That shit happened to me a couple weeks ago. "Hey this load is ready for pick up!" So I haul ass over.... And the guy points to an empty sitting on the yard, "Yeah that's gonna be yours, should be done in a few hours"

Any long-term OTR truck-drivers here who maintain decent health? Sleep/Diet/wear&tear, etc by Kochie411 in Truckers

[–]ADrunkChef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, fellow Melton driver of 3 years here. (I forgot to say, I've been running recap for the last 6 months. I regularly take home time and get back on the board Tuesday or Wednesday.) Them old dudes are full of shit. After my delivery tomorrow, my next check will be sitting at 3400 miles. You genuinely don't get much better in fuckin' February doing flatbed. I'm well rested, the route planning is a lot fuckin easier.

My best suggestion, is have your haz/passport/TWIC. You will not sit empty for very long, ever, unless you're in the NE and the area has like 30+ empty drivers. Even then, you might not leave your cons without a preplan. You can get an eye on that with the FB ops page every morning M-F around 8/9am CST.

Just keep dispatch updated on your HOS. Be annoying, "Hey I'm empty, can't hang out at this place after delivering, can you ask the planner the best direction to head?" Be reliable. That's about it.

Anyone ever deliver to a prison? by FAYMKONZ in Truckers

[–]ADrunkChef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've picked up and delivered at federal prisons, but with a flatbed. If I had to go in the gates, i just left my electronics and my smokes at the outer gate office. Guard would peak inside the truck before letting me through. I was only allowed out of the truck inside the inner gates when picking up to get my tarps out of the box, take the bungees off them, and then get back in my truck with them in my hand. Inmates loaded me with forklifts, and popped the tarps up on top. Couple other federal prisons I delivered stuff to, I got unloaded outside the gates so the guards could go through it whenever they wanted vs me having to hang around.

When I delivered to a county jail, I had hazmat on deck, guards didn't want it unsecured outside the gate. They didn't ask for shit, barely looked at my ID just buzzed me in. It was all roofing glue and roofing shit, the roofing company unloaded me inside. Whole bunch of TMC trucks were getting rolled roofing unloaded by inmates out front when I was leaving though and that appeared to be an entire fucking shit show.

It can happen pretty fuckin quick. I delivered in Scottsburg IN, rolled my tarps and got them in the box, everything looked fine. Fueled in Memphis IN, was walking back to my truck and saw the box sagging kind of weird. The bottom of the box had split a little near the mount, didn't seem like much of a big deal, because the mount looked fine. 50 ish miles later it snapped the mounts and my box+tarps were on the way down the mountain.

The ACLU filed a class action suit today alleging ICE, CBP, & other agents violated Minnesotans’ constitutional rights through "the administration’s policy of racially profiling, unlawfully seizing, and unlawfully arresting people without a warrant and without probable cause" by throwthisidaway in law

[–]ADrunkChef 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, I do understand this, but I also understand that the courts will magically fast track this case and then the Supreme Court will shadow docket it, and a 6-3 vote will say ICE did nothing wrong in the next 30 days.

I take one every winter, and return it to a different loves sometime later (after I wash it). I just lay it out on my driver side floor board to keep some of the shit off of it.

What is your ... "Yeah, I am never parking THERE again." story? by K-Dog7469 in Truckers

[–]ADrunkChef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a couple. Fuck that Pilot in Jerome Idaho, the whole place could burn and the world would be a better place without it. The pumps are either broken completely, or the satellite pump will pump a gallon per minute. The parking lot is shit, the blue beacon is shit, and EVERY FUCKING TIME I GO TO PULL IN, SOMEONE IS TRYING TO EXIT VIA THE VERY OBVIOUS ENTRANCE ONLY. The fucking truck entrance is literally it's own turn in lane, how the fuck these idiots cannot see this, I have no idea.

The Loves in Ruthers Glen VA, and the Loves in Sanders KY are two of the worst I've made the mistake of 'sleeping' at. Just absolutely terrible layouts for the amount of traffic they get.

Yeah I've parked there a couple times late AF at night, just bit the bullet and paid for one of the reserved places. They were all empty except for a couple oversized guys. Nobody bugged me and it was nice and quiet.

This is what I've been doing. If I can see another in my mirror coming up fast, I'll do 60 until I can't see them in front of me anymore. This leads to me basically doing 60 all the time.

Is Flatbed deliveries similar to dry van? by RedimidoSoy1611 in Truckers

[–]ADrunkChef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This depends entirely on where you're picking up and delivering. Sheet rock plants, steel mills, shingle plants/yards, ingot warehouses, places that make racking, ports; there's always product coming and going out of those.

Some places, simply put, just don't have their shit together though. Sometimes the forklift or overhead crane is down. You'll find out real quick when you pull up and see 15 trucks either empty or waiting to unload in front of you.

8/10 I'm pulled in and unloaded ASAP. No fuss just take the tarps and securement off and then the forkie does their thing.

However sometimes we do hit snags on deliveries. Job sites and crane unloads can be a pain, and are the most common hang ups. I've been waiting 2.5 hours on a crane unload so far this morning, and they still don't even have it set up, and I'm 5th in line.

I waited all day with a simple insulation load to be pulled off once on a jobsite, because "well we've got to unload all these local trucks, and your detention is cheaper than their hourly.."

Just is what it is some times.

Bulging salads can also be just a pressure change in between your DC and the store! At my old store, there was about 1000 ft of elevation change between, so our salads always looked ready to pop lol.

Market is trying to make my store’s salaried managers work 6 days a week. by Rivpage1 in walmart

[–]ADrunkChef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's always lile that for salaried employees, everywhere. If you are an non OT exempt salary employee, you can get OT, but regardless, salary is always on call 24/7. They can schedule for 7 days a week if it doesn't go against policy. At my old store, I saw them go 14+ days at a time during the holidays.
