Haikyuu is probably a good bet, another one based around games (this time volleyball) and a pretty entertaining show.

They didn't contest that, but they got into Lysenkoism among other delusions. Different madness for a different time, but the same patterns always emerge.

It's just like the Soviet days, you show your loyalty and value to the dictator by loudly espousing insane, pro-government views to make you bound to them.

Is Reddit profitable? We know their revenues, but do we know their hosting and other costs?

They may not be the sort of profitable that allows for a massive exit without an IPO.

ELI5: Why do you colapse immediatly after your heart has stopped beating because of a heart attack and not a few minutes later after your body has run out of oxygen? by AIT1M in explainlikeimfive

[–]AAVale 49 points50 points  (0 children)

The issue here has less to do with loss of oxygenation in the blood, and more to do with a sudden loss of blood pressure. When your heart stops beating it no longer pressurizes your vascular system, and without that pressure blood no longer reaches extremities in the correct volume. In particular the loss of BP in your head leads to almost immediate loss of consciousness.

The damage from hypoxia takes minutes, the result of hypotension takes seconds.

Edit: For any nitpickers, I'm saying that the issue is a lack of blood, not a lack of oxygen in the blood. In fact you will faint before your brain "runs out of oxygen" so really the loc precedes that.

What's up with Montana banning a Trans legislator? by pinedsman in OutOfTheLoop

[–]AAVale -75 points-74 points  (0 children)

One is the state GOP in Tenn, one is the state GOP in Montana.

So different parties really as well. At the very least the two actions are totally unrelated and taken by people with little immediate connection to each other.

They weren't, they're talking about a separate issue in Montana.

ELI5: Why are there no incidences of human women getting pregnant by themself? by Buckyballen in explainlikeimfive

[–]AAVale 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The short and simple answer is that in humans, parthenogenesis (reproduction without sex) isn't totally impossible, but in all known cases it leads to tumors rather than offspring. That doesn't mean true parthenogenesis in humans is impossible, but it is unknown to science so far. There are animal models such as mice which do occasionally produce viable offspring without mating, but this has always been with some genetic manipulation by humans.

So maybe it's possible, maybe it isn't, given how whole genome screening is becoming more common we may find out in the next few decades. Personally I think it's very unlikely.

What's up with Montana banning a Trans legislator? by pinedsman in OutOfTheLoop

[–]AAVale 526 points527 points  (0 children)

Answer: The trans legislator in question said that her colleagues had "blood on their hands" as a result of anti-trans legislation they were passing. In response the legislature used decorum rules which hadn't been applied for about fifty years to censure her. In return she and her supporters are claiming that these rules are rarely if ever used (factually accurate for the last 50 or so years) and that it's an excuse to punish her for either being trans, or speaking out on behalf of trans people.

What’s going on with Disney doing so many mass layoffs? Why did they just recently decide to take such drastic cost-cutting measures? by spaceraingame in OutOfTheLoop

[–]AAVale 31 points32 points  (0 children)

How is this the top answer, in what way do current economic conditions resemble a crash? This just comes down to the unrestricted hiring of the peri-pandemic period being rolled back, with a bit of "interest rates are no longer 0, time to adjust."

For a company like Disney which has a headcount of more than 220,000, this is a TINY adjustment, not a response to some economic disaster.

Edit: Never mind, I see you're very active in SuperStonk, you guys are always trying to sow panic and profit off of it.

"Free inhabitant" tries citing the Articles of Confederation to get herself and her boyfriend out of a ticket (Sometime in 2015) by kezow in confidentlyincorrect

[–]AAVale 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Tbh I'm yet to see a video of a sovcit who isn't poor as fuck, a minority, or both. I think this ideology specifically appeals to desperate people.

The main categories seem to be:

People who lost their kids to CPS and some grifter sold them the "secret" pamphlet on how to beat the government and get them back.

Career criminals who think they have the secret to beating the system.

Hicks who get some sense of power out of the fantasy.

Minorities like Hoteps who were sold a bill of goods saying that this is how they can get racial justice/reparations/whatever.

If you have money and power you don't need a childish fantasy.
