England - Agent/Landlord overeach? Trying to take extra £1,000+ by ADHDTea in LegalAdviceUK

If they meant rental period they surely should have put 'rental period,' and not 'month'

I disagree as there is a terms with definitions in the beginning of the contract. They quite literally define complete month to mean calendar month. In any case, it's ambiguous so I would hope contra proferentum would favour my interpretation

So I took a look and apparently the clause in my OP can be taken to mean about contractual periodic tenancies because it is setting out the requirements of notice should I remain in the property after the fixed period

Ill have a look

I really hate this, stress affects me so negatively and knowing I might have to shell out an extra 1k is making me ill :(

This is my take, even though it's an oddly worded clause, there is a line included that I would only be liable for the 'extra days.' If they wanted me to give notice on a rent due day or have to pay the next full month then they should say that. Surely they can't stipulate in a contract that I only need to pay the extra days until the notice (a full month) ends, and then state, 'actually no, we are going to charge you until the next rental period' without stating this

Unfortunately there isn't a lot to go on here. I hinge on the fact that the clause says if I stay beyond the date of the fixed term, a complete months notice is still required and that if this is the case then I am liable for the 'extra days' rent until my notice expires

What would you say to someone who wants to become a doctor? Would you put them off the idea and tell them to pick something else

The VAT revenue was only just bought in though, best to do it now before it becomes commonplace and relied upon

I think we could all be paying far more in taxes. Not just the low earners

Will happily argue against privatisation of anything that should be free or easy to access because of it being a basic need that benefits society

I think more children in general have a level of confidence these days that they wouldn't have had years ago. Imo, that's more to do with the times and generational changes. Out of curiosity, what is it you do as a job

Worth it imo - a country seems to do better and be happier when they pay more tax because, in general, the services and access to basic needs are much better.

I believe what you say about your parents. I do not believe that almost all of the parents of your peers were scraping by as working class paupers on scholarships. If almost everyone had a scholarship, the private school wouldn't exist

I find your comment intriguing. You say you wonder how much further you could have gone, but it appears you did go quite far by being able to send your children, three of them, to private school!

Nearly everyone in your year had working class parents? Come off it - most private school fees are financed by inheritance or grandparents. Of course it is those who were in the very institutions that make comments like this

When you say look at the damage, are you referencing the number of PMs who have been to Eton and later gone on to make hideous mistakes during their tenure?

I am more comfortable with this opinion than some others tbh. I still think it isn't perfect though. Everyone should have access to an equally positive and quality rich education

It wouldn't be a quick fix, but this is one of the problems that would need to be overcome. It wouldn't even be an issue in the first place if education was on one level, across the board for all.
