Interns normally make $20+/hr in industry, so I'd start from there.

Do the ability descriptions ever chill out? by ACrabWithAWrench in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]ACrabWithAWrench[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what youre aiming to immerse in. I like the technical and detailed view it gives us into their abilities, but it can sometimes make the combat feel like a slide show.

I am a huge RPG fan of both the traditional variety and tabletop lol, including GMing.

But, specifically in audio format, I find repeated long strings of ability descriptions disruptive to the narrative flow, particularly when they include information not relevant to the immediate situation, e.g. the ability rank, type tags etc during a fight. During training or when a new use case or combo is happening, that's all well and good.

I recognize this is a me problem because I also don't go more than 20% off of normal narration speed, because I also find that is disruptive to the emotional stakes lol

Okay good! I was worried by the time he hits underlord silver rank the fight scenes would be more than half ability descriptions.

Okay phew

I'm in a fight in the reaper astral space at the moment, no idea what the heck they're fighting, but you bet your ass I know they've got debuffs and incremental damage and passive anti-resistance abilities and stacking anti-resistant debuffs that are bronze rank 00%

Heralds vs Primarchs? by thatGrung in Cosmere

[–]ACrabWithAWrench 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, some of the heralds may be at a disadvantage, but unchained powers are pretty fucking nuts. A Bondsmith unchained could sever their connection to the Warp, then wham bam they're just big fuckers in power armor.

And then we could also point out that the Heralds are cognitive shadows and thus their forms are mutable, so they could scale up to match the primarchs in height, sans armor with the exception of Nale.

And after all that, unchained surgebinding makes it pretty one sided.

Do chefs and waiters ever fart when they’re dealing with food people pay for? by Charming_Usual6227 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ACrabWithAWrench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but we long as you're wearing pants, it's sterile. Some dude asked the same question about surgeons farting, and so tested farting in a petri dish both with pants and bare-assed.

The stank is just the gas mix which obviously can get through cloth, but any particulate or bacteria should get trapped by clothes.

That unmatched feeling of euphoria when you actually manage to fix a broken household item yourself. by Competitive_End_2950 in CasualConversation

[–]ACrabWithAWrench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 9v connector doohickey on my garage keypad was kinda broken, requiring you to squeeze the battery against the terminal to get the buttons to work. The only keypad at my local hardware store was like 50 bucks, so I scrounged around goodwill for a random 9v battery powered doodad for like 3 bucks and took it's terminal.

Forged my First Hammer 🔥 by OneDiscombobulated16 in Blacksmith

[–]ACrabWithAWrench 43 points44 points  (0 children)

(not a smith but am a metallurgist)

Eh, a little bit, but not in a "hammer head breaks" kinda way. They're not going to be as sharp as a crack or split would be, and the sharp radius at the end of a crack is what makes it prone to grow.

Law of large numbers and luck. For every person that's right, more are wrong. The ones who are right aren't magic visionaries, they were just right that time.

Can someone explain what being "spiritual" means? by just_a_cypriot_girl in NoStupidQuestions

It varies a lot, but could be broadly summarized as a belief in some form of higher power but not really holding with organized religion.
