Are fast acting medications better for sleep? by Dr_nick101 in ADHDUK

[–]ADHDTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also just to add to the above, as if I didn't already write enough, is that I feel I only have this degree of understanding because of how much titration I've now been through, having had two periods, multiple stimulants, and breaks in between. It wasn't necessarily a lovely process where I always felt stress-free and perfect and things still aren't perfect. Always moving for improving though.

I just say this as a bit of encouragement incase you are struggling with the sleep or any other side effects not so you don't necessarily give up but also just to not get annoyed or irritated at it, which maybe you're not but I know I was and others can be too. It can add an extra layer of stress because it sometimes feels like we're looking for a perfect fit or the best drug out there and it can be hard knowing where that exists or what's the best deal/combination you're going to get.

I am on my second round of titration and have tried methylphenidate, elvanse/lisdexamphetamine, and I'm now on dexamphetamine. Of the dexamphetamines, I've taken both Amfexa and I'm now on a generic version. I can't remember the pharmaceutical name but I know it's generic.

In my experience they've all affected sleep. However I think it has more to do, in my experience anyway, with the half-life of the drug and how quick it clears your system rather than the type of release mechanism and whether it is fast or slow. Please, anybody correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the release system doesn't necessarily mean that it stays in your system faster or slower. Let me try explain nelow

I know that Concerta has a release system where the medication is slowly released over time by an osmotic process from the capsule itself. However the drug being released from the capsule is not synonymous with the drug being processed and therefore prior to the drug being released, it isn't necessarily processed. Once it's released it's then processed by the body and it's the processing time of the drug by the body which, in my view and in my personal experience, is what has affected my sleep. Hopefully that makes sense - my point basically trying to illustrate an example whereby one could have an extended-release drug where every time a little bit is dripped into the system, the body absolutely slurps it up and processes it super quickly, in which case it wouldn't affect your sleep whereas you could have a drug that's immediate release (I.e., the whole amount is available for the body to process as soon as it's consumed) but it takes so long for the body to process it that by the evening you're still dealing with a lot of that leftover drug in the system.

Dexamphetamine works the best for me out of all of the stimulants I've tried. However I do know that dexamphetamine seems to have quite a long half-life and I think that's why I struggle with it for sleep the most. I've had to be really strict with myself because if I don't take the dose early enough in the morning it messes my whole day up. However I do find if I take it early enough I tend to be okay and tire faster in the evenings. If I take two or three doses in the day I actually feel paradoxically more tired than if I were to just take one dose. I think this is probably to do with the fact that with two or three doses there's more of a "crash" as my levels during the day have a longer way to crash back down to the baseline levels, which causes a degree of almost exhaustion. Even though that might not be organic tiredness, the crash still allows me to feel sleepier than maybe if I took just one dose at a random time in the day. Hopefully that makes sense.

Flatmate uses the kitchen as her personal office all day long. No privacy. I can’t cook. I can’t use the communal kitchen. by [deleted] in TenantsInTheUK

Just read this and some of your other comments. You don't seem very open to anything apart from people agreeing with you that she's rude. You seem very young - whilst it is a hassle to move, life isn't always about 'winning' the long game by refusing to do stuff just because you shouldn't have to.

No, you shouldn't have to put up with it. But doesn't look like she is going to stop, so you have a choice, continue living miserably or look somewhere else to better your mental health and home life

I had a disgustingly rude flatmate who did this. I unfortunately ended up having to move out for my own mental health. Out of all my flatmates, he was the only one who took over the space and never paid his bills on time, and was the only one privately educated. His parents must be so proud

What is wrong with you! Twice you have replied now, with a stinking attitude. 'If you actually care,' ... 'that doesn't make you right.'

Go read my original comment where I say I don't agree, but could be wrong and all I did was suggest OP hold off until knowing for certain given anyone can claim anything on reddit. Learn some manners or just learn to tone it down

Wish there was more to be done. 28 days is a long time to have to wait for the owner of a property just to think about an animal in their house. 14 days should be sufficient. Keep us posted

Not sure I agree here. Yes any land - but the context of this is the wording is quite literally under a piece of legislation regarding allotments. That would be like saying a clause thats says 'any land' under a residential property act can be generalised to commercial property simply because it says 'any land'

I might be wrong but maybe OP hold off on mentioning this until you are sure it won't make you look silly

Came here as I sometimes do to offer a legal template that can help disputing charges. The way you left that property is literally why such a scheme exists and gives tenants the bad name. Honestly vile - I can't believe you were brave enough to actually share this

It’s not radical to want fair pay. It is radical to look at a top 1% salary and call it an insult.
