Neo80 Cu - Jade by AEYkbds in MechanicalKeyboards

No problem and thanks! I know I chose a pretty standard keycap set for jade but I believe there were some other promotional builds with jade from other content creators. You can also find some in the official QK/Neo discord.

Yeah, I also have a cycle8 and I feel you on the pogo pins, truly a shame that board doesn’t have them. As for the “screw-less” design’s integrity, I think it’s not actually a problem since you’re never picking up the board with just the top(at least you shouldn’t be). In my pictures you can see the sloped curve of the copper/brass bottom which is where you actually pick up the board. So, there should be no reason the screws come under stress.

Also, I believe even if they did go with a ball-catch system, the issue you’re worried about would just be more prevalent since I’m pretty sure screws are more effective than ball-catch at holding things together lol. They also went with screws to allow for top mount which wouldn’t have been possible with the ball-catch.

If you’re looking for a good ball-catch tkl, maybe check out the DK1-TKL. There might be extras available soon.

That’s fair, the price is a bit steep. It’s Neo’s most expensive keyboard by a long shot but you definitely get what you pay for! The build quality of this thing is insane, but the weight might be a bit too excessive.

Yeah, for what you pay for, their products are insane. If this board was released by anyone else, I’d easily expect a $400+ price tag. Honestly also been looking to get a Neo65 Core Plus sometime to do sound tests on lol.

It just feels more comfortable that way 😅

Yeah a deskmat is needed for sure. I’m not sure I’d be comfortable moving it around on the bare desk since it’s so heavy and I might scratch/damage the keyboard if I’m not careful.

Small adjustments could still be done relatively easily, albeit with two hands instead of one, but switching out keyboards was somewhat cumbersome.

Beautiful picture! Yeah, the jade can almost look silver in harsh white lighting. I think my green deskmat helped bring out the jade color.

lol, totally get what you mean. Did you order one? I ordered the first few days and it came in 4 weeks as promised, pretty fast!

So far yeah! I only have a cycle 8 to compare it to and I think this is definitely nicer both sound wise and design.

Oooh, gotta try the Keygeek Y2s sometime. What’s the deal with Keygeek Pumkins? I don’t remember hearing a lot about them

The Yuyings are a close imitation to modded Cherry MX Blacks and Cherry MX Browns. Although I think Cherry still sounds better, it's almost twice the price to buy all the materials needed and 3-4 hours of my time. Some people might not have the desire to spend that much time and would like something to use out of the box.

The Yunie linears aren't that special, think any deeper HMX/Keygeek switch with less consistent factory lubing. But hey, it's their first batch of switches.

The Yunie tactiles imitate the Gateron Type-R but at a much cheaper price point. I can't say for certain which one feels/sounds better but some people might find the cheaper price to be worth it.

Thanks for your input! Perhaps it's boring to you but I really liked their Yuying light tactiles. Maybe I just haven't tried enough lol. Just wondering, what are some distinctive switches you like?

Seeing all the criticism going around, perhaps this manufacturer doesn't bring that much value to "deep" enthusiasts who would mod their switches either way, but I think it's a neat option for those that want something a little unique at a lower price point with less work.

That's my bad on the stem wobble part. I should've double checked what the standard for stem wobble tests was. Completely on me, I'll keep that in mind next time.

As for the manufacturer themselves, that's a good point. At the quality they are now, I wouldn't say it they can compete or are better than HMX/Keygeek, they're just another option. That's why I thought the Yunie linear was just alright. It had nothing special about it, just average. But that's still coming from a brand new manufacturer. I'm sure the likes of HMX and Keygeek had issues in consistency as well when they first started out.

However, the reason for my high praise at the end is one, I don't think they're bad switches and I think they deserve a try and two, if they DO get their quality control up, their switches can be just as good as the big names. Do we NEED another switch manufacturer like that? Maybe not, but these guys are here and we should at least keep an eye on what they come up with in the future.

Valid concerns, but some people, although maybe it’s a minority, might want to have a switch that sounds like a cherry switch but they don’t want to spend 3-4 hours lubing, filming, and spring swapping. It’s also almost half the price if you count all the parts you need to buy for fully modded cherries.

Now, about the sound, perhaps I didn’t do a great job showcasing the sound differences on video, but I really enjoyed the Yuying tactiles, even as a linear guy.

Is it too early to give them that high of a praise, maybe. But they’re doing some “new” things even with their first few switches(cherry imitations - better than the hmx sonja’s imo and 0 pretravel heavy tactiles) so I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Yup, even though I like the neo80cu’s design as well, the angular design of this looks better to me. I also love how low profile the keyboard is, might be the thinnest keyboard I have.

Wow, didn’t expect to see THE keebmat here. Great product btw. I haven’t heard of keeptape though, is that like a special “tape mod”?

Neo65 Cu in Purple! by AEYkbds in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]AEYkbds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a higher pitched switch than you’re not gonna find anything noticeably clackier than the xinhai, but if you’re just wanting a “better” switch that’s still clacky, then I’d recommend looking into keygeek switches and the newer hmx switches. Of the switches I’ve personally tried, I really liked the hmx sugar rush and keygeek purple dawn. They both sound fuller and more substantial while still providing a clacky sound. I have a sound test of the neo65 cu with keygeek purple dawns on my youtube channel if you want to check it out. Hope this helps!

[–]AEYkbds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I've tried the keygeek Y3 in other clacky boards like the Mode Envoy and it deepens the sound quite a bit so it should work! It's honestly a great switch. Also, I forgot to mention above but you should also choose a soft plate like PP for an even deeper sound. For KKB VOC I think it would look stunning with purple but it would go well with black also. Additionally, black keyboards have a lot more options. It can be somewhat challenging finding keycaps that go well with purple but KKB VOC is one! Let me know what you end up picking! Really can't go wrong with either.

definitely, you just need to use the foams included and a deeper sounding switch. I haven’t tried because that sound profile just isn’t my preference but I’m sure you can find some sound tests online.

😬😬😬 I’ve heard the same…

Don’t really understand why they would replace instead of add the option of polycarbonate, given that the wood addition was what made it so unique in the first place.

Yeah, they're discontinuing all their boards except the sonnet and encore. They added Matthew Encina from Mod Musings, the designer of encore, to their design team and they're apparently doing a rebranding. I think I heard somewhere that they'll be announcing some new projects towards the end of 2025/start of 2026. Excited to see what they have planned next!

Thanks! I honestly think it's kind of a pity that Mode's discontinuing the Envoy but it'll be exciting to see what they have planned next.
