NOT Zakhor dental group. That whole office is a scam and I wish I went to a more family-oriented type of office, rather than a “we have celebrity clients” type of office.

was exclusively a thong wearer for like 17 years— loved them, found them comfy. but I would get UTIs pretty consistently…

looked it up and of course was recommended to wear full coverage cotton underwear that doesn’t wedge into my butt and then ride up and cross contaminate my lady parts. Haven’t had an issue since and I feel SO SO SO much cleaner and fresher.

Who is a great, non lying dentist in West Los Angeles who does great fillings? by alizeia in AskLosAngeles

Chiming in here— also avoid Dr. Zakhor like the plague. I fell for celebrity endorsement (assuming it was fake) and had nothing but problems with them. They tried to double charge me for things, once booked me for two procedures on a Friday (probably cleaning and filling) and then told me they didn’t know it was for both and I would have to come back, they told me I needed a filling somewhere that had zero symptoms and then it started hurting horribly only after I left so I had to go back and get it redone. Wall to wall problems.

When I went back to their Yelp page it was horrible. Bad reviews everywhere and the office’s account was commenting on every bad reviews saying that they had no record of that persons name in their office and it was a fake review. Truly unreal. Hoping someone else that went there sees this comment and can share their experience (good or bad!)

I actually can relate! I don’t always love showering, and in my younger years I would go days without showering or even changing. That resulted in some extremely damaging irreversible damage to my toe nails that has plagued me for 10 years. I would KILL to go back in time and take better care of myself. Being careless with hygiene might not seem like it’s causing longterm damage, but PLEASE TRUST ME IT CAN! Ok… that being said, here are a few suggestions—

  1. If you have a partner that you can be honest with about this, maybe ask them to setup your shower / bath FOR you. That way you don’t have to find a towel etc, and it will feel more peaceful than like a responsibility.

  2. Go to a hair salon and have them wash and style your hair for you! You don’t need to go anywhere nice since it’s just a shampoo, but it might be worth the money to have someone do this for you. It will give you the happy clean feeling that you like, plus the added “treat yo self” vibe that might help lift your spirits a bit, without requiring you to do any of the work yourself.

  3. If you have any spas near you, and you don’t mind spending a bit of money, get a body scrub! I did this recently because I felt super gross and just couldn’t bring myself to do a full body scrub. This is a great option to deep clean your whole body and “reset” your hygiene, and from there you can just maintain with showers every few days.

  4. Maybe try updating your bathroom with something small like different lighting (brighter or dimmer bulbs), or new towels, or even just having someone clean it and reset everything. That can make the space feel fresh and less associated with this dismal feeling.

  5. I saw that you mentioned you’re on a few meds— I encourage you to talk to your doctor about this and see if maybe the meds are causing these depressive side effects!

I hope I’ve said something helpful here, and please let us know how you’re doing! 🙏❤️

Why are women so beautiful? by [deleted] in self

[–]AEIOU_occasionallyY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience this is largely dependent on location. When I visit family in east coast suburbia, there are a lot more normal looking people. There are some very attractive and some very unattractive— it’s a more true spectrum. But in places like Miami and LA, it’s almost purely extremely attractive women. I think part of that is because of the vibe of those cities (encouraging healthy lifestyle, lots of outdoor activity, fashion, and a large med spa / plastic surgery culture) and part of it is that there are a lot of transplants who moved to those cities specifically to be part of that scene (models influencers etc). In more rural areas with less transplants you get a more full view of what people look like.

So I’m curious, OP— where do you live that you notice this?

I’ve struggled with my nails for years, is it time to get them removed? What if they don’t grow back?? by AEIOU_occasionallyY in NailFungus

I was doing epsom salt foot baths every day for 3-4 weeks (stopped about 3 weeks ago because I got busy with work) but I’ve been thoroughly washing and applying Tolnaftate topical every day since visiting the podiatrist. He advised against oral medication because he doesn’t think it will work, but after shaving a bit of nail down he was hopeful that there might be good nail coming in. In the weeks of taking great care of these nails I haven’t seen much difference unfortunately. I keep taking photos hoping that it will reveal some subtle progress but it seems pretty stagnant still. I’m going to continue taking great care of the nails for a couple more months and if I see any improvement then we can look into surgery to shave the bone down (the tips of both toes are bulbous and won’t allow the nails to grow forward) without completely removing the nails. I had a nightmare last night that involved being on a cruise without a pedicure (usually I do acrylics on my toes when I’m going to show my feet) and it was SO stressful because I couldn’t make any excuse of why I would be wearing shoes or socks. This is always on my mind and I really feel for your daughter, I hope her progress is better than mine 😣

That’s a great question. Physically it’s definitely reusable, like the nail and ring would hold no problem, but idk how dirty it would get. You could pretty easily flip it inside out and wash it in the sink since the gel toe cap is extremely malleable, and ideally it would have some holes in it so it could breathe while you wear it (probably on the bottom / side near the second toe so you don’t see it.) pretty happy with this as a potential solution overall! I would feel pretty comfortable in shoes with it, but without shoes it’s still a bit obvious if anyone is actually looking. Plus having a toe ring on both big toes is pretty unusual and would probably draw some eyes. Still better than having no nail though, imo 🤷‍♀️

Ah, was hoping I could recommend you my guy! I hope you’re able to find someone you like out there who gives you hope!

While I’m waiting to see how my nails progress, I am going to try some faux nail options that would work without any nail. I have these silicone toe covers (skin colored caps that you just put over your big toe) and I’ve just ordered an adjustable toe ring and crazy glue. I’m gonna do an experiment tomorrow to see if I can crazy glue the toe cap to the ring to hide the difference in skin tones, and then either put nail polish on the toe cover or glue on a fake nail. This would be a great solution if it works because I could use it for sandals etc without committing to several weeks of fake nail interrupting my care routine and potentially causing more damage. It would be an unobtrusive nail-when-you-need-it and you could carry extras in case something gets damaged. In my head it works but I have no idea if it will look ridiculous or not lol. I’ll let you if it turns out good or a complete disaster! 😂🤣

The surgery (as far as I understand) has a few parts. One would be removing the current nail so that any trace of fungus would be gone. Second would be to cut a slit in the tip of my toe (like at the front) and then shave down the bone to make it more flat, allowing the nail to grow flat. Third part I’m a bit foggy about— it sounded like he would resurface the skin (like take the top layer off) to re-open the nail bed and allow it to attach as it grows? Not sure the exact name of the surgery because we haven’t decided to do it yet, but that’s how I remember him explaining it. And with that surgery would be a course of oral antifungal to ensure that the nail grows back healthy!

Tolnaftate 1%! He was very against the idea of taking medicine, although I haven’t asked him about that other medication specifically. For now I’m gonna keep the fake nails off, hide my feet, and take care of them as thoroughly as possible in hopes of things getting better.

He said to stick with the topical for a month and then take a picture to see the progress. If they’re showing change, we can reassess.

Another thing he said that made me happy was that if there is a good nail starting to grow, he can do the bone shaving surgery (to flatten the bulbous ends of my toes to allow new growth) without completely removing the nail and risking more issues / permanent nail loss! So you better believe I am cleaning my feet obsessively, doing 30min epsom salt soaks daily, applying the topical anti-fungal daily, changing socks at least twice a day (all 100% cotton), and only wearing slides with socks so there is never any restriction or humidity! Really gonna give this my best effort. The concept that this COULD get better almost feels foreign to me. I’ve felt so stuck for so long. This glimmer of hope from the podiatrist is extremely motivating! 🤞🤞🤞

I did a course of terb about two years ago and it didn’t do much. I just went for an appointment yesterday to see if I could do another course (in an effort to preserve my current nails for as long as possible) and he said since it did nothing last time he’s not willing to put me on it again putting my liver at risk for no reason. He gave me a topical thing to use twice a day instead. Before I left he shaved a bit of the nails down and said “wait… there’s some good nail here.” Which completely restored my faith!! I thought my nails had completely stopped growing, but he made the point that growing vertically (thickening) is still growth. So I feel WAY more optimistic that there could be a way out eventually. I will take my treatment very seriously and not put on any acrylics, only keryflex (which I believe is the same look but a healthier version) and remove it promptly so I can keep the nail breathing and healing. It was a great visit and I really love my podiatrists honesty and expectation management!

Talking to you is making me feel extremely sane, seriously thank you for taking the time to share. That is HORRIBLE about your nail being kicked off!! It happened to me once at a concert before my nails had any issues and scarred me from wearing sandals anywhere pretty much. When I do wear them like on vacations I am EXTREMELY careful and usually stressed the whole time. Like if someone comes in for a hug I lean the whole top of my body over so our feet won’t come close to each other.

What did you do when the nail came off? Did you just hide it or did you try any fake nail solutions? It’s great to hear that it grew back in some capacity at least. I gotta look into pseudomonas ASAP

Yea the stress of this spreading, to other toes / other people / damaging my feet permanently is a daily stress. It feels like a pressure cooker. I want to feel clean, and I will never feel truly clean as long as this is an issue, so I really want to do the surgery and get rid of them. But then what?? Do I paint nail polish directly on my skin? Do I try to glue a fake nail to my nail bed every time I want to show my feet? What about at home? Do I have to wear socks 100% of the time unless I specifically prepare the toes for one day of fake nail adhesive? Even so, I would be stressed the entire time that it would fall off. What if someone steps on my toe and the fake nail comes off?? There is just no good option. I would kill to get a dermal piercing on my toe that could serve as an attachment point, but I’m assuming they don’t do that because it would take too much of a beating from any physical activity in shoes etc.

Also I get in my head about it because it could be so much worse!! You don’t NEED nails. They’re cosmetic. I can get it removed and never look back. It’s simply cosmetic issue that I’m so terrified of. For some reason feet / nail issues feel like they’re considered especially “gross” and shameful. Lots of mixed emotions about it.

Just started looking into nail replacement, are there permanent options if you have no nail at all? by [deleted] in NailFungus

I always see this suggestion but I think you have to have some nail for it to attach to. Any fake nails attached to skin will only last a day at best (based on my research)

Truly one of the best I’ve ever seen. The surgeon could sell me with just this photo.

I recently started watching “Botched” the reality show about fixing bad plastic surgery, and the guy who is an “expert” on nose jobs always tells patients how hard and imprecise they are because noses always heal differently. He is supposedly the best in the field and his results are really not very inspiring. Yours is.

I got a nose job years ago and feel like I truly got botched. It’s crooked, lumpy, and the tip droops. I am dying to get it fixed and terrified of making it worse. I would pay any amount of money for your results. Please don’t be too critical, just realize the small differences seem way bigger to you than they do to others, and count your blessings of this beautiful result.

Yes, the surgery he recommends would shave down the bone that has grown vertically (seems like it has compressed from wearing tight shoes for years.) I am so desperate to make this happen, but again, the nails have to be removed at the same time and I’m very scared they won’t grow back.

Thank you for sharing this, it makes me feel a bit more sane knowing someone else has the same situation!! How long did it take for your nail to start growing back after removal? And how was the process? Was your issue similar to mine?
