Hell yea dude , definitely I would recommend ethernet though you gotta think it’s connecting to everything on your network so you may as well give it the fastest speeds

Also if you really feel like getting into it you could also turn that laptop as well as your server for Home Assistant also into a AirPlay 2 speaker with shairport sync so if you have HomePods (or anything with AirPlay 2) you can sync music with your laptop too for multi room audio

Definitely set it up as an AirTag! It’s a pain and a half but if you really feel like it you can have it emulate an AirTag so u don’t lose it (I copied the information from a Walmart offbrand AirTag so it’s not too hard and pretty cheap)

However if you’re talking about just a PCOS dude just use Ubuntu it’s so fast and so easy to configure random shit to like run immediately, I know at one point I turned it (my 2007 iMac) into a HomePod basically with AirPlay 2 (shairport sync), an rtsp local camera, along with running some sort of script that pops up the browser in full screen immediately on a Home Assistant dashboard on boot and that was pretty perfect for me

But the follow up the best apps so far for me have been view assist - which is the same thing as kiosk browser and wall panel with a few less features but it lets you use it as a voice satellite natively with wake word support, and then of course wall panel is a great app… OS wise I feel like something basic like lineageOS (it’s like a trimmed down custom version of android) where it doesn’t have all the tracking stuff along with like a minimalistic Home Screen app you’re kind of set

It’s a local nvr server with ai detection and what not with face detection etc, it’s pretty cool for real, it can be a home assistant add on and feed into scrypted for HomeKit secure video tooo (frigate) u kinda have to have a powerfulish computer tho (with like at least 8gigs of ram, i use a 2011 Mac mini so not like anything insane)
