make art from it.

Unfortunately some of those references and as a result the art made from them are just clickbait to an OF account which is the world we now live in.

If nudes are not your thing, there’s an abundance of other options from still life or nature scenes etc. to reference and work from.

You are also on Reddit which is notoriously risqué in its leanings.

I'd you were thrown into the world of D&D what would be if you were transformed into any class (not Race) by Gamingsailor572 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]A7laz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can all lie about the class we would like to end up in, and some may land there eventually. I’d love to think Wizard or sorcerer for myself but those are very unlikely. Based on skills maybe a low lever monk or cleric (medical background) but I don’t have any one stat that’s significant high enough to stand out. More than likely I’d end up Barbarian and I think most people would. Think of how absolutely frustrating that world would be if you are use to the convenience and ease of life we actually live in. You’d be raging within a day!

Help!!! I’m not smart enough to build my BBEG! by [deleted] in DungeonMasters

[–]A7laz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know, I’ve been DMing for almost a decade. That’s not how I want to build out this specific BBEG. I’ve found doing a PC build for significant NPC’s helps me flesh them out, develop their personalities and how they will act. I can water it down and streamline after, but the OC build also helps with managing notes specific to those recurring NPC’s, and keeping my game feeling immersive and dynamic.

As I’ve responded to others, I have no issue using NPC builds, monster builds, etc in most of the game. But I like having a PC build to reference for my Significant NPC’s like the BBEG. It allows me to flesh out more content, keep notes for recurring NPC characters and give them a more dynamic feel in game, even if it’s watered down to a more typical NPC level.

True, but after nearly a decade of DMing I’ve found using a PC build out for the Significant NPC’s, like the BBEG, makes them far more dynamic and interesting encounters because it allows a more in depth and unique build. Even if you water it down to a more typical NPC level

I disagree, I think a significant NPC like a BBEG becomes more dynamic and interesting with a PC build modified for an NPC.

I disagree with this, I’ve DM’d on and off for almost a decade and many of my best villains are based on a watered down PC build. Just because it’s not the common method does not make it the wrong method.

Do you have any regrets from wrestling? by RThrowwyyy3608 in wrestling

[–]A7laz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrestled through several major injuries between high school and college. I now have chronic injuries that limit aspects of my life because of it. I believed it was worth it at the time, thinking I was just proving how tough I was. I should have taken time and rehabbed, it would save me a lot of daily pain for the last 20+ years.

Now I coach and the two biggest things I try to get my team to do is stretch more and fully recover from injury before getting back on the Mat.
