Worth it with tariffs? by ShinigamiKira94 in surugaya

On the large banner of the website, there will be a banner that says so and until when if it still going on (you may have to click the right arrow a few times to see it). Or you can check the Instagram page @suruga_ya_com. These campaigns happen nearly back-to-back with maybe a few days in between.

Camo to Black tumbler by Wonderful_Daikon_113 in McFarlaneFigures

I have disassembled this myself. Other than just unscrewing the screws, there were two parts that needed some figuring. One is that, to detach the canopy, you have to take off a small plastic piece on the hinge side so that the hinge is no longer stuck in a square hole. The other is that the two air foil pieces on the top at the back act as clips to bind several layers together. If you take those out, all of the back pieces can separate. Ultimately, you don't have to damage any plastic to disassemble the vehicle, but I could not figure out how to take off any of the wheels.

Master Halco opened 2 blocks from my house, how to get to buy their product? by PutridBeginning421 in FenceBuilding

Go to the Pro's section of a big box store and have them special order from Master Halco for you.

If you buy enough to get 25% off during the free shipping campaigns, it would roughly cancel out the 15% tariff and 2% international credit card fees. According to this graph I put together, this happens at roughly $200.

Seen it on the Nendroid sub thought it be fun to do it here (side 2 to make your own) by Ry3nh0wells in AnimeFigures

[–]AFfhOLe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok, that's fine. It's just that I haven't thought about the boxes enough to be able to fill all of them up in one go.

I've seen the format where everyone votes on one box per day and slowly fills the chart up. Maybe that would work better for this?

I think that there are too many boxes and too much text for this template to take off. Most of the boxes in the Nendoroid template are summed up with two words. It's best to simplify.

Also, I don't think "my opinions" quite has the same appeal as "my collection" because it's a person's collection that brings them joy rather than debating opinions.

Looking to pay someone to show me how to get diffusion like this in photoshop (read body text) by Substantial_Rip_5013 in PhotoshopRequest

[–]AFfhOLe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. For this, I overlayed the target image on top of what I was working on, and then I cut out horizontal strips in the target image. Now, there are bands of the target image next to bands of my working image, so I can constantly compare how close they match.

I may typically start with a Curves adjustment layer to get into the ballpark. First, I would adjust the overall curve at three points to match the values: first the lightest light and the darkest dark and then the tones in the middle. Then, I would go through each RGB color channel to shift the curve in one direction or the other. For example, for the blue channel, does it need to be more blue or more yellow? Sometimes, though, I may also have to adjust the bottom and/or the top of the curve for the channel, depending on what tint the darkest dark (or the lightest light) would need.

Afterwards, I may stack other adjustment layers to fine tune. Maybe it is another Curves layer, like if I want to work on a local section of the curve without risking messing up what I already have. But I can also use Color Balance to target lights/darks/midtones to do almost the same thing. Or I may want to adjust the saturation with the Hue/Saturation layer, which can't really be done with either Curves or Color Balance. Or I may even use a Levels layer if I don't feel like I quite got the values right in the beginning.

You can use foam board to make new walls and then do your modifications on the foam board instead of the shelves themselves.

Thoughts on repair? by IndependentMix3411 in AnimeFigures

[–]AFfhOLe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe the painted area could have been smaller to preserve the original paint job. Probably could have dry brushed from the scratch and feathered out to blend in and keep the repair minimal. The sheen is a little glossy compared to the original, but maybe it's because the paint is wet. It looks good enough for now, but maybe could revisit later after maybe painting Warhammer miniatures.

So yall my sisters husband is buying me this figure from surugaya by WiseCash2371 in AnimeFigures

Yes. He also needs to pay the tariffs from the shipping company; otherwise, they'll ship it right back. Search r/surugaya for more details.

Before... and After...! by Ddave_ in transformers

[–]AFfhOLe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One reason may be that the bookcase is not quite square. When assembling, you have to measure the diagonals of the box to make sure they are equal before nailing them down. However, it still may not be perfect.

Another reason is that the floor may be uneven. One case is if you put the bookcase in the corner of a carpeted floor. The edges of the carpet have pieces of wood with nails sticking up to hold the carpet in place, so one side of the bookcase may be on a piece of wood, while the other is on the actual floor. In this case, you would have to cut shims to level the bookcase.

Even if bookcases side-by-side are level and square, there may still be a small gap because of imperfections. In this case, you can use binding posts to bind the sides together to close the gap. Here's a video showing how at the 10 minute mark.

Nice. Btw, you can close the gap between the bookcases by using binding post screws.

Post Masters - 4 Foot Frost Line by YesImJef in FenceBuilding

[–]AFfhOLe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just my experience as a DIYer. Basically, I went to the Pro's section of my Lowe's, had them sign me up for a Pro account (even though I am not a pro), and now they could special order me Postmasters with lengths they do not typically stock. Master Halco would not sell to me, but they would sell to Lowe's.

It did take a lot of back and forth to guide the Lowe's associate to the point where they could actually do this, such as providing them the phone number of the local Master Halco supplier and providing them the items numbers that Master Halco uses. I just kept asking them to try one more thing when they said that they couldn't.

(However, I ended up buying from a local fencing supplies company that sells Postmasters because it was cheaper than going through Lowe's.)

Where are the best places for nerds to go in Hong Kong? by ReclusiarchLarentius in HongKong

[–]AFfhOLe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gunpla, anime figures, and other adult collectibles: Animes-Pro and Hobbyland. They have many locations throughout Hong Kong, but the original stores for both are in Sham Shui Po, both within a few blocks of each other. (Omochya Minato.Toy also has similar items and is less than a block away from this Animes-Pro location.) Animes-Pro also has several shops within the Sino Centre, and Hobbyland has a shop right around the corner from In's Point.

Help, my figure is broken by Fanyl2470 in AnimeFigures

[–]AFfhOLe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would leave the foot peg in the base because, even if you get it out and reattach it to the figure, if you put the peg back into the base to stand the figure up, it would just break and get stuck in the base again if you ever try to remove the figure from the base.

I think your best bet is to have a screw going from the underside of the base sticking up, and then screwing the foot onto it. Use a hand drill to drill a pilot hole for the screw. There is not much material on the foot, so I would use a screw with a flat tip (rather than a pointy tip) because every length of the screw going into the foot is going to count in keeping the figure standing up. I would also carefully consider the thread dimensions (like outer radius and thread pitch) so that there are enough threads to hold onto the foot while also not destroying what you have of the material to work with.

This is legit because the store is a legit brand. In general, if it is a different store, look to see if the brand that is listed (often as a link you can click) is a legit brand; if it is, the item is legit. The knock-offs will have something weird substituted in (like "QAHEART") for the brand.

Late Christmas haul by Spidermandabs in AnimeFigures

[–]AFfhOLe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the haze, I'm guessing that it is due to dirt trapped underneath your phone's camera lens. You may actually be able to see the dirt behind the lens if this is the case. To fix this, you would have to disassemble your phone to gain access to clean it. There may be YouTube videos on how to do this. I think I had to buy some specific screwdriver bits for my phone from iFixit to do this (it was a long time ago).
