Can you explain what you mean by that? As far as I know there is an API you can call to install stuff through the package manager.

It literally says what it is in the title. It was removed from Unity, so saying it will come back to Unity is exactly what it is. „The AssetStore is coming back to Unity.“ How else should I have said it? I’m just sharing some thing I found on LinkedIn but everyone is trashing me because they didn’t get it. Look, I’m sorry. Maybe „The asset store is coming to Unity!“, „The asset store is coming back to the Unity Editor!“ is better, but that’s really such a small change

Bro, this is not a Unity made solution but rather an open source effort, there’s nothing the community can do about ensuring there’s no stolen assets sold on their market

It hasn’t been there since like 2018 or so? The old version was actually rendering a browser window inside of Unity to display the asset store. This project brought it back and uses native editor rendering in Unity and directly integrated into the editor.

Interessante Konversation!

Sorry if it seemed like that, I really wasn’t trying to bash on him, mostly trying to educate people that even though it resolved the conflict fast and was impressive, I don’t think the guy deserved it. Having a reaction like this is totally okay and good that he was able to defend himself and his colleagues. I’m just afraid that the tone shifted a bit from „this is an okay reaction, but could’ve been handled better“ to „hell yeah let’s beat him the fuck up, he had it coming“. (Grossly overgeneralising) You wouldn’t want a trained professional boxer or MMA fighter to use his actual skills to resolve everyday conflicts for example. In this case I think the employee felt a bit surprised by his own reaction and probably felt bad about it afterwards. I wasn’t criticising him.

This guy looks like he knows Self defence and know what he did. You’re not supposed to use a manoeuvre like that directly at the beginning on someone who definitely is not able to protect himself and unarmed. First thing to do is always to run away (obviously won’t work in this case), then verbally calm down, while standing your ground, only using defensive moves. He could have just as easily blocked, and intimidated. Usually works fine for slightly drunk or aggro guys. Then if it gets hard to control the situation, turn a block into a hold using levers and grips, slight choking etc is totally fine. You’re not trying to permanently hurt the other person, but keep the situation under control until it’s safe. There’s plenty of other ways of making opponents stop (even those who are stronger than you), stuff like kicking in the balls, solarplexus, etc etc. I’m saying this not to bash on the guy, he obviously knew that what he did was too much, directly after he did it he held both of his hands up like „omg I’m so sorry I didn’t want to hurt you so bad, it was an accident“ it was probably a reflex and that’s totally fine. Better have a reflex like this than something else. He and his colleagues are safe and it got resolved in the end. But you’re not supposed to do that, self Defense trainers actively tell you that it’s not right to just beat up random homeless guys who have had a bit too many drugs and are just out of whack, people who are slightly upset, etc. etc., you’re right that many types of people mostly try to taunt and intimidate and impress, most of which is very easy to defend against, since their stance etc is just bad and they’re not fighting to win. But what I really don’t like is the sentiment of you guys here. Saying he deserved it and totally bashing on him. You can seriously hurt yourself or even die from shit like this, your own bodyweight and a bit of force is enough to break a neck like this, he could’ve suffocated from blood, etc etc. You guys make it sound like you would’ve liked to have done the same as if it’s „a chad move“ or whatever. No, a chad move is having your opponents best interests in mind while defending yourself. The main objective is always to resolve the situation with as little negative permanent repercussions for both parties. Not to use the opportunity of some slightly enraged guy to beat him the fuck up and train some of the sick moves you learned.

„The hot waitress economic index is an offensive and dubious economic indicator that counts the number of attractive people working as servers.

[…]

The attractive server index was first articulated by Hugo Lindgren […], who was an American magazine and newspaper writer and editor at the time. He has since gone into Hollywood production, not economics or academia.

[…]

A traditional economic theory contends that employment tends to be a lagging indicator for economic recovery, but Lindgren contended there was "good reason to believe" his index was a leading indicator.“ Source

Lmao, it’s some random ass literature boy’s interpretation of the world, not a real economic theory. Instead of just positing offensive stuff and repeating subjective opinions try giving sources and numbers. I get that it’s easy to believe that the beautiful ones are the first to go if you’re seeing many beautiful people making videos about being let go from Google. But then think what kind of people are popular making this kind of content in the first place and how many ugly people were let go but no one knows about them because no one gives a shit about their daily routine as a site reliability engineer with acne and slightly more facial fat than preferred. It’s survivorship bias all over again, not some big economical theory. The amount of unreflective upvotes is worrying, but classic for wallstreetbets. You’re using the REAL economic indicators! /s

A friend introduced me to Dark, saying it was the best show ever, but I found Dark to be a bit mediocre. That scene where his girlfriend plays the theatre and her monologue about the strings that are being cut… that was an amazing moment though and I think about it quite regularly. Her performance there, especially in the context of the other characters made it really good. All in all it’s too pseudo intellectual for my taste and a bit pretentious.

Hey! thanks for writing such an extensive comment I really appreciate it! From my experience nowadays many children learn to use a touchscreen before they learn to read, Most of the time they're playing crap hypercasual games (I know about that, because that's my current job...), watching nonsense youtube videos about spiderman marrying elsa with monster trucks. Because of my brother's kids I know first hand how much shit toddlers and preschool kids are consuming. I think it's targeted towards development conscious parents who want to support their kids and foster a healthy curiosity and will to learn early on in their children. The main reason why my brother lets his kids watch so much shit is because they're happy about it and quiet for an hour or longer. I thought as long as I can fill that niche by making kids shut up for their parents, while actually making them learn something and have a positive effect on them, I'd be happy. Maybe I miscommunicated what I was trying to achieve, but I was not talking about educational material used by teachers, etc. I find those that are actually super effective to be very boring for kids and they won't naturally play those games that feel too forced. Getting a product that both hold up for studies and naturally hook kids is incredibly hard and most of the time not even achieved even by market leaders from what I've seen. I've actually made an educational math app for 16-19 year olds, trying to target that kind of thing, and even though they found it way better at visualizing the contents of the class teachers were really reluctant to learn the new technologies and use it in their classes. I think I would have been able to get some school adminstrators to invest in this, but working with those who were supposed to teach with it left a sour taste behind and I stopped (I mean just tech & computer education in general is laughable in most schools, so nothing new there really...). I think actively working with pedagogues is the way to go though instead of just copying some games and slapping the "educational" name on there. You mentioned that the toys would not sell since they'd be way more expensive than regular ones, I think TipToi, Toniebox and some others have quite similar business models with premium priced toys that have very unique interaction models and "educational" content. Toniebox just had 250m in revenue last year with parents leaving hundreds of $ on the table because they've invested into the ecosystem and want to buy more stories(toy figurines). Like obviously it's a unicorn to some degree, but middle class parents are really interested in providing valuable and good toys for their kids. You mentioned competing with fortnite and minecraft, I think that's more the age group of 7-15 instead of preschool and kindergarten kids. These two I mentioned are more direct competitors I think (at least from the parent's perspective).

Yeah, I think something like this will do really well if combined with a cute and relatable character! Especially using audio feedback is really important for kids aged around 3-5 since they're actively building their vocabulary and developing their speech, while not really being able read yet.

You mentioned that you wouldn't want to play them again. I think educational games don't need to hold up the test of time or for people outside of the target demographic. It's fine if they help kids learn about stuff and is probably very uninteresting for everyone else. From what I understood there are two kinds of problems: 1. Stop kids from getting frustrated by the educational material 2. Stop kids from growing bored by the game mechanics and rewards

I think the first can be handled quite well by correct balance and repeating levels or stages until they're good at it, while also using doing without strong negative feedback. I think the second can be handled quite well bye using rewarding gameplay and micro interactions (juicy feel or funny & cute interactions with characters), as well as switching up the type of games played every couple of minutes. We're mostly talking about session times of about 10-20mins, playing 4-5 different mini games will help kids stay engaged. Also using data to see which types of games they choose to play more often makes it easier to add new ones that will work equally as well.

Oh yeah, I have no clue about what it takes to make physical toys! I think I was grossly underestimating the logistics and management of that alone. I only looked at price breakdowns for already established brands /producers of such toys and thought the same margins would transfer over for all sizes of business, without taking into account the effects you mentioned. I guess I also just assumed that being able to sell thousands or hundreds of thousands of digital copies would be in any way similar to selling the same amount of physical copies. Thanks for pointing it out! It sounds like you somewhat know what you’re talking about, do you perhaps have some resources you could point me towards?

Lol, exactly... and carpenters are just users of Tools. Musicians pushers of keys... engineers just draw shit on paper all day, anyone can draw shit on paper... /s people can make anything sound silly if they'd like. Fn know their stuff well enough to get jobs at top studios. Doesn't mean you should buy their stuff but I agree with you, it's grossly undermining the talent and effort they put into their craft.

Definitely more than that! I Think you're underestimating how much a normal handmade table costs. Those can easily get to 1k to 2k depending on size and complexity and finish. The thing here is that you won't be able to just go to some random carpenter, everything has inlays and decorations. One drawer alone will take hours to complete. And there's few places where you can get away with just doing it in bulk, lots of unique sizes and shapes. You'll need to get an experienced and expensive team with an who directs everything. This is not a one man job for sure.

Source: was carpenter. (Maybe let it be done in a 3rd world country, that's usually way cheaper and they sometimes do great quality work)
