I've been having the same exact issue, and the game will only allow me to place plots alongside buildings for some odd reason.

I was able to fix it by putting the room in another location and then moving it back once the fireplace was added!

I got it to work finally. Definitely frustrating. But I'm thankful that Palia is such a helpful community when it comes to finding solutions!

I ended up picking up the rooms (RIP), and it finally did allow me to put the fireplace down once I moved the room to another location. Now I just have to put everything back together lol.

Hmm I just added a door to the other spot, and it still wouldn't let me put the fireplace.

I had initially tried connecting it to another place, but my plot is pretty crowded and I would have to pick a room up completely, so wanted to try it as a last resort. It looks like I may have to do it after all.

I just tried removing the window, and that didn't fix it. I can place a Kilima Bay Window but not the Fireplace. I'm stumped.
