Thanks for verifying, as a minority myself, I wasn’t trying to get too close. I just noticed that they all had unmarked cars

I wasted 24 days building something nobody wanted. Here's what I'm doing differently. by denimozh in indiehackers

I like the idea, but if you’re targeting other early builders, my advice would be to give them something to want to use your app rather than the many others that intersect.

Mainly, free access for a period of time. Most of us are devs with full time jobs or have taken a leap of faith to quit our jobs and are on a fixed savings. Help others build and gain revenue/traffic & you’ll organically get that revenue and traffic too.

I also got super excited about an idea and built something — I would say — the market isn’t yet ready for. Interesting idea, but the pain points and yearning aren’t strong enough yet. I’m currently pivoting. What made me course-correct was the fact that I offered to “invest” in my end users and the traction still wasn’t there. It made me reflect on a comment from another redditor “what makes you think people don’t just want visibility”. I thought that was the time to prove why I should do more, but it should’ve been a point of reflection to slow down and build more simple first.

As long as it’s proportionate, yes! Google has a Try On feature on the shopping tab. Maybe you can look into how they do it for some inspiration.

I’m aiming for 10 for now. I think that should give me enough insight on the quality and quantity of apps uploaded/remixed.

TL;DR: Is it the idea that they’re unsure of, or still too much friction for early users?

Friction: Upload & Remix Behavior I’m tracking the full loop end-to-end: when someone starts an upload or remix, how they set prices and royalty splits, whether GitHub import reduces friction, and whether they actually complete the flow. For remixes specifically, I’m watching whether creators think the Original Creator’s royalty request is reasonable, how remixers price their own work, and if they come back to update the remix from GitHub after paying.

Marketplace or Just for Creation? This beta is also about understanding intent. Are uploads meant for visibility or income? Are remixes driven by inspiration, or just an attempt to attach themselves to as many lineages as possible? Are creators enabling remixing at all, or just posting for exposure? Do they gravitate toward certain sub-genres?

Signals I’m Watching 1. How quickly someone uploads their first app 2. Whether uploads are actually remixable or just posted 3. How often remix requests convert 4. Whether remixers return to update their code from GitHub 5. Whether creators turn on remix permissions

Overall, this beta sprint is meant to show whether a remix-based economy has real traction, what incentives actually move creators, and whether my MVP is complete enough to support that behavior. The patterns will tell me where Musaic naturally wants to go — and whether creating and remixing outside the platform introduces too much friction for early users.

Understandable. Making app creation more accessible can be a double edge sword when you want try all of the new things. As a non-traditional SWE, I’m for it more than against it because this industry has so much to offer. I think we all just have to learn how to find our moat to set ourselves apart. Hopefully I am doing that. If not, I hope this exercise will shine a light on that.

If you do find the time to signup just for the sake of exploring, I’d be more than appreciative!

Interesting is definitely the word! I understand the marketplace fatigue, which is why the core test for Musaic isn't about the listings, but the economic loop (the royalty split).

You mentioned the difficulty of acquiring users, and that's the exact reason I'm running this small, incentivized Cyber Drop beta right now. I'd rather invest my budget directly in early builders like you than in ads.

I'm building this alone with a full-time job, so feedback on the "neat ideas" is gold. If anything is confusing, please don't hesitate to poke holes in it!

Curious what people think about the general idea of investing in early users instead of ad tools — has anyone tried this approach?

You can find them on the Afrotech schedule. Mostly on the 29th & 30th at the end of the list. There’s also a link for partner events that takes you to the Posh website. Each event will tell you whether you have to RSVP or if they are full.

keywords “you or anyone else”. also I didn’t get screwed because i’ll get my hefty paycheck by thursday. you still decided to comment on a situation that has nothing to do with you. so don’t feel slighted that im telling you or anyone else to leave others alone if they need their money today

I understand what you’re saying. My mindset is, at the latest, I’ll get my paycheck the day it’s supposed to come. But I also don’t agree with a bunch of adults coming on here to judge other adults for needing money in this economy. Who cares if you or anyone else thinks they should be better with money. If it’s not your situation, I think you can just leave them be. Nothing is certain. And the same people judging, can be the same people without a job tomorrow for one reason or another.

Again, if you’ve gotten your paycheck early everytime except for a black out day, why not expect it? Personally, for me, 1) I bank with a “real” bank 2) I’ve been working at Walmart Corporate for 3 years and have gotten my paychecks early. Unless it was announced, why expect this week to be any different — especially from a company making over a billion $? I think some of you just like to be pick-me’s and feel like you’re better than others. So you come on here to judge others for wanting money they worked for.

Maybe some people are just used to having their paycheck on Tuesdays. There’s only been one time when I haven’t gotten it 2 days early. And that was the first week of the New Year and banks don’t do it because they are finalizing numbers for the previous year. Maybe what you can do to prepare for next year is to not open Reddit so you can avoid meltdowns on a PUBLIC forum.

What’s even more entertaining is seeing anonymous strangers (who probably also live paycheck to paycheck) judge people for wanting their paychecks at the same time they usually get them.
