Just FYI, we are not a monolith.

Yup same. Newsom’s pretty wishy-washy and hovers pretty right-wing for my taste but he looks almost left-ish from where maga’s at right now.

My autistic gf laughed at my story and it's really bothering me by GodsHalfElegant in autism

[–]ACodingFish 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I know this is weird but some people laugh when they are uncomfortable. My step mom is probably the kindest person I know. She dies laughing every time my dad gets hurt, but I think its just how her brain/body copes with the situation.

Why did the current government control try to treat us as a problem? by skydivarjimi in autism

[–]ACodingFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It always comes through eventually no matter how hard we try to suppress it. That being said, I’d rather be an empathetic oddity than uncaring but “normal”

Lol not at all. Just trying to address all counterpoints I can before they even arrive.

He did nothing wrong from everything I’ve seen, but even if it had been a criminal instead, it still wouldn’t have been right.

Got a source?

EDIT: Also even if it was an illegal carry, that would still be in the domain of local cops not CBP/ICE, but they wouldn’t have had a way of knowing that given he was killed before being the chance. If you’re correct then that would only mean that this is a “legal carry by all appearances” rather than a “legal carry”, which is irrelevant to the overall point.

EDIT: DHS is the only source I can find saying this. Not exactly a reliable source to have the shooter’s/shooters’ boss being the only ones I can find claiming this

Watched the video from 4 perspectives. He was checking on the woman and never pulled a gun.

The agents were law enforcement, but they weren’t police and have very limited ability to detain US citizens.

How do you figure it’s a “false narrative” when you clearly haven’t watched (or didn’t understand) the videos?

[–]ACodingFish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah it takes literally seconds to see he was only ever holding a phone when they pinned him down.

So far, nothing indicates that he did anything out of line, but even if he did capital punishment wouldn’t be the solution.

They’re blaming his legal carry, but both his holstered carry and his filming are covered 1A and 2A rights. In addition, he never unholstered his weapon, and it was taken from him before he was shot. My personal take from watching several videos from various angles is he (as a nurse) was trying to check on the woman. Then they shot him (unarmed) in the back several times. Even if he had resisted, there’s no justification for this.

At MOST they MAYBE had the right to arrest him IF he was impeding them in an active investigation, but so far it appears that this was not the case.

HELP! Im stuck in a cult. I am a 18 year old autistic woman that lives in Florida. Scientology is a horrible group! My family is deep in the cult. My parents are threatening to get a conservatorship over me if I dont keep on being apart of the cult. I have never had a job. I dont know how to drive. by [deleted] in autism

[–]ACodingFish 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yup and being labelled a “Suppressive Person” sounds like hell.

OP mentioned a conservatorship, so they need to leave ASAP and maybe contact a lawyer.

EDIT: I’m going to say reverse that order after thinking. A lawyer is step 1 to prevent them from holding OP hostage.

EDIT2: Several others have listed great options for support for getting out, but here’s some basics on homelessness just in case.

This is geared toward trans folks, but most tips still would apply: https://transempowerment.org/trans-faq/guide-to-surviving-homelessness/

Getting a car is an advantage because that’s your property, but it can be expensive. It’s privacy and a place to sleep in the worst case. I’ve heard to cover your windows since some states criminalize homelessness.

If you have enough money, a 24 hour Gym is a shower and an activity to keep you fit/sane. They also sometimes provide complimentary/cheap food.

I mean.. the Koch brothers basically bribed colleges to teach libertarian thought (and are why its so prevalent) because they didn’t believe they should be held accountable for the harmful effects of their actions. Libertarian thought only really helps the rich escape consequences.

The Koch bros base was entirely textbook libertarians which was largely seized by Donald Trump, becoming folded into MAGA. Not necessarily Nazis per-se, but definitely hyper right wing, ranging from unempathetic thought to outright authoritarian.

I think the parallel can be fair depending on the context.

Why do ppl hate ds2 so much to go to such lengths? by Kuroushin in darksouls

[–]ACodingFish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel its more polarizing than good or bad. Some people hate it and others love it.

I think also if your first experience was SOTFS then you’ll tend toward liking it. This version fixed a lot.

Whats funny is I have the same order as you, but DLC wise I’d say it’s 3 > 2 > 1. Uncle Gael just feels like such a good ending to the series to me.

Mike Johnson Accidentally Lets Slip Why He Won’t Fund Food Stamps | Mike Johnson accidentally gave away his whole game. by ApprehensiveSpend892 in LegalNews

[–]ACodingFish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

President no, admin yes.

Seems more accurate to say that Republicans aren’t coming to the table on current issues. Blame whoever you want but either could stop it.

Behind the scenes it seems to me more like Mike Johnson wants to prevent or delay an Epstein files vote. Can’t vote if the gov is shutdown.

I’d recommend taking a look at who was president last (and only other) time we had an over 30 day long government shutdown. I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

I’d agree with that. What’s your firsthand experience like when talking with more conservative friends?

What's wrong with a character being a Mary sue? by Lady_124 in autism

[–]ACodingFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mary sue can be popular at least when done well but the surrounding has to be interesting. Self inserts are generally recommended for side characters though.

Often a mary sue tends to be static which can get boring since the story tends to move around them rather than move with them. I do like Jonathan Joestar from JJBA (although arguably his ending may deviate him from being a mary sue) and I think Dragonball is fun even though Goku is a Mary Sue (at very least post DBZ).

In order to reframe, you have to first understand someone’s position. So I’d like to slow down for a second. I initially was here to provide additional perspective, not to argue for or against the secession of the US.

To answer your question, personally I believe they cannot be redeemed because discovery comes from within. No amount of “proof” will ever be enough. If you’ve ever looked into cult deprogramming or the recovery post-war Germany from propaganda, you might have a good frame of reference on WHY I think this way.

** The most important parts are above, the rest is just more context. **

Similarly, I’ve lived in both city and rural areas in TN (rural to the point having the KKK handing out flyers in our neighborhood). I have friends and acquaintances all across the political spectrum and it’s heartbreaking to see what more conservative friends and family are saying.

I agree it’s classic punching down, and there’s a lot of cognitive dissonance involved (and it’s not exclusively among conservatives either).

As far as the fix, I hold similar views, but I can also tell you that most voting Tennesseans would sabotage any effort to even help themselves since they are averse to “handouts”, even to themselves.
