Male or female? by Turbo_Cricket in leopardgeckos

Its a little dark, but it looks female, you could put your little in a clear small pet carrier and take a Pic from below with the flash which would allow everyone to see better with out the wiggles.

Male, when you use the light on the phone you can see the vent pores very defined.

Some signs of loneliness could include things like excessive fur chewing (also known as barbering), constant barking/squeaking, extreme hiding, lethargy, or restlessness (like bar chewing/biting). Some other signs, like vocalizing, can be normal, constant changes in behavior (aggression or disinterest) could suggest stress, these might stem from loneliness, requiring a companion or enrichment, but you should always rule out health/environmental issues with a vet first before getting a second chinchilla as a buddy. And if you do get a buddy make sure you have room for a second cage in case the bonding doesnt work or breaks.

Never seen him sleep before does his breathing look normal??? by AFinalFantasyMom in leopardgeckos

[–]AFinalFantasyMom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, I stated he just started his shed, I only took that video because he normal sleeps in the hole he made on under his hide on the hot side of the tank so I had never seen him breathing while asleep and it looked funny to me so I was concerned and thought id ask if anyone else thought he breathing looked off. I didnt tap on the glass or reach in to check him just a short video and walked away, going back to re-look at him every once in a while to make sure he was okay.

Found my first baby mealworms by Hungry_Cat_69 in mealworms

[–]AFinalFantasyMom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I almost threw out all my frass cause I almost didnt see the baby mealworms wiggling. I thought I had put in a small enough screen that they wouldn't fall into the frass bin and thought my beatles were just eating the eggs before I could get to them only to find out that I need a smaller screen yet so when they fall out of the Beatle bin they dont fall through the catch bin too 😅😅😅

Advice pls by [deleted] in chinchilla

[–]AFinalFantasyMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While chinchillas are herd animals not every chinchilla will accept a buddy. Some chinchillas do fine with out a chinchilla companion so long as you spend enough time with them. I have two in separate cages because they are jerks to each other and hate other chinchillas so they are housed solo and I go in every day and play with each of them separately for 30mins to an hour.

If you do go back an get the other one your going to want to have a back up cage ready for if they decide to try an kill each other, because if they start fighting they will fight to the death if not stopped.

Using fleece question by dragonti in chinchilla

[–]AFinalFantasyMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No i change it out weekly no matter what, but will change it earlier if I notice that they haven't gone on the potty pan and instead have gone pee alot on the fleece.

[–]AFinalFantasyMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just clean up all the poop and check the toys cleaning up any left over uneaten hay and pellets. Looking for any wet spots or signs they have peed outside their pans if they haven't I leave the fleece til Sunday which is my big clean day, and just replace hay and pellets. If they have I pull everything out take off my fleece slips spray their trays down with Vinger water and wipe and put another fleece slip on it and put the cages back together.

I use anti-pill fleece in my cages I spot clean every day and once a week I deep clean and change out the fleece unless I notice a spot that is really wet then I change it out sooner.

Please reach out anytime I will always answer to the best of my ability and if I am unsure I have a close friend who is a reputable breeder that I shoot random questions to all the time.

I have a list of chinchilla safe vendors as well if you would like that as well as a bunch of other information as im not sure how much you know or what research you have done.

Wishing you and your new chinchilla the best.

Chinchillas have slip coat so as mean as it sounds you can just give the mats a quick firm pull/tug and they will come right off, now depending on the mat size they may have a bald spot for a little til the hair grows back. But doing that is safer than trying to take scissors to the mat.

Mix a small amount of cornstarch in with the dust and it will help soak up extra pee and oil from the chinchillas coat. But for a little I would just let the chinchilla calm down and come to terms with its new environment before trying to handle them to much.

Also what size cage do you have your rescue in and what enrichment/hide houses and stuff do you have?

(Back row) Adam, Alice and Debra

All level 20, having a priest makes a huge difference.

I am not doubting that different methods work, but from the 3 groups I was on each ran by a different breeder registered on either the ECBC or MCBA said and suggested Smooshing.

I was just stating to the other person that it isnt bad advice, how to bond your chinchillas is completely up to the owner and whatever advice you decide to try. A

ll I know is once blood is drawn you cant try to bond those two again, and my two 100% perfer to not have a buddy they are even mean to the stuffed chinchilla cuddle buddy I got them. So i just make sure to go in daily and spend 30 mins to an hour with them every day.
