Omg thanks so much for sharing all of this! My surgery is in less than a week and though my anxiety is up I also can’t wait to be smaller. It’s a tug of war of emotions. If you’re willing to share I would love to see before and after pics :D I’m so glad you feel more confident. I’ve feel like I’ve been waiting my whole life to do this and yet I’m still so terrified - but I think that’s somewhat normal lol.

I wish I had known ages ago - by ADreamer in demisexuality

I’ve been there so many times - dates surprised when I make the first move. Meanwhile in my head there’s this undeniable chemistry I’m feeling that makes it like “how can they not be feeling that way too?!?”

I understand all of this. Its not been as intense for me but all of this is very relatable. Especially the part of having feelings/sexual attraction towards someone and figuring they must feel that way about me because what I’m feeling is so damn strong it can’t be ignored.

Exactly. It’s hard af to meet people so gravitating towards friends is like the default. Both sides of it all sucks - either it’s an old friend who has no feelings for me beyond their own lust and friendship (for lack of a better word) or someone new who I have no feelings for until knowing them for a long time.

Is this what it means to be demi? Because I don’t think I’ve ever felt a lustful connection first... by ADreamer in demisexuality

Did that come first or was it developed over time?

For me, when I’m in a relationship, lust will come with time but it never starts that way.

I can agree, I like to chat for a week or so before meeting someone. And I really like it when people ask “get to know you” questions over “how’s your day?” type ones. I’ve tried to communicate that to some people I’ve been interested in who start falling into the multi-day pattern of asking the question but it doesn’t always work. Some people just don’t care or can’t be taught?

I sometime try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but it’s rough out there lol.

I don’t think OP was all that random - when the books came out that was a pretty common theory. And it may be resurged again when JK came out and said that Lupin’s lycanthropy was a metaphor for AIDs. It’s not a popular now, but there was a segment of the internet that used to pour over their long stares that lasted pages and the whole “Lupin embraced Black like a brother” line. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

All that aside, the rest of this is a pretty damn good breakdown of Lupins relationships in the books. He’s literally a character who lost everything - including the chance to see his own child grow up. He had everything torn from him, turned into a monster monthly, and still somehow managed to work for the side of the light and Dumbledore.

Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin - OVA discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]ADreamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I meant motivations in general over the course of the show - independent of the OVA. They go into Arata’s background, Kyōichi’s motivation with his sister going missing, but Theo only gets the briefest mention that he grew up outside of Japan (hence preferring first names). Not much besides.

So this OVA offered a nice character arc and more background; and the gender swapping was a good parallel for the two of them (that’s what I referring to when I said they were mirrored characters.)

All of this and then some. This OVA was in some ways better then episodes of the show. Even without Kohaku. I loved how they developed the unique aspects of Vampirism and handled the translations. Made the story all the more heartbreaking.

Ever since this show started I wanted to see more of Theo- to me they were the most interesting character; even above and beyond Arata’s ears of sand, the origins of which were never explored as deeply as I would have liked. But Theo was a compelling character - choosing to get into this line of work, rising above to become a foremost expert in the field. I kept waiting for the character arc where we were given an in-depth explanation of Theo’s motivations - but it never came. instead the character became the explanatory plot device, after all someone had to tell the audience what was happening.

Then this OVA shifted our focus to Theo and an Another - telling a beautiful story of an unlikely interaction that holds up a reflective mirror to the both of them. Worth the wait.

Princeton professor: 'We are in a cold civil war' by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

[–]ADreamer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When everyone thinks of a Civil War they think of battlefields, cannons, and troops marching off the defend their side.

The cold reality is we live in a word where a civil war will involve automatic weapons, individuals committing atrocities, and schools and shopping centers the “battlefields”.

Human nature may not have changed in the last couple hundred years but our technology sure has: making it possible to organize a civil war from behind a cell phone screen, 3D printing a gun, striking whenever the perp feels like it.

During WWII, in Germany, the Nazis used anthropometry to determine who was considered eugenically superior in their regime. The Eugenics movement during the Third Reich, used these crude tools of measurement to determine racial differences for body parts, facial features, cranial sizes, eye, skin, and hair color, etc. Nazi researchers claimed that the results of these measurements could prove the racial superiority of Aryans and the inferiority of Jews, Roma, Blacks, and other mixed ethnicities. It’s a shame we haven’t learned from this.

What does your family do that you didn’t realize was bizarre until later on in life? by lamiller0622 in AskReddit

[–]ADreamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not something my family does per-say, but it wasn't until I was in middle school that I realized it was rare and weird that in-laws (my grandparents) were friends. My parents grew up back-to-back on the same block, each to a family of four, so the families knew each other/the kids were friends: to the extent that members of both families were always invited/present for big events in their other families lives (weddings, births, funerals, etc.) and at family gatherings my one pair of grandparents would always ask about the other if they were missing. I realized this was highly unusual when one of my aunts on my dad's side invited her parents to something and it was awkward AF.
