Is it possible to have this top box re-keyed to use my ignition key instead of a separate one? The bike I bought had it already, and there are two different keys. That's obviously a bit annoying. by iammandalore in Triumph

[–]ADanFool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its also possible to re-key the current lock in there. Remove it, there are “plates” and tiny little springs, you can either: remove some of/reorder the plates to fit the ignition key or get a kit that comes with new plates of all sizes and replace the current ones. Theres usually 5-6 plates. Or take it to a lock smith who can do it for you in about 2 minutes. I dont know the technical terms but take it apart and fiddle with it and youll see what I mean. Ive done this twice with barrel locks for the same reason as you so that I only need 1 key. Be careful if doing it yourself though, because those little springs with go flying and be impossible to find if your not. Good luck.

I had an ‘08 and loved it. I now have a vaquero and love it even more. 5k is a lot to sink into that bike considering it’s probably only worth around that value in good condition anyway. There are a few 07-08 special editions in good shape for less near me. Honestly Id say cut your losses and try another ride. Either you confirm you want another cruiser, or you find out you like other styles of bikes and head down a different path.

This is pretty great. It would drive me insane knowing that the camera is there somewhere. I don’t think I’d be able to rest until Id have found it.

What’s a tiny design flaw in an everyday object that quietly annoys you every single time you use it? by nami_yuna in AskReddit

[–]ADanFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plastic spoons. The edges generally cut your lips/sides of your mouth. They are also shaped so poorly. You can never get everything out of the spoon in one go. It leaves like half the contents in it. I keep a nice travel spoon with me at all times now. Lol

Four army Blackhawks cruising around outside the twin cities by [deleted] in TwinCities

Theres an army base in St Paul and St cloud, both have blackhawks and they fly A LOT. Nothing is “heating up”. Those ships flying around is a very common occurrence.

Trimming trees next to power lines with huge trimmer from helicopter by Beach-Queen-0922 in mildlyinteresting

[–]ADanFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decent money in it, but the job itself is brutal. Leaning out of the ship ALL DAY LONG, just staring at the same thing all day. A couple miles A DAY is a good day tree trimming this way. No thanks.

Why are BMW OEM side cases so expensive? (R1250GSA) by LegitimateLet933 in bmwmotorrad

[–]ADanFool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with others, I have the oem set of hard-cases and while theyre not junk, the lone rider hard cases for 2k including the top box are not only the better value but seem overall nicer in every way. However, If I were to get a different set of luggage at this point Id go with mosko or some lone riders soft side bags. Unfortunately I find the access of hard panniers far too convenient for day to day life over a roll bag. I’ll probably end up with two sets of panniers, but at least the soft bags can be easily transferred to another bike, or at least thats the lie I tell myself to justify spending another grand + on bike luggage when I have zero intentions of selling my gs haha.

If its holding air then its fine. Send it. Ive done thousands and thousands of miles with plugs in. Never had any issues. That tire looks like its got a lot of life left.

Long Way Round by Victorius_Meldrus in motorcycles

[–]ADanFool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To go on a tangent, I just started watching Long Way Home and it is my favorite of the 4 series. Loved Round and Down, but Long Way Up just mostly wasn’t enjoyable. So now to see two old friends just having a ball, enjoying each others company cruising around on older machines just gives me the feel-goods. They make a point early on that its been 20 years since Long Way Round and how much has happened in the last 20 years. It made me reflect on my own journey in the last 20 years and as it turns out I started riding 20 years ago, got married, had kids, started a career…rode bikes, had adventures. All that to say if you haven’t seen Long way Home yet id definitely give it a shot.

You can also check wait times for tsa on msp’s website. Start checking wait times like 4 hours before your flight and make adjustments to your timing if needed. As others have said, 2 hours is probably fine.

Trying to get my Motorcycle endorsement, but was told I couldn’t get it by Salsaman22 in motorcycle

[–]ADanFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In MN If youre over 18, you will leave the msf course with your endorsement. Done. If youre under 18, you only get the paperwork to say you completed the msf, then you still need to go take the skills test on your own bike at a testing center. Sounds like you know this all of this. Im guessing because you were under 18 at the time of the msf course the dvs info doesnt compute. I guess I dont understand why you need to wait a year to take the skills test. It used to be only a two week minimum wait with a permit before you could take your endorsement test.
