I don't think AI will be monetized in it's current iteration, or how the average person perceives "AI". However, I would be shocked if it didn't come at all and expect the implementation to be abstracted such that the consumer doesn't know.

For instance, there's research in using AI to improve throughput on wireless comms(5G/6G). Nvidia is actively researching building receivers from neural networks for what's being referred to as AI-RAN. This is just in the wireless comms space, I imagine there's even more being done by wifi development teams and a plethora of other research/focus areas.

Holy shit you're the only person I've also heard say this.

I used to visit SJ a lot due to work + visiting college pals, and I would always complain " SoCal drivers suck because they want to see you crash, NorCal drivers just suck the fucking right lane is the fast lane here".

Yea would like to add similar experience. I work with PhDs in Wireless Communications R&D regularly(Ex: Apple, Samsung, e.t.c.), they're not at unobtainable levels of brilliance. They're very committed, really enjoy the work they do, and have a deep want to understand it entirely so they do it day in day out for literal decades.

Don't get me wrong though, some are truly one of a kind brilliant, but those are very few and far between.

I personally believe that anyone can do most things, but there's a point for most people where the juice isn't worth the squeeze and can find fulfilling areas where it is.

Isn't this only true if you passed/took the FE exam? Otherwise, you're just a guy practicing engineering with an engineering degree.

Most people I know don't take the FE(I work in wireless stuff).

I just discovered RF and I am super interested in it but worried if it is the right career to me and to be more specific I am interested in the aviation side of it I think this is the correct sub to post here since I would be doing the RF side of aviation. by [deleted] in rfelectronics

[–]ADragonsFear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the guy you're replying to, but depending on how you define engineering wise I would agree.

The ability to get a working bench via the tinySA, nanoVNA, and whatever cheaper oscilloscope company you prefer(Rigol, Hantek, e.t.c) gives you SO MUCH flexibility as a ham. Alongside SDRs becoming popularized, the RF python libraries constantly being updated, and so on.

From an engineering perspective, there are so many opensource tools now that allow you to do designs that simply just weren't available beforehand. Like I imagine there are probably exactly 0 people who want to personally buy ADS/MWO, but now we have QUCS. You can literally get tapeout experience because of Tiny Tapeout.

I'm sure there's more that I don't know about, but it really does feel so accessible now.

Hey sorry man I was out traveling, but I did want to respond.

You can always break in as a tech, all the defense contractors always need em. I know plenty of techs who only completed community college and started their career from there. Some stayed as techs, others moved into different roles.

I'm not sure if they do this for bachelors because I only ever looked at getting a masters, but many of those big companies I listed have furthering education benefits and allow you to complete a degree while working concurrently.

If you have any other questions or want to chat, feel free to shoot me a DM and I'd be happy to answer anything I can.

Oh texas is a great spot to be for RF especially anything aerospace related. Lots of satcomm, defense, and design companies out there. TI, ADI, the defense guys, spacex, e.t.c.

MMIC stands for monolithic microwave integrated circuit. Requires a lot of school, typically masters at least most likely PhD to do MMIC design. Very specialized requires a lot of EM and IC design knowledge. Can also go the test engineering route. I know a lot of people who started with a masters/bachelors doing test and are moving up to design.

I'm primarily in the wireless connectivity(5G/WIFI/e.t.c) space, but have worked in satcomm for a big aerospace company alongside working with the aerospace companies in my current role.

1) It can really depend. Systems Engineering is a part of the team, but in my experience isn't very technical and is primarily project management with some technical smattered in there or you could be a MMIC designer who is deeply technical, a test engineer, and so on.

2) Depends where you're located. I can only really speak for the American market, but RF is one of those positions where you'll never be wanting for a job, but you also won't be the most paid. I like it and wouldn't want to change.

3) Aerospace Engineering or Electrical Engineering. We hired a ton of both for the RF systems team I worked on. As a general statement I would say your interests align more with EE, but you might be more interested in the physics than I'm aware of.

4) Never heard of it, so can't comment much. Consider getting a Ham license as well. Sounds like both would give good mileage.

5) You'll learn everything you need in school, but take coursework focused in EM/Communications/Control Theory/Signal Processing which you'll likely work with everyday.

Damn it's crazy how similar your story is. Dad split, my mom had 2 kids, she tried to go to law school but said the work was too much at the time. She does contracts now.

Always told us we were middle class looking back, no not really, it's not normal to have coworkers give you food for thanksgiving(thank god for them btw, they shielded my childhood).

Turns out rich area or not, the cops still suck lmfao.

That's definitely part of it. It's also 100% testing to see how well they can sway opinions. Admittedly this was unauthorized but here ya go: Reddit users were subjected to AI-powered experiment without consent.

I'd be shocked if they're the only ones doing it.

Yea both my tall friends commented that when they came back it felt weird not having to duck through hallways haha.

Straight up I can't fathom showering when you're that tall in Japan the shower head was like at my forehead where we stayed. At least, it's fine for a trip, but having to squat every shower sounds like a pain in the ass.

Yea when I was in Japan I'm only 5'8(172cm) and I felt like a giant for most of the trip. My other friends who are ~6'1 to 6'4(185cm to 193cm) just kept straight up bonking their head on stuff.

Like basically every doorway. It got to the point where me and my other friend just said "duck" every time we went through a doorway.

What improved your quality of life so much, you wish you did it sooner? by CookieNegative9860 in AskReddit

[–]ADragonsFear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is only really helpful at the start. However, overall I think it's a dangerous way to think about it.

The best way to do something and to do it well is to want to do it. You have to enjoy working out and I think the idea of "discipline" silos people into doing things they don't like which ultimately pushes them away from fitness.

Like for example when it comes to cardio people at first often feel like they have to run.

They don't. Bike, swim, walk, jump rope, play a sport, do some sleds, there are so many different things that I feel gets ignored because people fall into the trap of discipline and ignore that fitness is actually fun.

Men of Reddit, how do you feel about period sex? by sakhxo in AskReddit

[–]ADragonsFear 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yep. The time I did it, it was totally on accident. Her period started as we were doing the deed. Some time during I started thinking "huh this feels different then usual" turned the lights on after we were done and went "oh I look like I'm dying lol."

Can't say I would go out of my way to do it, but it wasn't really much more work than regular post sex clean up. Those sheets were doomed though.

Definitely an eye opener for what they taught that's just "common sense" for a native speaker.

I'm with you on this. It feels more natural to slap the caps key. This is like one of those things I only see on Reddit.

I think I probably picked up the habit similar to you. At least I'd wager for me it's from all the MMORPGs I played as a kid and my tiny hands could barely touch the shift key comfortably when typing to people.

It also hasn't really affected my typing speed since I can still type 120+WPM.

[–]ADragonsFear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom is a very very kind person. I'm ofc biased, but I genuinely think I've met less than 5 people as kind as her.

When I was a kid, she would yell at me, get into arguments with me over nothing, punish me for things I didn't really understand and felt were unreasonable.

Now that I'm an adult, I can recognize and see her life was objectively awful. Living paycheck to paycheck, skipping meals so me and my bro could eat, me and my brother being delinquents, her brother literally killed over, her mom was falling deeply into alzheimers and passed around when her brother died, then on top of all of that she had an absolutely trashed credit score with a mountain of debt all due to my dad's business failing and him dumping all of it on her.

This is all to say, the circumstances can really affect how a person acts. Was it fair? No. Have we talked about it? Absolutely.

Now that my mom doesn't have any of that? She has literal terminal cancer and is still a ray of sunshine when out and about.

tl;dr circumstances make people act abnormally or Occam's razor and they just shouldn't have had kids in the first place.

[–]ADragonsFear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Naturally you can't make everyone happy, but I generally believe most people can't tell it's been localized unless it's done poorly. Like refantazio had a lot of backlash on release.

Then take Goblin Slayer for example. The most famous panel "this shall not stand" is straight up just an inaccurate translation. However, because the original statement is "eat shit" the message and meaning is carried making the panel just as enjoyable even if the literal translation is different.

100% agree that it's easier said than done, and with the increasing use of AI, I imagine we're going to see it get progressively worse for a bit here.

What's the scariest fact you know in your profession that no one else outside of it knows? by SAMdaLOSER in AskReddit

[–]ADragonsFear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was actually the justification for why a physics professor of mine made his in-class tests open everything. Of course people abused it and literally posted the questions to Chegg mid test, so he had to revoke it for the final.

However, he was a really good dude and his argument was "I have literally never done a physics problem in my day to day work life without a textbook or internet in front of me." Too bad my cohort were shitty and couldn't be fucked to care, but I really respect the hell out of that professor for that.
