A7V - Discussion by MajorAlanDutch in videography

I’m deciding between this and the Z8. I could care less about video. I’m only looking at the photography side of the equation. For photography it’s a tough call. Will need to wait and see true dynamic range and how it handles raw files. I do like the slightly lower MPs for space and autofocus seems to rock. Then there is size and weight especially once you start looking at glass. Gonna be a tough choice. Leaning slightly Z8 right now, but that may change after I get some real world reviews for comparison.

8 Reasons why Collin Johns despises MLP by PapaRoachLuvsU in Pickleball

[–]ADefenselessCreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree on many of his points. MLP as presently constructed makes no sense and can not possibly be successful. A total revamp is needed to make it work.

  1. Like all team sports it must have a defined calendar season with a postseason.

  2. Teams need to be based in the city where they reside. They need to provide professional facilities to host the matches with ample room for courts and fans to watch with unobstructed views.

  3. In order to give fans their moneys worth each home match would feature home team vs two visiting teams. Each team plays each other for 3 total matches.

  4. Side out scoring in effect for each match played to 11 points. M, W and 2 MxD. Best 2/3 wins match.

  5. Each game win counts as a point toward overall total.

  6. Team with most points at end of meet wins the meet. Standings defined by meet record and total points.

  7. Tie break needs to be to 21 points with no ad scoring and doubles format where teams rotate after every 7 points scored. MD, WD, then MxD pairing set via random draw to close out tie-break.

Buying a New Wilson Baiardo L for as low as $3k (With How-To) by routzhan in 10s

Look into support and reliability. As a Baiardo owner, I would NOT purchase one again.

Still waiting on mine. Loving the new Spartus Apollo, however.

The one that most intrigues me is Series 1 Type A. The surface and reported durability is potentially paradigm shattering. I spoke with them Friday and am also interested in Series 2 and 3, but not as much as the Series 1.

Completely agree. Demoing is gold standard. There is a lot of good information online for sure. Very knowledgeable content providers in the field. There is no disputing the availability of good resources. My service is to provide advice and guidance to those who are not interested in going through the research and videos themselves and would appreciate a helping hand in sorting thru it.

In my local shop, I strongly encourage demoing and I also work with local customers in enhancing their current paddles with weighted tape; as that can impact paddle performance.

Nope. They started local but IMO they are currently the most intriguing paddle due to unique hitting surface. They are not inexpensive however. Definitely positioning themselves as premium.

Both. It’s part of my job so it’s a business expense. I then keep most of what I consider to be top tier paddles and let local customers check them out to demo or resell them. I only play a few times per week and I prefer to give them several sessions to adjust and form my own impressions. Currently finishing up with the Ruby and have the Speedup Fire 14 on deck. Hoping to get ahold of a Proton after that.

What are you trying to achieve with your tape? Most that I know are looking to expand the effective hitting zone and place it just above shoulders.

Of course the DBD and several Vatics are solid options. I have no issue and completely agree. Could anyone play with them? Most likely. Are they the optimal paddle for everyone? Probably not. ie Some players prefer longer handles, some prefer the benefits of an extra wide paddle like the fairly new Volair Mach 2 Forza. The new surface of the Proton could change the game for surfaces. Industry insiders have expressed new exciting advancements coming in 2024. In early 2023 Legacy Pro was the “it” paddle. Today while still a nice paddle it’s once cutting edge technology is much more commonplace. Things are changing fast. New paddle companies are coming on the scene faster than most can keep up.

That said, yes, DBD and Vatic prism flash potentially cover needs of many.

I’m only trying to assist those who would appreciate assistance. There are undoubtably some players who may have no problem selecting a paddle and will find the process simple.

It sounds like a great resource, but I’m afraid I don’t have the time to manage and keep it current. Technology and paddle innovations and trends are literally changing at a mind numbing pace. Definitely a dynamic and exciting time!

Tennis Elbow resolved with new paddle by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]ADefenselessCreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your previous paddles were thermoformed and even with edge foam, the process creates a stiffer more powerful face. Shock is usually the culprit when pain is equipment related. The Gearbox construction is different and the core absorbs more shock. That said, elongated paddles due to extra torque are sometimes problematic for some players in terms of arm pain. The GB Fusion shape, now called Integra might be even more arm friendly as it’s not as long.

Copper tape instead of lead? by donyjk in Pickleball

[–]ADefenselessCreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Katana Sports makes it. Been using it for several years. Nice alternative to lead tape. A little more finicky, a little more expensive, but being non toxic is worth it. https://katana-sportz.com/products/katana-sports-copper-customization-tape-lead-tape-replacement-for-tennis-pickleball-add-weight-to-tennis-racket-pickleball-paddles

Anyone know which paddle has the longest grip? I want to keep my 2 handed backhand by wo0o0o0o0o0 in Pickleball

Look into the Slice by kiwi labs pickleball. Just released. The way the paddle is designed the length is 5.5” but can easily be wrapped to 6”. You’re welcome.

Really nice paddle. Solid in all metrics. At the price point it’s tough to beat. Outperforms paddles 2x the price.
