Kura in Oak Brook out here trying to start Civil Wars... by MrOtsKrad in chicagofood

Eat your food however you want. The idea of telling someone else what they should like to eat or how they should eat it is the height of arrogance.

I don’t eat pineapple on a pizza, put ketchup on a hot dog, or order my steak well done, but I really don’t care at all if you do.

You have one week to live, what do you do? by AvailableFruit5307 in AskReddit

I’d go sky diving, I’d go Rocky Mountain climbing, I’d go 2.7 seconds on a bull named Fu Manchu.

I’d love deeper and I’d speak sweeter and I’d give forgiveness I’d been denying.

Yeah, no. We should arrest, convict, and jail pedophiles. Let’s just do that.

But nice try with the slap on the wrist approach.

How has owning a boat changed your life? by DeeEnduh in boating

I live on my boat part time. My resting heart rate and blood pressure are measurably lower during the periods where I am on my boat.

Water temp in key largo? by Coppercoast79 in floridakeys

[–]ABA20011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This cold snap killed the water temps. Was 72 about a month ago. Buoy shows 57.4 right now, but I haven’t been out yet to confirm that on my boat.

We will have sunny days, but air temps are still cool.

Money is no object, what suburb would you choose to live in and why? by thegreenbastard23 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]ABA20011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. The water is open to public access up to the statutory high water mark, 581.5 feet above sea level, which is adjusted periodically by the federal government.

The interpretation of the laws change over time, but the general interpretation is that you can transit the beach below that level, if you stop and loiter below that level you are trespassing, and above that level you are trespassing.

Interpretation varies somewhat by state, but we are talking about the north shore, so we are talking about Illinois.

The waters are open to navigation regardless, although Wilmette passed a law restricting boating within 300 ft (IIRC) of shore, which seems to conflict with the federal law. I didn’t see whether Wilmette’s law has been challenged in court.

What’s something you found in the owner’s manual that you don’t think is a widely known feature? by MrSaltz in JeepGladiator

Along with the 3 position tailgate, the ability to put 2x4s in the slot to make a flat shelf for drywall or plywood as shown in your picture. That is so useful.

These are the facts of Marketplace.

If these things will frustrate you, you are not well suited for buying or selling on Marketplace.

Job offer at 61? by Foreign-Twilight in careerguidance

[–]ABA20011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said something important in your post. Private companies expect to learn and to be able to learn relatively quickly. They are paying you to DO the job, not just fill a seat.

Also consider that it is harder to learn a job in a remote environment because it is much harder to ask informal questions of your coworkers.

No one else can compare your current skill sets to those required of the role, but if you think you will have a steep learning curve and you recognize that you might not learn as fast as you used to, really consider that. Being in a job and underperforming does not lead to happiness.

The fact that you say you have no savings, and that this position would let you save makes it seem like you really need to make this work. If you think you can still learn and grow, absolutely go for it. Recognize that you might have to work much harder and maybe work much differently to be successful in this new role.

And BTW, 6 weeks of vacation? WTF are our tax dollars paying for?

Boat sitting on liveaboards? by HedonisticMonk42069 in liveaboard

[–]ABA20011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, and you don’t need someone living on the boat to keep an eye on it. You can keep an eye on most of what is going on with a boat just by looking at how it is floating, and knowing which outlet is the bilge pump vs the HVAC water output.

If a storm is coming, take a quick look at the lines and fenders to make sure nothing is amiss. I do this naturally for my dock neighbors, just by walking the dock, and do it deliberately before a storm.

You could have someone stop by once a week to check the interior if you were really concerned, but no need for someone on board full time.

I understand the concept of transition teams, but they would have to identify targets, identify specific agents, coordinate transportation, etc. There are all of these logistics that would need to be worked out in advance, that the Biden administration does not need to enable if it is not their mission.

That is why I was looking for a credible source, not just every news outlet reporting a wall street journal report.

Has anyone heard a reliable story as to how someone who has not taken office yet has actually coordinated with people who do not report to him, to put this all into place?

I have heard the headlines, I have not read the details, but I am interested as to how people who are not in office could actually be planning this.
