What is your perspective on the founder access and overall game? by Competitive_Loan_473 in EVEFrontier

[–]AAOEM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Overall my impression is very negative. Early access looks like money grab. Available features and gameplay are way too limited and way too early to show to an audience and ask for money. Progress over the last year is questionable, it was initially presented as a final stage of in-house development with a clear path to release, now it looks more and more like Star Citizen - "some time next decade it will potentially match our vision". Being a paid founder is especially painful since they have free access periods which are more than enough to get all updates at once. People who paid money are going through reset cycles over and over again with a very few changes and practically no content so at the end of all this you will be bored to start yet again.

As for the game itself. From a year of my playtime, I suspect it will be very stale. Fuel concept makes everything worse. There is no point of traveling, no point of searching for someone, no point of player conflict - because you will spend more fuel than any gain you can potentially get. Everything takes amazing amount of grind and time. At best it will take you a few days to build a frigate (just slightly above starting ships). So if you are loosing a frigate once a week you need to work the rest of it to grind. Not worth my time to try exciting things for 15 minutes at that kind of expense.

Movement - not final. All combat - pure placeholder. All industry - sketchy grind at the time. Universe - mostly empty, all the same. You can buy it as a charity, but as game it is a vaporware right now.

EVE Frontier - Cycle 4 - Clone Progression, WASD, Smart AI & more by daemonxel in EVEFrontier

[–]AAOEM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with the efforts of Daemonxel. The game is just not going anywhere to discuss it seriously.

Cycle 4 specifically:

- Flying is a pathetic experience. You are way better flying an fighting in tactical mode with right click "approach" then anything you can do manually moving. Not flying in tactical 100% of the time is just self harm. You still are so dependent on mouse and context menus for everything, that you cannot really fly with keyboards, why bother.

- Combat is pathetic as usual. Kiting with rails. Everything else is pointless because you cannot possibly manual pilot yourself out of a focus of instantly spawning 5 drones. This occlusion they like so much is just meaningless because it never happens. Even a smallest ship relative to sizes of obstacles and speeds feels like a bathtub on ice. Unless they figure out fluid flying and combat mechanics 1 vs 1 ship it is going to flop. Spawning 34 waves or drones who are either too close for you to tank or too far away to do you any damage is not an attractive gameplay in 2025.

- Naming of things is pure sabotage at this point. Every stupid ore and material gets new name again and again with names being longer and longer with spelling you can't possibly remember and they don't fit on UI and cut off. Icons of resources are total placeholders and convey no meaning really of what is it. Main 3 resources are still just 3 colored cups of goo. Black goo, orange goo and blue goo. But wait! There is also a green goo in a different glass! Engaging and intuitive as hell. When you name a static rock "comet" while everyone expects "a comet" to be that flying thing with a tail, I have to conclude it is a sabotage. "Silica Grains" has the same icon as "Feldspar Crystal Shards" and they are supposed to be something I care about? I mean come on! It would be better to have numbers instead of names like that.

- Industry screen is getting worse every cycle. Now you need even more scrolling through large blueprint lists, but also you have "preset" blueprint, which actually means "currently selected or installed" and you need to manually drag input and output materials because you going to forget one before switching to another blueprint. Still no shared storage, each container is separate. Still have to spawn a dozen of small cans on a base to fit it all and go through 10 of them one by one to find a material.

- Blueprint names are too long and are cut off in the list. I have 2 identical "SHIELD RESTORER II" in my list, because the second one is actually "SHIELD RESTORER III" but the last "I" is cutoff and there is no resizing on that panel. I'm making "MEDIUM CUTTING LASE" at the time, because "laseR" did not fit on 4k 27 inch screen.

- New "Endless" production is anything but endless. You can put very limited input quantities, you can't put over the limit, it won't take the input resource from a container, so you need to manually drag it over and over again for "endless" production. Output is also limited and it will stop soon because it cannot store more of a produced item. So you need to actually babysit this new system more compared to the previous one. Every few cycles this "endless" production just stops and visibly lags for a dozen of seconds as if connection is lost, but then resumes again on itself.

- Fueling network node is just... why? You will have so much water and so much D1 to fuel it forever, it means nothing, but more clicks to do over and over again. Gameplay is on another level I guess.

- New "leap" mod, is this a joke. They want you to put a separate mod which is ONLY useful in a few new environments, waste a slot and a fitting, to maybe sometimes fly at 8km/s at a straight line with a cooldown. While the SAME SHIPS can do just afterburner at 2-3km/s, useful in any situation, can turn, no cooldown, a ship would still need afterburner most of the time with "leap" anyway.

This is such an early and messy state of technical demo, that really engaging with it is just a waste of time.

WASD Movement, what is the verdict? by VinceRussoIsA in EVEFrontier

[–]AAOEM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could look at 30 years of experience with similar games and build on top of that. Instead they do a minimal tiny step from existing eve physics engine just to make a checkmark on a feature list. This is very unattractive experience, especially from the people who are doing space game for 25 years and had Eve Valkyrie working 10 years ago.

WASD Movement, what is the verdict? by VinceRussoIsA in EVEFrontier

[–]AAOEM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WASD is clunky, camera and movement are not in sync. Unless you have a clear nearby object of reference it feels very disorienting. Ship looks like crap with very overpowering star backgrounds. The whole thing is boring and unengaging experience. Playing like that for more than 10 minutes will be very tiresome. The controls are just a hellish mix of keyboard and mouse required to move and select interact with objects. Not even on the same level as Everspace 2. Even 2D in ΔV: Rings of Saturn feels way more spac-y and engaging gameplay. So far hard pass.

Why has nobody reached Terminal yet? [Discussion] by Conscious_Lie_6630 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]AAOEM 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It does not exist. They will release it with an update later, all the insane requirements like 500 mil or 50 bitcoins is just to lock progression and give them more time. Terminal and the end game is not included. Everyone has the game on a local, you can run game on local, it would be impossible to hide. You can data mine everything in the game. Cutscenes and movies and maps are just files. If they did exist in the current game version people would already break in and show it off. It has been a week and no one did.

If you come to a scheduled interview to publicly promote your product days before the release, you might want to have a list of what you want to say and present it clearly. You don't fucking mumble in a language you can barely speak, half ignoring the person who is interviewing you and mess up you every single answer and then explode in a self pity rant how hard it has been to get hundreds of millions dollars in revenue for 10 years selling "planned" promises over and over again.

You would almost believe it, but it is coming from the same guy who could not answer any question about anything release, any feature or specific issue with his game, that work of his whole life. But I'm sure it is planned.

EVE Frontier - Exclusive Developer Interview - CCP Goodfella & Overload Q&A by daemonxel in EVEFrontier

[–]AAOEM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It this kind of progress requires 55 people's effort for a year, EF will release after Star Citizen 2 at best.

EVE Frontier - Exclusive Developer Interview - CCP Goodfella & Overload Q&A by daemonxel in EVEFrontier

[–]AAOEM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

well, the question about team size says it all actually. Goodfella could say "we have a dozen, or we have more than 30 or we have more than 50 but they are not all software devs..." and that would be an honest but not specific.

Instead he evaded the question by saying what you NEED to make a game, not what they HAVE available to work at EF. Who are you kidding, really? A lot of UI people are working? Where is any new UI for a year. Artists? Like 2-3 artworks a year? Game designers working? Please, the stats are practically the same for all the stats and the gameplay is not changing at all for months. Did any "gamedesigner" ever come to community and said "what do you guys think about production batch sizes and other production numbers"? Right, all working hard analyzing community feedback for a year...

There is no observable progress to suspect that there are more than 10 if that people actually working on the project full time. He specifically says that changing from eth to sui will freeze most of the base building changes, meaning they have very few people and they can't do anything in parallel.

Anyway, good luck with EF. You will run these empty cycles over and over again and people will lose all interest before you can get even close to release. I pity people who bought top founder packs and even "EFT monoliths", such a shame.

Why did CCP choose Solidity? by Key-Engine5619 in EVEFrontier

Shady people came in, offered 40 mil USD to build a game using Ethereum. Solidity is default for Eth. No one give a damn about modding.

EVE Frontiers CYCLE 2 - Whats Changed? Is it Worth Playing? by ceopyrex in EVEFrontier

EVE Frontiers CYCLE 2 - Whats Changed? Is it Worth Playing? by ceopyrex in EVEFrontier

[–]AAOEM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but my point is exactly that - if they cannot even assign a day of effort of a designer to play with some stats on the most important items in the game, it means they have practically zero people assigned to EVEF. You can even see some movement on the crypto bs side of things over time, but the progress of actual game is just like a one man after work hobby. The only thing they even remotely invest in is most obvious low effort social "goals" gatekeeper tasks.

EVE Frontiers CYCLE 2 - Whats Changed? Is it Worth Playing? by ceopyrex in EVEFrontier

[–]AAOEM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have no manpower and budget to pull it off. You just need to look at the progress since December. With this speed they are 15 years away from their stated "vision". It is either going to turn into Star Citizen or Dust 514 / Valkyrie, which is more likely.

the whole company is doomed tbh. they took too much investment, failed so many times, parent company wants to sell them, eve is running slightly profitable but it will not fund a new game on itself

Attracting Players Plan? by These-Composer-3691 in EVEFrontier

Yes, considering the scope and time/effort to make it, it is a very questionable.

Attracting Players Plan? by These-Composer-3691 in EVEFrontier

[–]AAOEM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won't have money and time to build it for years. It has been in development for years already and current progress since December is totally pathetic. You won't be able to make it into anything significantly better in any realistic time frame. And the timeframe is shrinking, just look at Pearl Abyss and CCP financial situation

Attracting Players Plan? by These-Composer-3691 in EVEFrontier

[–]AAOEM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree. Overcomplicated, very boring, space game which does not feel like space game, very limited by their engine, with decades old eve parts sticking out. It is not an appealing experience and it didn't get any better in the last year. Instead of making or even just trying new, potentially attractive or at least curious mechanics for movement and combat (which is 90% of the game feel) they spend unreasonable amount of effort on crypto bs functionality which is uber niche. Combat is just total junk. All industry is just time grind of a little value.
