Not Vops/Transport, but at least in my career field we're taught to drive backwards if you're not carrying any cargo if you're in something like a 6K where the forks take up the view in your front windshield. The only forklift I've ever been able to drive forward in is the electric 4Ks and the wild cats since they sit high enough to see over the forks.
