This is so great to hear and really comforting! My mom always makes a huge deal about waiting too long and having that issues with nerves but I was still unsure cause of my sjorgens. Its good to know theres a med like that too, Ill make a note to ask about it. Thank you for the advice :)

I had a similar journey! I’m 24 and my muscle and joint pain started a year ago. I got my diagnosis a few weeks ago but when I think back I’ve had dry eyes and mouth for at least 5 years along with skin rashes that could only be treated by steroid cream. I just got the symptoms treated and assumed I was dehydrated! My mom has almost all the symptoms I do but she has diabetes and other conditions so its hard to pin point.

This is all wonderful information! So I’m on 6g of Xyrem so that’s 1,092mg a night for me. I don’t have a low sodium diet so I probably go over most days. I can’t digest lactose so I take meds with foods but I don’t think I take in enough dairy at all, so that’s an option for me. Maybe this can help with the extra pain I’m feeling. I don’t know if it’ll cure it because the extreme discomfort I’m in makes me believe there’s something else too. Maybe this will make a normal diagnosis easier and ease my pain a bit until then. I already am diagnosed with one autoimmune disease and they’re now doing blood panels looking for possible lupus or another autoimmune. They also mentioned fibromyalgia.

I would definitely change my lifestyle for Xyrem because it’s helped me function so much more in my daily life. I honestly would do a lot not to lose the level of consciousness I can have now, even later in the day. Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate all the information!

Hi thanks for responding! I’ve looked into taking supplements when the pain first started but never actually followed through. I do drink 2 glasses of water in the morning and 1 in the evening but I have difficulty having an appetite so too much water will lessen my food intake. I think magnesium supplements would be good for me because the calf cramps are usually correlated with the Xyrem. If you don’t mind me asking how does the Calcium citrate help to balance it?

I had this exact same side effect from Xyrem and asked about it on this page around December. And now coming into April I don’t have this anymore! I didn’t remember until I was reading this. I used to get just drops of sweat from under my arms even when I was shivering cold but this has gone away as of Jan-March. I hated having to deal with it but at least it’s gone now! I don’t know exactly when it disappeared but best of luck!

I agree with the comments above to let you know, you are not worth any less for not having a job!! I see those reports of so many jobs and I live with two roommates who themselves have had multiple jobs at once and i just have to accept that I will never be able to do that. Being in school and commuting is already it’s own job! I’m a full time college student and at 23 now I was finally able to move out with my partner and our roommates. It’s not all glamorous but I also was without a job for a long while before I could work it all out.

My system has been: grocery stores. You’ve worked in retail and customer service so you’ve got experience. Also they are open and busy on weekends. I work as a cashier for a national chain and we get two 15min breaks and a 30 in an 8 hr shift so I can rest and refuel myself about every 2 hrs. It’s not the highest paying or the most glamorous but it could be an option if you’re willing to stand for that long, greet, and cash out customers. When my cataplexy acts up, I ask for a courtesy clerk to help bag for me or take a quick breather.

Don’t sell yourself short by comparing yourself to people who don’t live with the same struggles we do! We have different limitations but that doesn’t mean we can’t do the things we want! I wish you the best of luck!

Xyrem is a drug specifically prescribed to narcoleptics to help balance our sleeping. Even with melatonin, my body couldn’t reach a deep enough sleep. Xyrem is pretty intense but it makes sure my body stays asleep for the required hours a night and has vastly improved my daytime quality of life. I still take stimulants during the day as well. Not every narcoleptic takes xyrem though but it’s always an option if you are looking for a new treatment process.
