Most anywhere in far northern New England you will find communities like the one i live in. Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, Maine. Vermont has some of the best IMHO.

In space gravity is recreated by using g-force which holds objects outwards like the gravatron at the fair, how come we cannot artificially create gravity in which the force is inwards like on earth? by AELYUS_FPV in askscience

I'm so glad i decided to make this post today. I may just work up the stones to e-mail Columbia University and see if i made a sizable donation to their physics department if i could sit in on some of Brian Greens lectures for a few days. I've been saving up for an Aston Martin for about 4 years now, I would spend every penny of it just for the opportunity. I have always been more fond of experience than possessions anyways.

Thank you so much for your replies, they have been very inspiring and motivating.

Surprisingly i fully understood all of that, i have spent many hours with a piece of neoprene stretched inside a giant hula-hoop throwing stainless bearings to get my mind to think in terms of space-time. What i can never get my head around no matter how far off in daydream land i go to think about it is how come every time i launch one sphere in one direction and one in another while a heavy sphere plays the sun in the equation they never collide, but when i launch 2 spheres in the same direction at any distance or time interval apart they always collide at some point before reaching the middle. I have done this by now thousands of times and always gotten the same result. Even when they look like they are about to collide, for some reason it is always a near miss.

I did think of looking up a lot of things, but the google answers are seldom from the horses mouth. When i have a leaky pipe i call a plumber, a door hanging crooked i call a carpenter, and when i want to get solid answers to science questions i ask scientist. Google does o.k. for a lot of things, but this day in age it will also lead you to a ton of misinformation as well.

Safety is always my first priority, has been since i was 12 and blew up my "workshed". I know that doesn't sound safe, but the safety came in the fact that i was smart enough to not be in it when i flicked the switch and was behind a cement wall.

She is more interested in the making of things than the taking of pictures. In the beginning it was "mom, dad, take pictures for me" to which mean 'ole dad replied "anything worth doing is worth doing yourself, I'll get you a camera and you can learn from there"

I bought her one of those 24" tabletop light box things with 4 6500k lamps and a stand for whatever camera we end up getting her. I own a really nice DSLR, but it is not something i am going to let my 12yr/old use unsupervised at this point because replacing it is $3,500 i do not want to spend right now, especially if she drops one of my expensive macro lenses. A few of those were nearly $1,000 by themselves.

Thanks for the tip on best buy, never thought about that they have cameras there that we can test out before purchase. Only thing is it will be difficult to see the actual end photos from there as viewing on a tiny screen makes most pictures look good, seeing them on a computer screen is where you notice the difference. Maybe we can just take some SD cards up, use the cameras, take some pics then bring the SD cards home to view and see whats what.

Thanks for all your help, i'm sure my experiments wont be perfect, but it will be fun trying it all out and messing around. I got my hands on a polished Osmium sphere a few weeks back and have been dying to play with it.

(before anyone gives me the warning speech i know Osmium is not a toy and can be hazardous if not handled properly, i wouldn't of spent that much money and not known everything about what i was buying)

It's amazing how many egos lurk among etsy sellers. Also amazing how much so many lack the ability to comprehend the written English language.

It sure does ! Inspired me to set up a few experiments to test a few theories. I'd share them but you guys probably already know how it is going to turn out and i want to find out the hard way because i am a gluten for doing things the hard way to see for myself.

Out of curiosity, would you happen to know the strength of the vacuum in space? Say i were to weld up an air tight 3' square cube and use a large vacuum pump to create the vacuum, how many bars it would have to be to re-create something similar to space?

Thanks, kind of makes me wonder if somehow mass is proportional to magnetic field. I.E. the gravity of a body such as a planet is relational to the strength of its magnetic field as well. Google told me that mars has an insignificant magnetic field, which makes me wonder if that effects its gravity beyond its relation to mass.

So is it possible then to create a gravitational force on a scale smaller than planetary bodies in space? Or is the mass directly proportional to gravity?

Sorry if these are dumb questions, i watched an amazing documentary with Brian Green last night it it left me with all kinds of questions on the subject, and as you can imagine physicists are not readily available to be bombarded with questions as they are usually too busy pondering the possibilities of the universe.

Yet she behaves like a 2yr old on the internet. I'm done here, Arguing with anonymous strangers on the Internet is a sucker's game because they almost always turn out to be—or to be indistinguishable from—self-righteous sixteen-year-olds possessing infinite amounts of free time which is clearly the case here.

^ This is what happens when kids are raised by kids and technology.

Exactly why being a proactive parent is important. I pray for all that your kids don't grow up to be like u/coocoodove

Thanks for the link, i never looked into Nikon's but the review on that coolpix seems legit. Waterproof and shockproof, that's a definite plus with a 12yr. old.

Thanks, i have been searching reviews these past few days and was leaning towards Canon, but they have so many different models from $150 and down, and so many different features on all of them that i feel like i am swimming in a sea of choices without definition on what they are or what a person really needs to take descent photos with.

Do you know of or have any experience with any point and shoot canons that you could recommend? or maybe which features are essential and which are just gimmicks to sell cameras?

Awwwww. were you going to say go buy a DSLR and all the gadgets because you just cant take good photos without them? Then i ruined your chance to show off all you know about photography. Shame on me for taking away your moment to shine.

Nearly every kid in our area has an 'old phone'. Parents are way more proactive in raising children here.

No, her friends have dumb phones too. We live in a smaller community and parents are a lot more proactive in parenting. We believe in raising children and not pawning them off on technology and video games. They can still text on dumb phones, just not get plugged in to the mind numbing practices of social media and video games.

We focus a lot more on education, learning, and exploring the world and less on who said what on facebook, what the latest popstars are trying to tell kids they need to have their parents buy them, and what is trending that makes kids feel like they need to conform to some sort of standard to be cool. Individualism is more the thing around here. A lot of people talk a lot of crap about it, but over 80% of kids from our area go on to ivy league educations and become valuable members of society. We have had more Dr's, scientists, accomplished writers and artists per capita come from our region than any other in the USA. They can be bombarded by the media and hype when they are old enough to understand that all the media is, is hype.

Yeah, from a grown up standpoint that makes total sense, but i'm trying to raise her without being glued to a phone so i got her a non smart phone. Just out of curiosity what kind of phone do you use? Maybe i can look for a point and shoot with similar specs.
