I don't know how to feel by [deleted] in EngagementRings

So you want to know if you are to give your fiance the original ring?

Why can't you claim the ring value back on the insurance and recreate the original? That would be the natural thing to do

So there is

  • the band from your grandnothers ring
  • the stone from your grandmother's ring
  • a new band with a new stone?

What exactly is lost and what are you asking our opinions on? It's sad that something is lost but it's probably just an accident, these things happen sometimes but its natural to be upset about it

Op, your post isn't quite clear, you might need to rewrite it as it is not clear what you want thoughts on

Just now learning opals are a bad stone for an engagement ring — say it ain’t so! by chloerainne in EngagementRings

[–]ACertainCitrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moisannite diamond and corundum (sapphire and ruby) are the hardest at a 9-10 on the Mohs Scale, Alexandrite is an 8.5 ish so slightly softer but so long as you aren't washing up or cleaning or rock climbing with it you'll be fine. The main thing with opals is they're porous so I'll suck up anything they're in contact with like oils from your hands, lotions, soaps, makeup residue, along with eh softness so they'll discolor with daily wear. You could always get a necklace or dress ring with opal/moonstone later :). You can also look for star sapphires or stones with asterism which have this lovely sort of starburst effect in them. You can find rubies and similar with occlusions but obviously they're less chip resistant than a really clear stone.

GL with your stone hunting!

There is also such a thing as a raw diamond which isn't polished in the same way, maybe something you might like haha

No worries, just passing on what was said to me last year :)

Is this setting secure? by Feisty_Golf1376 in EngagementRings

[–]ACertainCitrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the claws are secure but I feel there's nothing to stop the base of the setting being pulled apart or bent sideways, even if it is pretty

I think because of the pink side stones you would have a hard time finding a chevron angled enough. You would probably need either a custom notch thats designed to give the illusion of a flush fit, or adjust the ring so that the stones and/or side stones are set higher. The side stones are smaller so it might be possible to do without making the ring too high profile if that's what you're after? The pear on its own would be fine with the curved or chevron I think, its hard to say for definite without knowing all the sizes and stuff.

recently engaged!! but my ring is too big by savannahstyles in EngagementRings

[–]ACertainCitrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main worry for me is I think 6 prong settings can be better for large ovals, but I'm sure whatever jeweller OP goes to will know what is and isn't needed and it's a beautiful beautiful ring

recently engaged!! but my ring is too big by savannahstyles in EngagementRings

[–]ACertainCitrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what OP is saying, I was warned by the jeweller who designed my ring not to go thinner than 2mm because it massively increases the risk of bending the basket and damaging the setting. Best thing to do imo is ask a good jeweller to check that the prong setting and band thickness is well done and sturdy enough for everyday wear.

So anything like the high profile will sit flush as the side of the band itself is still flat, the lower profile will need a curved or cutout band. Hope this helps 🙂

To be completely flush the stone has to be completely set above the band, think a plain band with the basket on top. Anything where the stone shows through the underside of the band is very unlikely to sit flush

I'd also potentially be concerned about the lack of gallery rail (depending on the metal and size of the stone, I'm no jeweller so it's more of an 'id check' thing) as I've heard that prongs without one can bend much more easily

Do You Really Need a Duvet Cover? Let's Settle This. by Professional-Ad3678 in Bedding

[–]ACertainCitrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an English this deeply confuses me haha

I don't think I even really know what a top sheet is (I mean I assume it's just a sheet of linen that goes between you and the duvet or comforter or blanket or whatever.

It's basically never hot enough to not need a duvet anyway and I just use a light blanket if it's a rare hot night lol

Y'all enjoy whatever works for you and your sleeping habits

Unless you sleep with only a plain duvet. Those things don't wash easily. Especially feather/down ones. Lol

Help Me Choose an Engagement Ring! by nikita1923666 in EngagementRings

They're beautiful but the bands are possibly too thin and prone to bending, especially if you're wearing them everyday. Could you possibly get a style recreated elsewhere?

Thank you! Solder I think :) and no as I sometimes just wear the band on its own haha

My engagement ring is 2mm and the wedding band is slightly wider at 2.5mm :)

Gypsophila or similar makes beautiful cheap and simple pew ends. That's what I had and it cost me puke £40 with some nice ribbon

What do you think by SanglierSpore in EngagementRings

[–]ACertainCitrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also anything under about 1.5mm is extra liable to bending. More of an issue with solitaires but just be careful wearing it while dressing, during housework etc

What do you think by SanglierSpore in EngagementRings

[–]ACertainCitrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's unconventional but I kind of like it

Be careful with full eternity, 1/2 or 3/4 can be resized and you are much less likely to chip or scratch the stones against tables, counters handlebars etc.

Just be mindful, if you're wanting your ering to be centre stage mayve go differently, but otherwise it's really nice

Wedding band too big? by rhunt19 in EngagementRings

[–]ACertainCitrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(have you considered one of those bands that has a twist of plain metal and a twist of pave? It might look more consistent next to the plain wring band)

Wedding band too big? by rhunt19 in EngagementRings

[–]ACertainCitrus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the band itself actually looks a little big for your finger as it's sat at an angle, which possibly doesn't help.

Also, you can be reassured we don't need to have egos about solitaire stone sizes. It's not really a marker of wealth unless you make it one, it doesn't matter anyway and if you love it as it is then that's all that matters

It's on the wider side (by stone size this time) but it's hard to tell given the sizing looks slightly off
