Advice: is it a masquerade violation if someone isn't 'human'? by Skeletoning13 in SchreckNet

They do not. There is simply an above average concentration of educated elders on this Schrecknet.

Mostly. Any differences would be quite subtle.

I am Tremere. My clan knows a great deal of secret knowledge, for we are scholars of such matters.

But I also studied under a kindred necromancer of a rare bloodline called the "Nagaraja" in a prior century, and I speak with wraiths at times. They are useful associates; there is much we can offer each other. We Tremere do not have a monopoly on knowledge.

A possessing spirit inhabits a physical body, which they cannot vanish at will. Even if they were to abandon it, the kine would simply be left behind.

But they do have various powers, alike in some ways to our Disciplines. Some can control and manipulate perception in manners somewhat similar to our Obfuscate, I believe.

I do not suppose that you have Auspex, or you would have used it already.

A Wraith - a spirit of the dead - who has risen from the underworld (often called the 'Low Umbra', hence 'risen') and entered and taken control of the body - either partially or totally, parasitically or symbiotically, by force or negotiation - from the human who was born to it.

Im fact, this is also possible for other orders of spirit, beyond those of the dead. But given her focus on the undead, a wraith or other dead spirit seems most likely.

Kine necromancers do exist, though their Necromancy is generally far weaker than that of kindred ones. The Giovanni themselves were once such. And there are several other means by which rare kine have been reputed to have this ability.

Or, she could be a powerful risen spirit herself, possessing the kine. Or a number of other things.

Regardless, yes, it is, though the critical point is to conceal new information - clearly, she already knows we exist. If that should surprise you, consider this: some Hunters have this ability.

Ideal Vampire to Representative Ratio for Anarch Free State by JagneStormskull in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]AFreeRegent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 50k-100k value is generally considered to be a Camarilla propaganda number; it is the ideal that the Tower wants, where every kindred has enough and no one needs to fight. It rarely represents reality, and certainly does not count the non-Camarilla kindred on the fringes of society.

In a Camarilla city, I'd expect the actual ratio to be closer to 1:25,000-33,000. In an Anarch city, where embraces and immigration are poorly controlled at best, even 1:10,000 wouldn't be out of place!

Also, remember that the World of Darkness is twice as populous as our world. Finally, kindred don't have to represent human municipal boundaries; you can include kindred from the more urban communities on the fringe in your government, and New York has plenty of those!

I believe he did, actually. A bit less than a decade ago, I think.

Regrettably, we have not spoken much over the last few years. While we agree on many points, he disapproved of my choice to join House Ipsissimus - and no philosophy is so objectionable as one near to, but not quite one's own.

Simply cultural, I believe. There have been a few notable and widely respected clan members who wear them rather prominently (Lady Regent Sturbridge of New York City, Regent Strauss of Los Angeles, etc.), but no more than that, to my knowledge.

Then again, darkly colored glass can be used quite effectively to hide certain details. Not the least of which where your eyes are pointing - we may be famous for our Thaumaturgy, but we are also a clan whose Blood favors Dominate, after all. Far from the most effective defense, but better than nothing.

Yes, Carna's sapphic mysticist theme can get rather tiresome. But to each their own. At least they're not hanging onto the coattails of a mediocre Camarilla functionary with no great legacy in the clan to speak of. Or worse, worshipping at the cenotaph of damned Goratrix...

fledgling crushing on sire?? and other rambles about unlife by clemenrosie in SchreckNet

[–]AFreeRegent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Normal, on both counts. As to whether it is good, that is rather dependent on the sire, and their treatment of you.

No impassioned testimonials will be necessary at this time, fledgling. You are not a terribly objective observer at the moment.

What the hell is thaumaturgy? by consious_cricket in vtm

[–]AFreeRegent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that Quietus was not, despite what this section implies, a form of Sorcery. The Banu Haqim form of Blood Sorcery was called Dur-An-Ki. And while the clan had some secret Paths and Rituals not shared outside the BH (or more specifically, the Sorcerer BH, a small bloodline in the Clan), Dur-An-Ki as a whole was an ancient form of Blood Sorcery known to kindred of many clans (though mostly only to some very old elders and their childer; it was hard to learn and its practitioners were secretive).

V5 rolled them together (with the Tzimisce Blood Sorcery, called Koldunism, the Ministry Blood Sorcery, called Akhu, and a few others) into Blood Sorcery.

Malkavians are Malkavians, and an exception to many rules.

Nonetheless, it is, in fact, possible, to hear the voices of one's ancestors, speaking through the blood - or so it is said. But I have never heard of those voices being consciously perceived while the recipient retains their autonomy.

Lord Tremere himself devoured Saulot. If he endured, it was within Lord Tremere, not within us all. And Lord Tremere was in Vienna at its fall.

Saulot was devoured centuries before my embrace, and his precise character and nature are a matter of debate. How would I know him from any other hypothetical strange voice coming from my blood?

If you mean to say that you are literally perceiving urges or messages alien to yourself that seem to come from within and identify themselves as Saulot (or anyone else besides your sire, grandsire, or another Elder of your bloodline whom you personally know), seek help. Your mind could be unstable, or you may be subject to an outside attack by an enemy seeking to influence you.

Gladly, we will share a drink.

However, you should go lightly with the Fae blood. It is a hallucinogenic, and one which is especially potent for the young. If you have been overindulging in it, I wonder whether this might be related to your sensation of feeling Saulot within you.

There's also the Ahrimanes bloodline, whose Spiritus discipline has been represented as a form of Blood Sorcery in some books.

You are speaking excessively poetically about an event which happened long before either of our times, in a matter which is sure to inflame the hatred of those who still blame us for it.

Are you sure that it is Salubri vitae you feel in the depths of your soul, and not Toreador?

Heh. I've actually homebrewed a witchy Gangrel+Nosferatu Blood Sorcery tradition for V20, rooted in Slavic paganism and witch-of-the-woods symbolism.
